GOVERNMENT EXPORT
PROMOTION AND TRADE SHOWS.
IS IT WORTH PLAYING?
W
hether you believe in the market’s invisible hand or you’re in favor
of state’s intervention in economy, the mere fact is that nowadays
export is widely subsidized by most governments. The extent and kind of
public aid for the companies that sell goods and provide services abroad
varies much from country to country. Some governments use direct financial incentives to support their exporters, while others prefer tax exemptions or allowances. However, one of the most popular way to stimulate
domestic enterprises which send products overseas is their promotion
during international trade shows and exhibitions. Of course, this promotion is assisted and co-financed by government entities. That is why a
number of entrepreneurs along with business representatives seek an opportunity to participate in state supported events e.g. reputable global
trade fair. Nevertheless, one should ask if the company’s expenses incurred for government co-sponsored trade shows as well as the necessity
of going through all the bureaucracy usually required by public administration is the efficient way of selling and advertising own products on
the global markets. Let’s consider this problem from the perspective of a
small or medium enterprise.
How does it work?
The whole process looks quite similar in most countries. Primarily,
according to economic priorities set by a government, the proper administrative body responsible for the export promotion creates the list
of domestic industries, which obviously sell goods and provide services
abroad, to be supported. Often, this administrative body is the ministry or office of economy or a special state agency founded solely for the
purpose of broadly understood foreign business relations. Secondly, the
same institution prepares another list of international events (trade shows
and missions, exhibitions and sometimes even conferences) considered
important from the point of view of the selected industries. Finally, the
government body again establishes certain criteria that have to be met
by companies operating in the chosen sectors if they wish their promotion to be partially covered by the public funds. Apart from formal matters, such as filling in an application form, providing accurate data from
a company register or a statement on no tax arrears (tax clearance certificate), these criteria frequently refer to the export goals that an enterprise
wants to achieve during the event in which it desires to participate. The
goals need to be realistic and well justified. After a company submitted all
necessary documents, the verification procedure is conducted. When all
conditions are satisfied, the funds may be granted. They appear in a range
of forms. For instance, an entrepreneur obtains some refund of expenses
incurred for the event he attended. The refund varies from the small part
to full amount of expenses and typically is granted past the event. On
the other hand, there may be some direct funds awarded beforehand for
a company which application has been verified and accepted. Of course,
although much less popular, the latter solution is normally preferred by
enterprises. This is a general overview and thus some variations may occur in different states.
The weaknesses...
Trying to obtain public funds for coming to important trade fair,
shows or exhibitions, one has to realize there are several well known obstacles, both official and “psychological”, that have to be overcome or at
least neutralized. The profits exist as well but unfortunately they are less
essential in this context. The items described below aim at providing an
idea of how to evaluate the whole abovementioned procedure. They present the common weaknesses associated with it.
• Obviously, most companies don’t have any control over state’s export priorities or the lists of favored branches and events prepared by
2
government institutions. By and large, they even couldn’t influence all
the formal procedures required when applying for public funds. What
they can decide is if and if so how to fill in the application form and which
additional documents to attach. One has to remember that the forms may
often give impression of being easy to complete but the devil is in details.
A lot of seemingly undemanding applications are rejected for formal reasons. That is why a representative of an applicant enterprise should be
very careful and thorough with his paperwork. It means the bureaucracy
always costs time and money, so this is the first major weakness of applying for export promotion subsidy.
• No doubts, it is worth promoting company’s goods and services
through big international events. On the other hand, designing a strategy from this particular angle may be misleading. The frequent problem
of both medium and smaller enterprises is that they create their plans
focusing too much on the upcoming events, which they won’t attend unless they get some funds. This approach tends to be unrealistic and often
poorly judged as it is shaped in order to impress decision makers, who are
usually civil servants working in state institutions responsible for sharing public money. It is not that bad if these plans are prepared only for
them, meaning, if they are being overoptimistically elaborated purposely
to achieve the aim, which is obtaining the funds. If an entrepreneur is
aware that the figures in his application are just made up, then fine. Regrettably, a lot of business representatives actually believe in these figures and we all know it is a bad idea to think of the reality as it can be
easily adjusted to what would be desired. In short, the process of filling
in the required documents may led to the dangerous phenomenon known
as wishful thinking.
• In reference to the above issue, there are other problems that may
occur after a company’s application is approved. Basically, it sometimes
causes that an enterprise loses the overall viewpoint of what is really important. This is another (apart from wishful thinking) psychological trap.
Winning some public funds for export promotion is a great chance but
it could also raise false hopes. The event a company will be attending
thanks to the public money, no matter whether it is an international trade
show, exhibition or fair, is just the first step. It is not enough to succeed.
It seems obvious. However, preparing a company for this kind of event
and making plans of its promotion there may lead to (barren) illusions of
success. The fact that a company has already obtained the public funds
doesn’t automatically make its business victory certain. There is more to
that. An enterprise may not resist the future temptation of being dependent on the public aid. Most economists and business people agree that
it is hazardous for any private establishment. And last but not least, a
company being busy applying for the public funds and then using them
may overlook other chances for making profits.
... and the strengths
As we stated, going through all the procedures could be also beneficial to some extent. Let’s consider then some bright sides of taking part
in the process of applying for export promotion public aid, particularly
for trade shows. The interesting thing is that depending on the attitude
and followed actions most of weaknesses can be the strengths at the same
time (and vice versa of course). It is all about the deep, honest and reliable consideration of the enterprise’s current position and its future plans
as well as the right choices. These choices should be made reflecting both
sides of the coin. Here we talk about the better side. Here we talk about
advantages.
• The most apparent one is the possibility of getting funds. Promoting through significant international events can be very efficient but costs
serious money. If any part of the total amount is to be refunded, then it is
a perfect opportunity to make use of all that comes with it. Most small and
medium companies wouldn’t afford spending their valuable resources,
that is money, time and employee’s energy, on the only event, even if it
was the most important one in their branch. Obtaining funds allows them
to achieve this goal. (Look also at the excellent article on how to look for
an investor during big trade shows published on Expochart.com - link. It
covers some points that we are discussing in this text and complements it.)
• As a rule, the application form requires to provide basic data about
a company as well as a good reason to participate in the event one wishes
to obtain public funds for. This can be a great opportunity to learn more
about own company and seriously rethink a desired business approach.
We mentioned before that this is sometimes a weakness if one states his
goal unrealistically but this can be the strength as well. Thinking through
thoroughly company’s long and short term goals, plans and priorities is
always a good thing to do.
• There is no better training of how to deal with public institutions
than going through the whole process yourself. For what is worth, this experience is very useful. Entrepreneurs operate within a given law system
in a given state, from time to time they run into authorities and thus the
know-how of at least some public administration procedures seems indispensable. This kind of knowledge is valuable and practical on countless
occasions. Not to mention the fact that using public funds properly once
may help with doing the same thing in the future.
How to gain from it?
Having in mind the strengths and weaknesses described before, let’s
get back to the initial question: is the game worth playing? The first answer that one is inclined to offer is: that depends on various factors. The
second one would be: yes, but there are conditions. These two answers
are not contradictory, moreover, they both are right. If so, the only question remains is how to profit from government export promotion subsidies? Here we have some basic hints or better to say the subsequent steps
that should be performed.
• The event that an entrepreneur decides to apply for ought to
be chosen properly. If there is an official list of events (and often it is)
designed for refund, picking the best one is the real deal. And what is
the best one? It needs to be evaluated according to the company’s current market position and its export and promotional goals, which can be
achieved through the preferred trade show or exhibition. Hence this
decision requires both serious research regarding the available events
(their profiles, attendees, contracts signed, background, history etc.) and
thinking of company’s plans, which was already pointed out. Choosing
the right event is the first step to success in this playground.
• Talking about the list of trade fair or exhibitions usually provided,
there is yet another one which is to be made. Literally, this is the very important list of objectives prepared for the upcoming event. They have to
be real and detailed and at the same time easy to grasp and evaluate. Setting company’s objectives and sticking to them is helpful indeed when it
comes to acting efficiently during the event. Contrary to what most journalists say, there is little space for improvisation on global trade shows
and every major move is strictly planned. This applies to all participants
as well as to event’s organizers.
organizing the whole plan of operation during the event (according to the
objectives) cannot be carried out without a proper training. People who
will prepare and represent the enterprise during the trade show need to
be prepared themselves so they can arrange its performance when the
time comes.
• The logical consequence of the above step is to supervise the execution of those objectives by the selected people. The management here
is the key as even the best people for the job need to be overseen. It
doesn’t mean they have to be controlled all the time but by saying “management” we mean here “assistance, organizing and directing”, which
is the capital point at this stage. The human factor is usually the most
vulnerable one in complex projects and the experience teaches us that
there should always be someone in charge in business related environments. And no doubt that preparing a company for an international trade
show, in this case the one partially or wholly refunded, is a serious and
comprehensive operation.
• Summing up, the enterprise’s appearance after the event would be
the obvious final stage. The most important things here are the effects
and the conclusions. The recommended course of action is a detailed
seminar when the trade show or exhibition is finished and some time
has already passed. However, arranging the main briefing too quickly is
counterproductive as it may take some time to have the results and draws
the significant conclusions. Thus it is better to have one or two smaller
meetings with all the company’s crew involved in the event in order to
review what has hitherto been achieved. This recap will enable the enterprise to evaluate its performance during the show that it was given
public funds for. It will answer the question, whether it was the game
worth a play.

In the modern world of economy, government export promotional
projects are widely practiced. Supporting domestic companies by refund
their presence during international trade shows and exhibitions is the
essential part of this phenomenon. Most entrepreneurs are attracted with
the opportunity of showing their products and services on such events.
Unfortunately, the formal procedures for obtaining the refund for this
kind of promotion are quite strict. That is why sometimes it is not worth
trying. Especially when a lot of other drawbacks, including the real costs
of preparing the application, unrealistic expectations and missing other
opportunities can occur by the way. On the other hand, getting familiar
with the local public administration operations, knowing better own company and setting reasonable goals are advantages of the whole process.
When the funds are being granted to the company, it is necessary to prepare and execute the plan that helps to succeed during this mission. This
plan consists of the factors, such as choosing a proper event, having the
list of objectives and adequate people for carry them out, managing the
team and summarizing the whole performance during the trade show. If
everything is well prepared and thought through, then the chance that it
goes smoothly is pretty high hence it is worth to engage in.
The Editor
• Once the event is picked and the list of objectives set, the natural
order of things would be to assign people to their tasks. And the main task
is to prepare an enterprise to the trade show. Of course in case of smaller companies this is done by the same staff which may simultaneously
conduct other business projects. In larger ones there is often a group of
people, a team, which is responsible for this assignment only. Anyway,

Let’s meet in
Stryków
The attractiveness of the Commune of
Stryków comes from its unique location in
the center of Poland as well as from natural
diversity. All of these creates friendly atmosphere for both tourism and entrepreneurship.
The strategic asset of the Commune of
Stryków is the crossroad of the two most
important Central European highways: A1 (Gdańsk - Vienna) and A2 (Berlin - Moscow), situated within the commune’s area. Moreover, the railway line
Łódź-Łowicz runs through the commune
and there is also a railway cargo side
track nearby located. The proximity of
international airports in Łódź - 25 km
and in Warsaw - 110 km also attracts
investments. Łódź, which is the important
center that gathers a dozen of colleges
and high and technical schools, provides
well qualified staff both management and blue collar. In the commune
itself there is a system of well operating
kindergartens, primary and post-primary
schools (gymnasium).
A new spatial plan designates more
than 1000 hectares for investment
lands, most of which has access to waterworks, sewerage, energy and
gas. The Commune of Stryków for the second time in row has been appointed as a
laureate of the “Land for Medal”
Competition. The perfect logistic location caused that within more than 350
ha of the commune’s area the domestic
and world (from Switzerland, Great
Britain, Germany, Finland, Netherlands, USA and France) leaders of this
sector have located their businesses.
3 industrial parks operate within the
commune’s area. These parks are: the
Segro Logistics Park Stryków, Diamond Business Park Stryków and
Panattoni Park Stryków as well as
the Łódź Special Economic Zone.
Additionally, ProLogis - an industrial real
estate developer - has launched its business
here. The company will build the fourth industrial park in the Commune of Stryków.
The Prologis Park Stryków will ultimately
cover 115 500 square meters designated for
modern warehouses, production halls and
offices, which will be equipped according
to customers’ individual needs. Sandoz -
a pharmaceutical company - finishes the
development of a drug factory in Stryków.
Thanks to this investment the production
capacities of the factory will have been
seriously increased and it will be able to
manufacture even 10 billion pills every
year. General Logistics Systems (GLS) also
develops its logistic center. The investment
covers the construction of objects of the
total space of 4 thousand square meters.
An investor who decides to locate his
business in Stryków can be certain that he
will find a professional assistance here as
well as friendly atmosphere and an area
to develop (literally and metaphorically
speaking). The elements such as passing
the local spatial plan, creating an investor assistance workplace in the local administration, and professional global and
national promotional activities, cause that
the commune has a strong positive image
among investors.
One of the 3 Poland’s best motocross
tracks and the only in the Łódź Voivodeship
is situated in Stryków. Once a year the
round of the International Motocross Polish Championship is organized here. Two times a year the Round
of the Cross Country of the Łódź
Region Championship - one of the
best of such competitions in Poland - takes
place in Stryków as well. Horse amateurs
can make use of countless horse riding
centers and visit the commune riding along
the Łódź Horse Trail. What’s more,
multi-purpose sports courts, the sports and
recreational complex with modern playgrounds, fitness equipment, a skate park
and walking-cycling trail situated over
the Stryków Lake, and the great location
in the Łódź Hills Landscape Park, all
of these encourages active leisure pursuits.
Let’s meet in Stryków.

The major factors that influence the economic development of the Commune of Ustka
are as follows: its location over the Baltic Sea,
health resort zones, developed investments
lands and the proximity of fishing ports in Ustka
and in Rowy. These factors cause that investors
who are looking a place for tourist residences
(pensions) or centers eagerly choose our commune. Moreover, the vicinity of Ustka and
Słupsk causes that the commune is a perfect
location to build a house as it is very close from
here to commute to work or go for big shopping.
Dębina, Rowy – summer holiday communities with a large tourism potential. It is
an ideal starting point for trips. Countless attractive lands surrounded by forests as well as
immediate access to the sea and a lake cause
that a number of investors found here great real
estate for locating summer houses, pensions,
hotels etc.
Niestkowo, Charnowo – inhabited communities situated on the side of a national road.
There is a railway station in Charnowo of the
railway line No. 405 Ustka - Słupsk - Piła.
There is a possibility to locate a gas station
and other service centers by the national road
No. 21, which is the main access road to Ustka
and other coastal communities, on the two
sides of the road.
Taking into account such an attractive location, the demand for real estate in this area
is unsurprisingly very significant. For everyone
14
who w
would like to live or do business here, the
Comm
mune of Ustka offers one of many plots
locate
ed in Niestkowo, on a sheltered glade or
next tto the Ustka – Słupsk road.
Przewłoka is situated on the border with
the to
own of Ustka, near the Ustka – Rowy road
and close
c
to the international cycling trail R-10.
The distance to the sea is approximately 1,5 km.
A beach can be accessed by a prepared walking
- cycling trail.
Thanks to passed local spatial plans, the
Polish Poets and Writers estate is still developing. The process of semi-urbanization will be
even more evident when the project named as
„Ryneczek” is finished. This area is designated
for housing and service buildings and has a
center-creating character, which means connected with the arrangement of central space
within the building complex of the improved
standard, which relates to the quality of architectonic and aesthetic solutions thus having
presentable character. This area will become a
firm construction complex being built according to a valid frontage alignment. An exemplary
solution: services located at the ground floor
and apartments (flats) on higher levels.
The area of „Ryneczek” covers about 4 hectares. The land includes 30 plots. The asking
price is approximately 100 zł/m2 net.
The Commune is in the process of revisions
or elaborating new local spatial plans. We are
open to interesting ideas of the space development.

At present, Poland has 45 official health resorts, which
meet the very strict and precise requirements that are defined in law regulations, and two areas having the health
resort preservation status. Moreover, there is the only sanatorium in Poland operating in the underground former
working pit in Wieliczka. The youngest and at the same
time the only thermal health resort in Poland is Uniejów,
which makes use of therapeutic thermal waters for health
and recreational purposes.
Polish health resorts are located in the most beautiful
regions of our country and are full of countless natural
resources. Both those with the scent of the sea and sunk
in the sun seaside health resorts (Kołobrzeg, Kamień Pomorski, Ustka or Sopot) as well as those stunningly located
lowland resorts (Ciechocinek, Inowrocław, Połczyn-Zdrój
or Nałęczów), and finally picturesquely situated mountain
and foothill’s resorts (Polanica-Zdrój, Duszniki Zdrój, Rymanów, Horyniec Zdrój, Muszyna, Krynica-Zdrój or Iwonicz
Zdrój), all of them guarantee the best possibilities of the
classic health resort treatment, and a lot of unforgettable
impressions and experiences during every day of stay.
The stay in a health resort comes usually with a series of
20
2
0
high level medical treatments, wide range of additional
services and great climate, clean ground, air and water. The
number of people visiting health resorts is increasing systematically. Today, almost everyone knows that the term
“health resort” is associated with the highest quality. It is
also associated with a town (city or village) which favorably
stands out among others. A town which has its ecological
issues solved, which has a very high level of services and
rich offer, which has a perfect recreational and tourism infrastructure.
Modern health resorts are of a multi-functional character.
They offer different services, from typical health resort services to spa, wellness, beauty and medical tourism. Polish
resorts are not only the places of treatment and relaxing,
they are also becoming congress and conference centers
with modern and well equipped objects that offer the full
service in the business tourism sector. A perfect example
here are: Szczawnica health resort with very up-to-date
infrastructure such as conference rooms, which are located in the stylish Guest Mansion; Krynica-Zdrój with its
Economic Forum, being organized for more than 20-years
up to now; Ciechocinek with the International Festival of
Gypsy’s Songs and Culture; Busko-Zdrój with the Krystyna
Jamroz’s International Music Festival; or Muszyna with the
Summer Festival over the Waters.
Health resorts are not only for those who wish to be
cured and improve their health, they are also for people
who would like to retrieve or reclaim their vitality, or just
to feel younger and more attractive. Tourists who prefer an
active holiday are offered by health resorts, depending on
the season, water recreational complexes, mountain trails,
lakes and rivers or perfectly prepared ski and snowboard
slopes as well as ice-rinks. Countless sports and cultural
events, exhibitions, galleries, museums and theatres will
please everyone and bring more to his positive attitude
toward life.
It should be emphasized that Polish health resorts owed
their reputation not only thanks to the huge diversity of
natural treatment values or presence of unique and unusual therapeutic resources, but also thanks to medical, accommodation and catering services provided on the genuinely high level
The Association of Polish Spa Communities (SGU RP) with
the seat in Krynica-Zdrój is a national organization which
gathers communes having a similar character and operating profile, which have health resorts or health resort preservation lands within their area. The association offers a
number of consultations and supports communes in the
process of getting the health resort or health resort preservation land status, if it is possible to create a health resort
within their area. SGU RP has a lot of objectives connected
with the representation of the interests of health resort
communes, both on the national and international level.
However, the most important are the following: protecting
and representing the interests of health resort communes
before government bodies, supporting all the activities undertaken in order to develop Polish health resorts and promoting the health resorts inside the country and abroad.
In its over 20 years of SGU RP activity, the Association has
been defending the interests of health resort communes
for a number of times, and taking care of those interests
during the legislation process as well. For over 20 years the
Association successfully creates a positive image of Polish resorts here and abroad. At the moment, almost every
commune with a health resort within its area is a member
of the Association.

MUSZYNA
IT IS WORTH TO INVEST HERE!
Muszyna is one of the most dynamically developing spa resorts
in Poland. It is also an award-winning municipality in the area of
acquisition and use of funds from the European Union. Through a
combination of natural, historical , and economic and pro business
approach to management, town each year is visited by an increasing number of tourists.
A unique sensory gardens, free outdoor gyms, revitalized resort
area “Zapopradzie”, a new water recreation complex, ice rink, skate
park, modern, multi-sports courts are some of the many examples of projects in recent years. Long-term investment plans of the
municipality establish, among others, revitalization of the market
square, development of water recreation complex, the construction of over 40 km of professional cycling routes along the val-
ley of the Poprad, on both Polish and Slovak side of the river, as
well as the construction of the year-round open indoor ski slope
- the object will be one of its kind in Poland and in this part of
Europe (Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine). Some projects will
be realized in the framework of public-private partnerships. The
fact that Muszyna is a worthy place to invest capital is not only
the large-scale of investments carried out, but also the number of
tourists who visit spa. Despite the ongoing economic crisis in the
last six years the in˫ux of tourists to the spa resort increased by
up to 125%.

INOWROCŁAW. HEALTH RESORT.
Inowrocław is located in central - western part of Poland. It is often called “the city on salt” due to the fact
that it lies on a huge batch of salt. Thanks to the abundance of this resource the health resort was established in
1875. Up to present day the natural resources such as salt
and brine have been used in therapy and the Inowrocław
health resort is considered to be one of the most important health resorts in Poland. The city is visited by more
than 34 thousand patients every year because of the wide
range of health services and their high quality.
The main areas of treatment of the Inowrocław health
resort are the following: circulatory and movement system disorders including serious degenerations, injury and
inflammatory conditions, spinal disorders and respiratory and alimentary system illnesses. The health resorts
in Inowrocław offer a few dozen types of treatment, including massages and baths of different kinds and cryochamber therapy. Apart from healing which is typical for a
health resort, there are prophylactic, rehabilitation, slimming and recreational as well as weekend programs.
In Inowrocław one can also find luxury biological rejuvenation rooms, hotels and pensions, a greenhouse, pump
rooms, including those with their own springs, sports facilities such as tennis courts, a zipping park and swimming
pools, including a thermal one.
So close
Inowrocław is famous for an exceptionally beautiful
spa park, named (after salt) Solanki (the Brines). The
park spreads over an area of 84 ha. Every year more than
100 thousand seedlings are planted here. They are used
later to create flower carpets. The biggest attraction of
the park is a large spa graduation tower. This building is
made of wood and blackthorn and it is in the shape of connected polygons. The graduation tower is over 320 m long
and 9 m high. The water that flows down blackthorn twigs
evaporates from brine, thus creating healing brine spray
around the place. The brine spray is used in prophylactic
and the treatment of blood pressure, respiratory pathways
malfunctions, thyroid and allergic skin disorders. The surroundings of the graduation tower is also used for concerts
and open air events. Papal Gardens, which were founded
in homage to John Paul II, and scented gardens, which
serve both the purpose of being the garden and aromatherapy place, are undoubtedly worth visiting. One should
also walk along the oak alley of honor, where trees have
been planted by the city’s special guests. It is a good idea
to visit a nearby ponds area and the beach as well.
The Brine Park was recognized as one of the seven
wonders of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship and
the best tourism product of the region. The prizes were
also awarded for unusual lighting and the splendid arrangement of leafy areas.

Pieniny mountains
Szczawnica
our town for our Guests
Homole canyon in Jaworki
Szczawnica is situated in the valley of the Grajcarek Brook, which is the right tributary of the Dunajec River, between Pieniny and Radziejowa (in Beskid Sądecki)
mountain ranges. The unique location of the valley causes mild and very unusual
micro-climate. This health resort enchants you with its picturesque landscape, thanks
to the proximity of the Pieniny National Park and the Gorge of Dunajec.
Dolny Park
Recently, Szczawnica has celebrated its 50th anniversary of obtaining city privileges.
As the ancient documents show it had been in existence as a town for six hundreds
years. Currently the town is coming back to its traditions from the 19th century and is
dynamically developing as a health resort and tourist spot. The town charms with the
walking promenade running along Grajcarek, with the revitalized Dietl’s Palace and
Lower Park. In Szczawnica you can feel as in your home, relax, rest and get better.
Dietl’s Square
President of Poland B.Komorowski in Szczawnica
Both citizens and local self-government authorities contribute to the development
of our town. Of course local entrepreneurs as well as owners of tourism infrastructure, such as: Ski Arena in Jaworki, PKL (Cable Cars) with a ski-lift to Palenica,
sanatorium and Spa centers (Budowlani or Solar Spa), Szczawnica Health Resort
(Uzdrowisko Szczawnica S.A.) put a lot of effort too in order to extend the tourism
offer of the town. The cultural offer of Szczawnica will also please everyone. The
Municipal Cultural Center and Cinema Theater “Pieniny” operate in the town. There
are outdoor concerts and festivals as well as folklore events organized here. We have
famous visitors in Szczawnica quite often. For example Ewa Kuklińska, Nigel Kennedy, Marek Raduli and Jarosław Kret. It has been the second time that the president
of Poland himself visited our town. Apart from that, Szczawnica is also about sport
and recreation. There are cycle trails, swimming pools, tourist trails, paragliding and
ski in the Winter.

Supraśl Health Resort - the „PEARL of PODLASIE”.
Supraśl is an unusually attractive corner of
the Podlasie Region and Knyszyńska Forest.
It is proud of its more than 500 years of history, which is also a part of the famous history of Poland.
Situated only 208 km from the center of Warsaw, it is
perfectly connected with the city by the modernized
express road S-8. Moreover, Supraśl is just 10 km distant
from Białystok - the capital of the region.
Countless secluded places with wooden houses, chapels
as well as Catholic and Orthodox churches can only be
found in Supraśl and its vicinity. This area is inhabited by
the Poles, Belarusians, Russians, Tatars, descendants of
Jews and Germans. The believers of Catholicism, Orthodoxy, Judaism or Protestantism live here as well. There
are also exceptional spots here - the favorite ones of the
directors of famous Polish movies and series, for example “The blonde”, “God’s place behind the stove” or “God’s
place in the garden”.
The beautiful Monastery, which is an inseparable part
of the local landscape, with the most modern in Poland
Museum of Icons and countless objects of historical
value representing the 19th century architecture are
located in Supraśl too. Additionally, there is astonishing
and picturesque the valley of the Supraśl River with the
rich fauna and flora of the Knyszyńska Forest. The river is
perfect for organizing canoeing rallies.
Supraśl is one of the youngest Polish health resorts.
Apart from Augustów, it is the only resort in Podlasie.
Modern Supraśl is a charming glade situated at the
heart of the Knyszyńska Forest. Its main strength, which
is crucial for the development of tourism, is nature.
It is the place where time seems to move slower and
the pine forest shapes the microclimate. It is the place
where healthy pine ethereal oils waft and people tired
of modernity relax, listening to singing birds.
Supraśl has had the status of Lowland, Climatic and Peat
Health Resort since the year of 2002.
According to the documented medical properties of the
precious peat and medical properties of the local climate, the following medical directions were set for the
Supraśl Health Resort:
1) higher and lower air-passages illnesses,
2) cardiac illnesses,
3) orthopedic - pathological illnesses,
4) rheumatologic illnesses.
The health resort of Supraśl is unique due to the town
location in the center of the largest dense forest in Poland - the Landscape Park of the Knyszyńska Forest.
We usually go to a forest to pick berries and mushrooms,
but in Supraśl we also go “to get healthy”.
The forests that surround Supraśl create a kind of the
Forest Health Resort Park with marked trails aimed at
movement therapy. These trails are for nordic walking,
cycling, skiing and horse riding.
The Supraśl Health Resort has full tourism infrastructure. There are rooms for approximately 500 visitors
in the „Sanatorium Knieja” and 2 three-stars hotels
”Borowinowy Zdrój” and „Hotel Supraśl”, which have
SPA centers, as well as in 4 other pensions and hostels.
The visitors will find great conditions to enjoy their time
in Supraśl, including a delicious regional cuisine. But
Supraśl is not only about health resorts. It is also about
something for the spirit, about culture. Well known in
Poland and abroad the “Wierszalin Theater” has its seat
here. All of these attractions can be easily achieved as
there are two banks in the town with many ATM machines. There are also optic fiber network connections,
mobile systems coverage and countless hot-spots which
enable the convenient contact with friends, family and
the rest of the world.
We invite to Supraśl for health. We invite to
the Poland’s only „God’s place in Supraśl”.

UNIEJÓW – THERMA
Uniejów is an attractive place picturesquely situated on a Warta’s riverbank in the north-western part of the Łódź region.
Just ten years before Uniejów struggled hard against typical small town’s challenges, such as joblessness and the shortage of large-scale enterprises,
which were followed by net outward migration. However, the possibility of obtaining EU funds, created a real chance for the tourist development of the
Commune. Uniejów resolved to make a use of the most important natural resources of the region - the thermal waters of the temperature of 68 degrees
of Celsjus. Consistent actions of the Commune enabled to create SPA and a recreation zone. Built by the cost of over 200 millions zł, it heavily bases on
therapeutic properties of the thermal waters.
Thanks to the aforementioned natural resources Uniejów was granted the status of the first and only Polish thermal spa in June 2012.
Nowadays, Uniejów is one of the most frequently visited venues in the Łódź region. Having taken wide ranged- profits from thermal waters, the resort
successfully became a place suitable for treatment, regeneration, biological rejuvenation, leisure and relaxation. As a result, the National Geographic
Traveler named it “one of the new seven wonders of Poland” in their survey in 2012.
The health thermal waters of Uniejów have complementary mineral elements, including (among others) sulphur, fluorine, iodine, meta-sillic acid
and radon. They have beneficial effects on skin elasticity, stimulate blood circulation, activate metabolism as well as strengthen immunity. The medical
procedures, which make use of the Uniejów thermal waters, are especially efficient in treatment of the following: rheumatoid disorders, orthopaedicinjuries, cutaneous conditions, neurosis, neuralgia and degenerative disc disease. The visitors of Uniejów Thermal Health Resort also profited from
inhalations, irrigations, rinsing and drinking water cures.
To those who visit this place, we especially recommend the Thermal - Swimming Pool Complex “Termy Uniejów”, which offers baths in the hot therapeutic brine waters. It comprises indoor swimming pools, outdoor swimming pools, biological regeneration facilities, Wellness & Spa as well as a club
and bowling alley. Tourists may also benefit from brine baths, leisure pools, hydro-massages, Jacuzzis, kid pools, water slides, expanded sauna zone,
salt cave and cryo-cabin.
The recreation zone is complemented by fully featured accommodation services and conference centre.
A recently renovated the 14th century Castle of the Archbishops of Gniezno provides visitors suites maintained in the historical style. The most elaborated chambers were named to commemorate the eminent Polish kings: Casimir the Great, Władysław Jagiełło and Casimir Jagiellończyk.
Tourists may as well choose to stay in the The Knight`s Fortress “Hot Springs” which never ceases to attract visitors with its unique medieval atmosphere. Its main attraction, chocolate, rose and beer baths in oaken wash-tubs, can by no means be missed out.
Another remarkable venue is Mill Farmstead, a 19th Century rustic-style museum and hotel complex established in 2012. It offers an original accommodation in the historical mill and manor house as well as handicraft workshops, the exhibition of old carpentry and woodworking tools and horse
carriages. Attending an inn in the cottage visitors familiarize themselves with local dishes prepared according traditional recipes.
In the proximity of the castle, the Artists’ Retreat is situated - an art and cultural centre, where symposia, conferences, workshops and open-airs participated by artists take place. Thus the tourist zone was enriched in accommodation and conference centres, located directly by the picturesque Warta
River.
Apart from the abovementioned attractions, Uniejów offers plenty of facilities (chiefly hotels) established by private entrepreneurs. Visitors are welcomed to stay there for rehabilitation, biological regeneration or to enjoy the pleasures of SPAs.
