Pacific Ring of Fire
(or just The Ring of Fire)
is an area where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic
eruptions occur around the basin of the Pacific Ocean. In a
25,000 mile arc, it is associated with a nearly continuous series
of oceanic trenches, volcanic belts and tectonic plate movements. The Ring of Fire has 452 volcanoes and is home to over
75% of the world’s active and dormant volcanoes.

Volcanoes are an incubator for many of the world’s treasures.
Other gems commonly associated with volcanic origins include
Emerald, Diamond, Garnet, Peridot, and Topaz. Hot-water
(hydrothermal solutions) that emanate from magmas can
crystallize a variety of minerals as the solution moves upward
into cooler environments. Metallic ores containing gold, silver,
tin, lead, zinc, and copper can originate in this way as can
emeralds and other gems. It is no surprise that Mount St.
Helens has proven gold and copper deposits on its flanks.
When lava cools quickly, there is no time for mineral crystals
to form, and result is volcanic obsidian. When this quench is
performed
under controlled lab-conditions it is called “obsidianite.”
The gems featured in this catalog are called Mount St. Helen
Obsidionite. Mount St. Helens Obsidianite is a distant relative
to both Lassenite – obsidian from the vicinity of Lassen Peak,
California, and Fire obsidian - iridescent obsidian from Glass
Buttes, Oregon. It is also related to Hawaiian Olivine, a light
green volcanic stone that can be found on the beaches of
Hawaii and is naturally created from the Hawaiian volcanoes.
Olivine is called “Peridot” when found in gemstone quality.
Interestingly
enough Olivine and Peridot are the only gemstone found in
meteorites making up as much as 50% of a meteorites
mass and have also been detected on the moon and mars.

This striking green stone was created, under conditions of
high heat and pressure, from the pulverized rock which
came from 15 to 20 miles inside the Earth and expelled by
the volcanic eruption from Mount St. Helens, Washington.
This beautiful jewelry looks like emerald and is a deep
green, brilliant, light catching stone - what you would wish
a true Emerald would look like, if you could afford it ! It
is truly stunning! The gemstones that are created today
have come from material blown out of the mountain in
the 1980’s. Some of the richest colors were from the 1981
and mid-80’s eruptions. The color of Emerald Obsidianite
comes from trace elements that are naturally found in the
volcanic rock including chromium, iron and copper that
create the rich emerald color when fused at temperatures
near 2700 F.
After the 1980 eruption Weyerhaeuser Timber Company
undertook a massive recovery effort to salvage its equipment damaged by the eruption. As workers used acetylene
torches to cut apart the twisted metal they noticed the grey
ash was melting and turning a greenish color. The pulverized volcanic rock, rich with silica, aluminum and iron with
traces of chromium and copper was melting into a form of
obsidianite. Using that information, it was only a matter
of time before the first Emerald Obsidianite stones were
created. The resulting emerald colored stone has excellent
refraction (sparkle) and quartz-like durability. This disaster
and chance discovery has left the world with this remarkable legacy of memorable beauty allowing visitors to carry
home a beautiful piece of the volcano as jewelry

1. Terms
Orders can be paid by credit card. Orders under$50.00 will
be assessed a $5.00 service fee. Returns are subject to a 15%
restocking fee, depending on the condition of the item being returned. All prices are quoted in U.S. Dollars and may be
subject to change after the publication of this catalog.
2. Definitions. The following terms are a useful reference as
you peruse our catalog.
Gold Filled– Our 14K gold-filled is 1/20th 14K gold, rolled
and compressed into the base metal plus a final 14K gold
overlay. It contains 20 times as much Karat gold as a “plated”
product.
Rhodium - is the most tarnish resistant member of the
platinum metals group. We offer several products with this
plating. Look for the red “R” located next to the price.
Vermeil - Sterling Silver with a 50 micron Karat gold plating
over it(guaranteed to wear for the life of the product.)
3. Packaging.
All 14KT gold pieces will ship in a velvet box at no charge to
the customer. Velvet boxes may be requested for Sterling Silver; however, a nominal charge will be applied to the bill.
14KT Gold pendants ship on a display cord only. An 18”
yellow gold or white gold rope chain is available as a separate item at $70.00 each. All Sterling Silver and Gold-Filled
pendants will ship with an 18” sterling silver or gold-filled
chain included as part of the purchase price. All Sterling Silver
jewelry ships in a clear Lucite box with pad.
4. Carat Weights. Carat weights as indicated are equivalent to

diamond sizes. When Total Weight (TW) is quoted, this is
the combined weight in a
pair of earrings or pendant with multiple stones. For example: two earrings each with a carat weight of .25 will have
a Total Weight, or TW,of .50.
5. Rings. The rings that we sell are available to us in the sizes
listed in this price list. We are often asked about sizes we do
not offer. Unfortunately we are not equipped to do special
ring sizing for Wholesale. Special order rings, or rings that
are not in stock will have a minimum turnaround
time of four weeks.
