To our Friends, Family and Community:
What a year this has been! Peninsula Volunteers had a banner anniversary, celebrating 60
years of serving the community, creating many memories and highlights, recognizing our
supporters, and most importantly, building the infrastructure needed for another six decades of
growth, programs, and services. We are thankful to all who have helped make Peninsula
Volunteers happen every day.
We are thankful to the Sovereign Order of St. John for their support of our Little House kitchen
remodel. This new kitchen has given us increased capacity resulting in our meal preparation for
7 senior centers and over 60,000 Meals on Wheels. It couldn’t have happened without them. We
have captured our history and program services in a video thanks to Collaboration Factory, an
amazing production team. You can visit the Peninsula Volunteers’ website
(www.peninsulavolunteers.org) to view segments of the video. We salute ABC7 for featuring
Peninsula Volunteers in their ABC7 Salutes series and honoring our organization for our work in
the community We are thankful to all the “Star Light, Star Bright” supporters who so
generously funded our need for two hot/cold equipped trucks to deliver our meals to the various
centers which we serve daily. We are grateful to the City of Menlo Park for issuing a
proclamation for Peninsula Volunteers, recognizing our years of service to the community.
Not only was this Peninsula Volunteers’ 60th Anniversary, but we have been serving the
homebound through our Meals on Wheels program for 30 years! In addition, Rosener House
Adult Day Services turned 30 as well in May 2008. We celebrated with a birthday party for
participants and their families and our supporters.
Peninsula Volunteers Properties now owns Crane Place! We paid off the mortgage in October
2007. Partridge/Kennedy Apartments has an improved courtyard with a grant from Rebuilding
Together Peninsula.
Our focus on outreach has resulted in more people knowing about Peninsula Volunteers and our
programs. We have produced our program brochures in different languages to better serve the
changing demographics in the mid-Peninsula cities. We are reaching more seniors through our
food program. We introduced new events such as The Appraisal Fair and the Children’s
Authors Salon to entice more community participation and further education of our programs.
We are thankful for our Peninsula Volunteers members who worked so hard to raise the funds
needed to support the programs; for our staff who ensured our programs and services are top
quality; for our Heritage Society members who have remembered Peninsula Volunteers in their
estates; for our major donors; and for our community supporters who believe in what we do.
Thank you for helping to make our 60th Anniversary so special. We hope you enjoyed it as much
as we did!

MEALS ON WHEELS
Our Meals on Wheels Program provides hot
nutritious meals to homebound seniors and
adults with disabilities living in South San
Mateo County, ensuring no senior in need goes
without food or human company.
In the Fiscal Year 07-08, we delivered over
60,000 hot, nutritionally balanced meals,
provided over 55 hours of nutrition counseling
and over 1,000 hours of home visits and
assessment to homebound seniors and adults
with disabilities. Additionally, volunteers
spent 6,700 hours visiting and delivering
meals to our Program participants.
The menus are designed by a staff Registered
Dietitian to provide at least one-third of the
daily nutrients required for older adults. Each
meal includes a salad, entrée, starch,
vegetable, bread, dessert and milk. Our meals
are low in sodium and all of our desserts are
sugar free.
Meals on Wheels trained staff drivers not only
deliver a hot meal to our participants, but
more importantly, they offer their concern,
compassion and socialization. For many of our
homebound meal recipients, the Meals on
Wheels drivers and volunteers are the only
people they see each day and their only link
with the outside world.
Our goal at Meals on Wheels is to enrich the
lives of seniors and the disabled adults to
whom we deliver. We are committed to
promoting dignity and independence by
providing nutritious food, social contacts, and
other needed resources so that they can
continue to live in their homes and
communities for as long as safely possible.

ROSENER HOUSE
In May of 2008, Rosener House Adult Day
Services celebrated 30 years of service to the
community. This facility offers structured
therapeutic activities and support services for
older adults living with limitations in a caring
environment that is enjoyable and emotionally
supportive.
Every day there is a wide range of stimulating
activities including art, music, reminiscing, and
entertainment. Physical, occupational, and/or
speech therapies are also available for
participants. A specialized Dementia Services
Program is designed to support and maintain
capabilities.
Families benefit from the respite and are offered
support groups, counseling, and educational
workshops as well. A plan of care is developed for
each participant, and interests and needs of both
participants and their families are considered
when planning activities and services
The goal of the activity program is to enhance the
participants’ quality of life, keeping them active
in the community despite their limitations. One
of the highlights of each year is the Holiday
Boutique, where Peninsula Volunteers members
donate gift items, and help participants choose
among the gifts for their family members. The
gifts are then wrapped by the volunteers and sent
home to delighted family members. Who says
there isn’t a Santa Claus? Holidays, birthdays,
and indeed every day is celebrated at Rosener
House.

During the past year, more families utilized the
Rosener House program than prior years, and we
see this as a trend for the future. Moving
forward, we are developing expanded services to
Peninsula Volunteers, Inc.
LITTLE HOUSE

in one room and a lecture in another.”
In 2009, Little House, The Roslyn G. Morris
Activity Center, will celebrate 60 years of
service to the community. Recognized as the
first suburban senior activity center in the
United States, Little House now opens its
doors to community members of all ages.
Imagination alone limits the educational and
recreational opportunities to be found at Little
House. Along with weekly movies, a daily
lunch program, and lecture series, members
can participate in organized classes, special
events, and a wide variety of games and
hobbies that offer not only stimulating
conversation, but enrichment.
Little House offers its members one central
location to meet their needs, providing
members with information and referrals on
various concerns and arranging appointments
with consultants in the areas of: Estate
Planning, Notary Public, Finance, Health
Insurance Advice, Podiatry, Tax, Acupuncture,
Beauty, and Massage.
In addition, Little House is proud to
collaborate with many well-known Bay Area
institutions, including the Fine Arts Museum
of San Francisco, the Asian Art Museum of
San Francisco, Stanford University, Foothill
Community College, and Sequoia Adult
Education, contributing to our belief that there
is always something to learn.
Peninsula Volunteers Properties, Inc.
Since 1959, Peninsula Volunteers Properties,
Inc. has worked to meet the need for affordable
senior housing in Menlo Park, California.
Currently, we provide 82% of the affordable
senior housing in Menlo Park.
Partridge/Kennedy
Partridge/Kennedy Apartments, which opened
in 1961, houses very low income seniors in 30
units. Partridge/Kennedy offers safe, well
maintained housing at far below market levels.
Special thanks to Rebuilding Together
Peninsula for making Partridge/Kennedy one
of their volunteer projects. Rebuilding
Together Peninsula painted the outside of the
building and re-landscaped the courtyard. The
new courtyard is more eco-friendly with less
water usage and has more sitting areas and
picnic tables.
Crane Place
Crane Place, which opened in 1981, has 94
units for low income seniors. Residents of this
site receive significant financial assistance
from HUD’s Section 8 program. We are
pleased to announce Peninsula Volunteers
Properties and HUD have committed Crane
Place to the Section 8 program for 20 years,
through 2028.
