Wall Systems
Norac designs wall systems designed to meet
the following criteria: quality, flexibility, fire,
sound, weight and ease of installation. Based
on new requirements for improved acoustic
insulation, Norac has developed a series of
acoustic walls, which offer documented sound
reduction properties of up to 54 dB RW.
Ceiling Systems
Norac manufactures and supplies both
suspended and self suspended ceiling
solutions. The ceiling systems are recognized
throughout the industry for both their superior
acoustic properties and ease of installation.
The self-suspended ceiling modules have
been designed to avoid structural borne noise
and to reduce safety risks associated with
loose fire insulation.
Doors
We offer B-rated doors.
Floating Floors
Norac manufactures and supplies floating floor
systems designed for strength, safety, ease of
installation and sound reduction properties.
The floor system is constructed of galvanized
steel cassettes of 3 mm thickness, but is easy
to transport and install.
Furniture
Norac can offer a flexible line of ship’s
furniture for conventional ships and offshore
living quarters.

External walls
Norac is manufacturing specialized internal
and external firewalls on behalf of and in
co-operation with BD Systems, U.K. BD Systems has developed a comprehensive range
of fire/acoustic rated Internal Panelling and
External Cladding systems for the
outfitting and construction of accommodation
units and production/drilling areasThese cover
the full range of “C”, “B”, “A” and “H” class
systems. They have been developed for high
performance and durability in the harshest
of offshore environments.
Wet Units
Building on decades of experience and
specialized competence, Norac offers fully
fitted wet units. The Norac modular wet units
are ideal for marine accommodations from
cruise ships to offshore installations.

HISTORY
MARINE
INTERIOR
SYSTEMS
Aker Panel was established in 1973
and made the products and the brand
name “Aker Panel” well known in the
fast growing Norwegian offshore
market. Since the early 1970ies our
panel systems were recognized as
“Aker Panel”, and by some it still is.
Our Company was established in a fast increasing Norwegian Oil- and
Offshore Market. Our founder, Fred Olsen & Co, was an initiator for the
construction of semisubmersible drilling rigs and built offshore installations at Aker Vindholmen Ship Yard in Arendal, Norway. The need of
fireproof panels cleared the path for establishing a factory for production of marine interior wall panels – Aker Panels.
Since 1978 Arne Borg has been working in
the company, and since 1987 as the managing
director of Aker Panel. In 1982 the company
expanded under the new name Norwegian
Accomodation Systems – NORAC. At that
time our products were introduced to the
international market as NORAC Marine Interior
Systems. In a few years NORAC became a well
recognized manufacturer of interior systems
for commercial vessels and offshore installations, and through the years Arne Borg became
internationally known as Mr. NORAC.
For years, NORAC has delivered accommodation systems to offshore installations on the
Norwegian Continental Shelf, in compliance
with the most exacting rules and regulations
from Norwegian authorities, known among
the world’s strictest classification societies.
This fact together with NORAC’s own strict
quality control measures brought NORAC to a
leading position in an increasingly demanding
international oil- and offshore market.
As a consequence of the “Scandinavian Star”
tragedy in 1990, new safety initiatives were
taken, and NORAC quickly became a leading
supplier of interior systems for cruise ships,
ferries, commercial vessels in addition to
our well established relatives to the Offshore
market.

CONDEEP
DELIVERED
AKER VINDHOLMEN
The first Aker Panels were manufactured
at Aker Vindholmen Ship Yard, but later the
factory was re-established in an industrial
area outside the City Centre of Arendal.
4
Since the early 1990ies NORAC became the
largest supplier of Marine Interior Systems
for cruise and ferries, and the Company has
through the years supplied accommodation
materials to more than 8000 ships worldwide.
In 1991 we had our first large delivery of walls
and ceilings to the Meyer Werft in Germany.
This was the introduction to a long lasting
co-operation very much thanks to our
efficiency and logistics in supplying high
quality parts and products on time. Especially
this is a demand from customers working
at principles of lean manufacturing. NORAC
Marine Interior Systems is recognized as a
preferred supplier who keeps its promises –
always.
NORAC walls and ceilings have always been
manufactured using first-class materials, steel
and rock wool, in compliance with the strictest
regulations of the Petroleum Safety Authority,
which are atop of the hierarchy of regulations
and refers to numerous underlying standards,
among them NORSOK.
Since 1995 NORAC offers turnkey deliveries
of complete interior systems including floating
floors, wet units, carpets, furniture – even
cutlery and sets if wanted. On demand,
NORAC can build up complete mockups of
corridors, meeting rooms, suites, cabins, wet
units and even complete cabins including
bathroom and furniture.
In 2001, Norac established Norac Suzhou in
China. The aim was to cover the Asian market.
BUILDING DOCK
MEYER WERFT
When Norac established its fully-owned
subsidiary UAB Norac in Lithuania in 2006,
the business quickly grew into an efficient
production company, which currently has
approx. 400 employees.
Norac’s long lasting co-operation with Meyer
Werft in Germany is very much thanks to our
efficiency and logistics in supplying high
quality products on time. Photo: Meyer Werft
In 2015 NORAC moves the remainder of
production in Arendal to Lithuania, and
strengthens its administration and sales
organization in Arendal. Norac takes steps to
reinforce competitive ability in a challenging
and demanding market.
Today, NORAC is a leading supplier of interior
systems for cruise ships, ferries, commercial
vessels and offshore installations.
Headquartered in Norway, the company
manufactures and distributes fire-rated walls,
ceiling systems, doors, prefabricated wet units,
floating floors and furniture, making NORAC
a one-stop shop for high-quality, affordable
interior systems for the maritime industry.
NORAC’s present directing manager, Rune
Aarrestad, took over as Arne Borg’s, inheritor,
and he is keeping the Company on a steady
course into the future.
In 2015 NORAC has expanded into other
industrial areas, but our core business is still
Marine Interior Systems.
SCANDINAVIAN STAR
Norway’s Titanic: The “Scandinavian Star”
disaster in 1990 was one of the worst
maritime disasters in Baltic waters, at least
excluding incidents during the world wars.

EXAMPLE OF MODULAR SYSTEM
A modular system is a fully tailor-made system
to avoid adjustments and cutting onboard
vessels. These systems reduce the installation
time for the yard and more importantly reduces

A modular system leaves a smooth finish with
no external profiles, no visible screws/rivets.
It is appreciated just as much for commercial
vessels and offshore rigs as it is for cruise
vessels.

HD OMEGA
Further development of the “Omega” concept
by BD has culminated in the certification of the
HD (Heavy Duty) range of products. A range
that covers all A and H Class firewall requirements for both Internal and External use.
The HD Deck panel system is used as an
“External Roof Deck System” and as an
“Internal Deck System”. The range available
is from A0 to A60.
Although classified as a non-load bearing
system the very nature of a deck requires
structural loading within everyday use and
within a fire situation. The BD A60 rated
deck system was fire tested under load
conditions. From these test results we are able
to design the secondary steel support structure
necessary to achieve project specific load
conditions.
Details
Encapsulated insulation and completely flat
surface eliminates the need for floor- levelling
screeds.
Up to a 30% weight saving can be achieved
over conventional steel deck construction.
Up to 35% saving can be achieved over
conventional deck fabrication and installation
times.
Fully detailed design drawings and structural
calculations are available from BD Systems
Ltd.
System tested under a load of 5 Kn / m2
at maximum of 2200 mm Span.
All weights shown are for the fully installed
system and include all profiles.

WALLS - CLEARSPAN™
H60
As a fully mechanically fixed structure
CLEARSPANTM is a unique Lightweight Blast
& Fire Wall System.
Manufactured from 2 x 50mm thick composite
panels.
The unique design enables the inner and outer
panels to be held in place with a structural
panel joint.
The cavity structure is so designed that in
the event of an explosion, the steel supports
between the joint system will collapse in
a controlled manner reducing the energy
imported to the supporting structure whilst at
the same time maintaining structural integrity
in the face of a Hydrocarbon fire.
Details
• Fully mechanically fixed
• Lightweight
• Significant Blast Loadings can be
achieved without the need for additional
support structures.
• Cavity depth and panel thickness can be
adjusted to meet elevated Blast
requirements.
• Designed to incorporate BD Blast doors,

WALLS - FASTCLAD
REFURNISHING PANELS
FastClad is an extremely fast, clean, easy and
very cost effective means by which to refurbish
existing slightly old and tired looking wall
panel systems on board cruise ships or inside
offshore accommodation modules.
The area to be refurbished is quickly enhanced
when the FastClad sheets are adhered directly
on top of the existing wall lining and partition
panels using a specific IMO approved fire
retardant adhesive system. FastClad cover
sheets are supplied as standard at 600mm
width but are cut to project required length
and with a crush fold bend to both long edges
ensure a close, tight and seamless fit between
each sheet applied.
Preformed internal and external angle trims are
used when cut edges need to be obscured.
BD Systems (Europe) Ltd only use approved
contractors for all such installations and we
will be happy to recommend such companies
to you upon request.

Ceiling can be fitted - and refitted as necessary
- swiftly and easily with the panels clipping
into a carrier system and then secured in place
by screws. Again, to facilitate access, each
individual panel can be easily removed.
The system fully satisfies all current fire
regulations and, although very light, has very
good sound control properties. It has been
used with success on marine vessels, oil rigs
and other offshore installations.
The flexibility of the ceiling system can easily
cope with a variety of lighting and ventilation
systems.

TILES P-31
This type of ceiling is often used in public
areas. Norac delivered often the tiles integrated
with special beams, domes, etc.
The tile system is very easy to install, using
a coventional T-rail suspension system. Each
tile is thus easily removed to allow quick
access to the ceiling void. The system is only
for areas with C-class.
Tiles are available in the following sizes:
300x300 mm, 600x600 mm and 300x600 mm.
Colour
Tiles are normally finished in white, but other
colour finishes can be supplied.
Installation
The tiles are held in place by rolled steel grid
sections providing a very rigid structure.

Fire Certificates/descriptions
All products contained in this catalogue
have been tested according to the latest
international regulations and test procedures,
and are approved by the worlds main
certification bodies. The energy generated from
the test fire in the heating chamber follows a
standardized temperature-time curve. B15 fire
class proves that the temperature at the cold
side does not exceed the standardised limits
for a period of 15 minutes. The procedure for
other fire classes follows the same procedure.
• B-class
Systems* are exposed to the fire for 30
minutes and must comply with stability and
integrity requirements within this time.
• A-class
Systems* are exposed to the fire for 60
minutes and must comply with stability and
integrity requirements within this time.
• H-class
Systems* are exposed to a hydro carbon fire
for 2 hours. The test procedure is similar to the
A-class test, but the rate of temperature rise is
far more rapid and to higher temperature level.
*All systems shall be constructed of approved
non-combustible materials
