As we open our 2013 Future Professionals Expo, I
would like to personally welcome all of our Future
Professionals, Special Industry Guests, Alumni and Staff
to beautiful Hershey, Pennsylvania.
In the year since our last event, thousands of Empire
students have graduated school, and realized lifelong dreams of becoming licensed cosmetologists.
As we work to educate the next generation of beauty
professionals, we stand true to our core values and core
purpose: To create opportunities for people to improve
their lives. We are proud to say our Future Professionals
Expo supports that goal through competition, advanced
education and networking.
A few special announcements, in particular, you don’t
want to miss. I am looking forward to our electrifying
competition this year as our committee has added
a brand new category. The Progressive Total Look
competition will test competitors overall abilities in hair,
makeup and style. This will be a LIVE model competition
in which we will see the work of competitors displayed in
true-to-life form. Fellow students, our vendors and our
judges are sure to love this challenging competition.
Also, our trade show floor and Network Café is once
again filled to the brim with beauty vendors and
employers showcasing the latest tools, products
and career opportunities available to future beauty
professionals. And don’t forget about the amazing
advanced education you will receive during your time
with us. We have some of the top platform artists in the

country with us this year. TV personality and industry icon
Nick Arrojo is with us, bringing the latest trends from his
world-famous salon in NYC, along with Rafe Hardy with
Sexy Hair bringing us the latest styles and techniques
from sunny California. I truly hope you all take advantage
of the various presentations and workshops that are
designed to offer you the experience of a lifetime.
To our Competitors, I couldn’t be more proud of the
dedication and commitment you are showing to your
craft. All of you are representing your school at this
national student event. Be proud of what you have
accomplished so far. We know you are supported by a
backbone of friends, family, educators, classmates and

My Contribution
As a Funeral Director I have as many self-doubts about the value of my contribution to society as anyone.
How can I help this in an age when every tradition, every human motive, every manner of doing anything is
constantly under fire? I can say this, however. Every day I deal with people whose defenses are down, and
the ritual of the Funeral Service seems to serve their vital needs. When one of them clasps my hand, I can
be sure that there is no pretense here. I have made some small contribution in alleviating the bereavement
of another human being.

The Long Hair Evening Design competition is perhaps one of the most elegant and dramatic
categories of the various hair competitions, featuring intricate up-dos, stylish chignons and
variations on all of the classic and modern styles that the students have learned during their
hands-on training. The students incorporate their innovative designs on their mannequins. The
students must complete their incredible creations in exactly one hour — from start to finish.

The Artistic Braided Design Style competitors have complete artistic freedom to create various
types of meticulous and elaborate braiding styles on their CLiC mannequins. Within the allotted
one hour time frame, competitiors must intricately weave and braid some of the most beautiful and
trendiest styles on their mannequins to create a harmonious and original design. The application of
hair color and ornamentation may be used to enhance the overall competitive style.

As Regional Education Manager and Sexy Hair Master Artist, Missy Croquart comes from a

working on her Bachelor’s degree in business management and marketing.

As the Sexy Hair’s Artistic Creative Director, Hardy is responsible for the company’s various
hair concepts and looks. He is also the company’s premier international ambassador, traveling
around the world to educate stylists about Sexy Hair and company Founder Michael O’Rourke’s
signature system of cutting, Structure in Motion. When home at Sexy Hair’s headquarters in Los
Angeles, Hardy is an in-demand instructor at the company’s learning facility, Michael O’Rourke’s

Anita Zappacosta, National Director of Sales and Marketing, holds 25 years of vast experience in
the beauty industry. She's worked with leading beauty manufacturers, and helped position and
grow their brands. Anita is a medi-spa esthetician, specializing in makeup application, nail and
foot care product development, and sales of all products. She also owns her own nail salon and
massage therapy business. Anita holds licences in both nail care and esthetics and certification
in massage therapy.

Network Café.
The Network Café is a salon and industry
networking venue where Future Professional attendees have
the opportunity to meet with the hiring managers of top
salons and learn about exciting advanced and continuing
education opportunities and industry related organizations.
