School Review Report Presentation
As mentioned in last week’s Newsletter, our School Review Report has been finalised; with very pleasing
findings for our school. In order to share this news with our community, I invite you to join us for a
presentation from our school reviewer, Leslie Tulloch, before our School Council Meeting tonight, Thursday 17 September in the library; commencing at 7.30pm. Leslie will be presenting the findings from our
review to our community. A shorter School Council Meeting will follow and you are also invited to stay for
that as well and share in the success of our school.
Planning Week
At Parkhill, all of our staff work collaboratively in Professional Learning Teams (PLTs) to provide support
and maintain collective responsibility for all students in their level. To support this work,we have a special planning week towards the end of each term where all teachers are released from their teaching duties for one day. This provides time for teachers to further analyse student progress and complete preliminary planning for the term to come. During the school holidays all teachers complete their term level
planning which is then used as the foundation for weekly and daily planning throughout the term. This
ensures that our teachers are prepared well in advance for another fantastic term of learning.
Planning for 2016
As I write this, we are eagerly awaiting the release of the Victorian Labor State Government’s indicative
‘Student Resource Package’ (SRP) for 2016. The SRP is the money allocated to schools annually to pay for
everything from staff employment and programs to cleaning the carpets. We have been assured that all
schools will be better off under new funding arrangements which will help Victoria become the
‘Education State’. I am hopeful that we will receive positive news which will provide the financial support we desperately need to continue to enhance the excellent work of Parkhill’s teachers, education support staff and parent helpers.
This week has also seen the announcement from Minister Merlino and the Premier, Daniel Andrews regarding the direction of the Victorian Education system. This included a regional restructure (including an
additional 150 Regional support staff) which has been consulted on for some time, as well as clarity over
the new curriculum.
2016 Enrolments:
Classes for 2016 are filling fast! There is a great demand for a place at Parkhill and I ask you to help us in
our planning to let us know your movements for 2016. If a change for your family is anticipated in 2016,
please let us know so that we can plan accordingly. With this in mind, please ensure siblings are enrolled
and that any family or friends who may be interested in hearing more about a Parkhill education have
my details so they can contact me to arrange a personalised tour. [email protected]
Spring and Sunsmart:
Exposure to sunlight is the main cause of melanoma and a cause of skin cancer. Acknowledging Australia
has the world’s highest incidence of melanoma our School Council policy is for students to be sunsmart
from the start of spring. As a Sunsmart school we expect our students to wear a hat between September
1st and April 30th each year; having reminded children to dust off their Sunsmart school hats so they are
ready to be worn from Monday onwards to protect against UV and the sun.
Winter Music Soiree:
Congratulations to all our musicians who played at our Winter Soiree on Tuesday evening. It is wonderful
to see our students’ progress over the course of the year as they develop their musical skills. Thanks to
both Marvin and Darcy who did a wonderful job MC’ing the evening. A reminder that our soiree program
is designed for Parkhill students who learn an instrument at Parkhill. Students who learn an intrument
outside Parkhill are most welcome to perform at one of our Friday assemblies.

On behalf of all the staff we would like to wish all students and families a wonderful holiday. It has been
a great Term 3 at Parkhill and we look forward to what Term 4 will bring.
We welcome the community using our facilities during the holiday break as it is great seeing children
and families being active and playing outdoors, however, if you see anyone acting suspiciously or inappropriately around the school grounds please contact the Mount Waverley Police Station on 9888 3755.
We look forward to seeing you all back at school on Monday 5 October.
