A letter from the Chair
These are exciting times at Finger Lakes Health and
the Finger Lakes Health Foundation.
We have recently kicked off a renovation project and supporting community capital campaign
at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital. The Cornerstone of Care Campaign seeks to raise $1.5
million for the community in support of the project at Soldiers & Sailors that will relocate
Cardiac Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy to a new center on the ground floor, move the
Peppermint Parlor to the ground floor, add a new main entrance, and expand the Emergency
Department. This project will greatly enhance that patient experience and will provide easy access

to many outpatient services that are growing to meet the needs of our community. This work has
already begun and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009.
In Geneva, the new Finger Lakes Health College of Nursing will admit its first class in the Fall
of 2008. In collaboration with Keuka College, Finger Lakes Health College of Nursing, located
Finger Lakes Health Foundation
on the campus of Geneva General Hospital, will offer a full time evening/weekend program that

and ending in May. At the end of the two-year program, graduates will be awarded an Associate
Degree in Applied Science with a major in nursing by the College of Nursing. Licensed Practical
Nurses (LPN) may apply to the College of Nursing for advanced standing and can complete the
program within three semesters.
As with most new initiatives, these projects rely on community support to become a reality. As
you review this edition of our newsletter you will see that we have a strong base of loyal donors
and thank each and every one of you who continue to invest in Finger Lakes Health and our
community and we encourage everyone to support us in our mission.
Sincerely,

Peppermint Parlor Funding
The Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has committed
$30,000 over the next three years to support the construction
of the new Peppermint Parlor in the enhanced lobby of S&S.
To date, individual volunteers and auxiliary members have already
personally pledged an additional $7,660 toward this effort.
The original Peppermint Parlor, which opened in 1967, and
is named for the red and white striped aprons that were worn by
volunteers, celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2007.
The current Parlor is located on the 1st floor of Soldiers &
Sailors, and will move to the ground floor as part of the renovation,
making it accessible to an increased number of visitors.
Construction of the new Peppermint parlor will take place
in Phase 2 of the project.

Thank you Wyckoff Family Foundation
In 2007 the Geneva General Childcare Center received a grant in

partner with local early childhood education agencies to combat
childhood obesity in the Geneva community.
On October 8, 2007 the Geneva School District Universal

teachers: “Moving With a Purpose – Physical Activities for
Preschoolers” held at the Ramada Geneva Lakefront.
Renowned speaker, Diane Craft, Ph.D, taught early childhood
educators how to create a curriculum of movement activities for
the 3 – 5 year olds in their classrooms. By attending the workshop
participants learned how much and what kind of physical activity
preschoolers need as well as specific activities for building a
movement curriculum. Each participant received a copy of
both Diane Craft’s books.
