From the 2001 pilot experience to the insertment in Forlì’ didactics In October 2001, with the creation of Perting Ltd Simulated Enterprise (S.E.), was launched, on an experimental basis, in connection of the course of Business Management (Prof. Massimo Bianchi), the activity of Simulated Enterprise Laboratory managed by Prof. Daniele Gualdi and with the support of the Fondazione Cassa dei Risparmi of Forli. Perting Ltd, operating in the field of organizational consulting, network and merchandising of ICT products, was the first unit of Simulated Enterprise certified1, established by an Italian University (Fig. 1). In 2004 the Simulated Enterprise was included as a practical activity in Accountancy course (Prof. Riccardo Silvi) and, in the same year, the Laboratory of Forlì participated, as distance support center for entrepreneurial initiatives, to its first international project of “Formation and technical assistance for the development of SME in Durazzo harbor district”, financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – General Directorate for the Economical Cooperation. During the project was created in Shkoder (Albania) the first Simulated Unit supported by Perting: the KK Personal Robe working in fashion business. Massimo Bianchi, promotore dell'esperienza - comincia a dare i propri frutti". Quest'ultima tappa dell'avventura newyorkese assume un significato particolare in quanto la Ditta Trevi è fra i sostenitori del Master in Creazione e Sviluppo di Piccole e Medie Imprese Innovative (CESPEM), iniziativa che ha luogo sempre a Forlì, anch'essa utilizzando la simulazione d'impresa come strumento didattico d'avanguardia. http://www.magazine.unibo.it/Magazine/Attualita/2007/04/13/Gli_studenti_di_Simulimpresa_sul_podio.htm Unibo Magazine 13th April 2007 Students of Simulated Enterprise on the podium of Global Business Challenge in New York4 From Perting ltd to New York: The team of students from the Forli’s Faculty of Economics wins third place in the international competition of Simulated Enterprise. From 27th to 30 March 2007 it was held, at the New York Virtual Enterprises Trade Fair, the Global Business Challenge, an international competition sponsored by Merrill Lynch with the participation of nine teams from around the world, selected from more than four thousand units of Simulated Enterprises activated by Universities and high schools. Representing Italy in the competition was Forli’s Simulated Enterprise team of Bologna University, accompanied by prof. Daniele Gualdi and Dr. Laura Tampieri. Without doubt, the Faculty of Economics’ team has shown prepared for this occasion gaining at the end of the competition a significant third place. The first experience of virtual enterprise in the Italian University was founded in Forlì: it was named Perting ltd and was born in 2001-2002 A.Y. into the Faculty of Economics Simulated Enterprise Laboratory. 4 Translation by Simona Rusticali, Serinar 33 Perting ltd reproduces through and through a concrete company operating in the field of consultancy services and technology products, and has been managed over the years by more than two hundred students, who could then acquire, through practical training, knowledge and pioneering professionalism in the field of virtual business. This type of project is becoming more and more significant, just think how is important today the development of virtual reality in a global initiative as Second Life. “The investment made in this educational innovation- how explains the promoter of this experience, prof. Massimo Bianchi- is beginning to achieve important results”. The birth of Perting ltd has helped to start some organizational researches about the network management and experimental management: these activities have enabled the acquisition by students of practical and concrete knowledge. This training was an excellent preparation for a great international challenge as the Global Business Challenge. In the New York competition, the Forli’s team faced a case prepared by Harvard University: they had to identify the crisis’ elements of a high tech sector company and they had to propose some competitive development strategies. Alma Mater Students, distinguishing themselves for team work and analysis presentation skills, have managed to emerge in the challenge to reach the third place. The Forli’s delegation travel to New York was than concluded with a visit to the Ground Zero Site, in which the Trevi Company operates, engaged in building the foundations of the new center that will rise on the rubbles of the Twin Towers. The last stage of New York adventure has a special meaning because the Trevi Company is among the supporters of the Master in Creation and Development of Innovative Small and Medium Business (CESPEM), which takes place in Forlì, also using the Simulated Enterprise Methology as a learning tool. 34 35 36 37 38 References Gualdi D.
