SANFRANCISCONEWSNOVEMBER15,2009 VI’S CORNER: "DILLINGHAM" SAN FRANCISCO—My formal name is "Dillingham," but you can feel free to call me Dilly because I'm really a down to earth kind of guy! I'm a Standard Poodle mix, and you know how smart poodles are, don't you? In case you don't, they're known to be one of most intelligent breeds of dogs! I hate to keep bragging, but I can't think of one single negative thing that anyone has said about me. I'm not aggressive in any way, don't guard my food, toys or bed, have no separation anxiety, and I'm housetrained. I love everyone, including other dogs, cats and children. So I would love to be part of a family again. In my three years of life I've never been mistreated, and I wasn't abandoned. I have known only love. So, why am I here waiting for another family to adopt me? I'll tell you. It was very hard for my family to give me up, but because of financial reasons, they weren't able to move into the house with a yard as they had planned. So, having three children and me in a small apartment, just didn't seem fair, as I'm a big boy and needed more room and more exercise than they were able to give me. Being wonderful, unselfish people, they didn't want to deprive me of a better life, and tearfully gave me up. So, here I am waiting for that better life to begin. I hope that you will call to see me soon! Some Poodle quotes for you to enjoy: "Love is the emotion that a woman feels always for a poodle dog and sometimes for a man." - By Vi Logan George Jean Nathan; "There's nothing so similar to one poodle dog as another poodle dog, and that goes for women, too." - Pablo Picasso; "People forget that Omar Bradley went all around World War II with a big black poodle named Beau. And everybody associates Winston Churchill with the bulldog because he looked like a bulldog. But the truth is Winston Churchill never owned a bulldog. He owned miniature poodles and they were all called Rufus." Stanley Coren Please call to see Dilly! But if he doesn't fit your life style, call or check our website at foafla.petfinder.com to see all of our many wonderful dogs and cats that are waiting for loving homes. Since then, prosecutors have reached a deal with Lincecum’s lawyer to drop drug charges. The 25-year-old pitcher was speeding at 74 mph in a 60 mph zone in Hazel Dell, Wash. when he was pulled over by a Washington State Patrol trooper. As Lincecum rolled down his window, the officer smelled marijuana. Lincecum complied with the officer’s request to hand over the marijuana and his pipe, which he stashed in his center console. Lincecum was in possession of about 3.3 grams, which is a small amount compared to the 40-gram maximum one can have before it By Bridget Kwok becomes a more severe penalty. The star pitcher still faces a $122 fine for the speeding citation and a $250 fine for possessing a marijuana pipe—after his lawyer reached a deal with the prosecutor. It is not uncommon for prosecutors to drop drug charges for firsttime offenders. MUNI AGENT ARRESTED FOR FIGHTING TEENAGER SAN FRANCISCO—On November 5, a 59-year-old San Francisco Municipal Railway agent was arrested after physically fighting a 17year-old girl, with whom the agent reportedly engaged in a dispute over the cost of a railway ticket. The incident occurred during the afternoon, when the girl and her sister asked Muni agent Kenneth Valentine for a youth ticket, which costs $0.75. An adult ticket costs $2. The teen reportedly had nothing to verify her actual age, and may have appeared to be older, according to police. The agent allegedly punched the girl during the altercation. Valentine was arrested on suspicion of felony and misdemeanor assault. Both he and the girl were hospitalized for By Bridget Kwok minor injuries. Brian Buckelew, of the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, told The San Francisco News that it is unclear who started the fight; however, witnesses are being sought for questioning, and a possible video recording may reveal more information. "It is unclear whether a video actually exists or not," Buckelew reports to The San Francisco News, "but if there is one, it is in possession of BART, and they are looking to recover it to reveal more evidence." Buckelew told The San Francisco News that the girl's sister is 22 years of age; however, her identity does not appear to be releasable at the moment. "As of now, the Muni agent [Valentine] is out on bail, so he has no future court dates," Buckelew informs The San Francisco News. "I'm not sure if the girl has been released from the hospital or how she is doing, but I'm sure her injuries are not serious." No further information regarding the case is available at the moment. PAGETWO News BIG RIG DRIVER PLUNGES 200 FEET OFF OF BAY BRIDGE SANFRANCISCONEWSNOVEMBER15,2009 SAN FRANCISCO—On November 9, the driver of a big rig plunged 200 feet to his death after speeding on the S-Curve of the westbound San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, according to authorities. The truck was carrying a load of pears and traveling at a rate of approximately 50 mph, which is 10 mph over the speed limit. The motorist reportedly struck the 36inch high guardrail as he lost control of his vehicle, going over and landing on Yerba Island 200 feet from the span. The man has been identified as a Hayward resident who had been employed at a trucking company in San Ramon; however, his name is not being released. It is believed that it was the driver's reckless speeding rather than the S-curve that caused his death. Lanes were shut down after the crash at about 3:30 a.m., temporarily disrupting the morning commute. The S-curve is being used as a detour until crews have completed construction on the bridge that will be resistant to earthquakes. Transportation agents have improved traction on the new addi- By Rosana Clarkson it is recommended that motorists slow to rates of 35 mph on the curve. POLICE SEEK SUSPECTS IN CONNECTION TO BEATING DEATH VICTIM SAN FRANCISCO—On November 6, a 39-year-old man was discovered beaten to death in San Francisco's Excelsior District. The San Francisco Medical Examiner has identified the victim as Alfonso Rodriguez of San Mateo. The beating occurred during the By Rosana Clarkson evening near Munich and Cordova streets, where officers responded to reports of a physical assault. Arriving police discovered the victim sitting in the driver's seat of a vehicle, suffering from critical injuries. Rodriguez was taken to a hospital, where he died at approxi- mately 10:45 p.m. After locating the victim, investigators immediately traversed the neighborhood and asked questions of possible tipsters. No weapons appeared to have been used in the assault, and no suspects were identified; however, the beating appears to have no gang involvement, according to police. Anyone with information regarding this assault is urged to contact the San Francisco Police Department at 415-575-4444. Callers may remain anonymous. WOMAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO MAN'S DEATH IN HOTEL SAN FRANCISCO—On November 9, a 34-year-old woman was arrested in connection to the death of a man at 106 6th Street, as reported by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. The suspect, identified as Kira Roeche, is believed to be involved in the killing of 42-year-old Cameron Miller, who died in his room at the Henry Hotel. Brian Buckelew, a spokesman for the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, told The San Francisco News that it is currently believed that Roeche used two objects to attack Miller. "She [Roeche] used a vodka bottle and a clock to attack the victim." When asked by The San Francisco News what relation, if any, Roeche had to victim Miller, Buckelew stated, "They lived together for the past six months, which is all I was able to glean from the police report." Buckelew said that it is unclear whether Roeche and Miller were a couple or not. When asked by The San Francisco News if Roeche has any pending court dates, Buckelew said, "Roeche has a court date at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow, [November 12] at the San Francisco Superior Court for her arraignment hearing. She faces charges of one count of murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. One count is for the attack with the clock and the other is for the attack with the bottle." According to Buckelew, Roueche, a San Francisco resident, reported Miller unconscious in his South of Market apartment on the evening of November 8. After the defendant allegedly called police at about 8 p.m., arriving officers discovered Miller dead. Homicide inspectors later interviewed Roueche, who they later determined to be "involved in the death." Sergeant Wilfred Williams, of the San Francisco Police Department, told The San Francisco News that Roueche was the person who had made the initial phone call to police to report that Miller was unconscious in his hotel room. "Officers responded to the call, which was made after the paramedics already arrived," Williams told The San Francisco News, "at which point they notified the Medical Examiner's Office, who then determined the death to be suspicious in nature, at which point inspectors were notified." Williams reports that he has no information regarding why Roeche is the prime suspect in the incident, however he confirmed that she was determined to be involved in Miller's death. Some people go to gyms and hire personal trainers, but all I need to do is follow behind her, while being in awe of all the places she manages to go to and how respected and welcomed the “Y&R” star is. When Kate is not working on “The Young and the Restless,” or flying the friendly skies as a flight attendant for a major airline, which she’s done for decades, she can be seen at various soup kitchens and shelters downtown in Los Angeles helping the homeless and the needy. “I feel as though I need to give back,” Linder, the beautiful actress told Canyon News recently. Though finding her at two events last week, it was fun to see she’s still looking great and enjoying life. Linder joined Nancy Cartwright, the iconic voice of Bart Simpson, when Cartwright hosted her Fourth Annual Monte Carlo Night. Cartwright is a board member of PALS [Police Activities League Supporters], and she opened up her beautiful home for the fundraiser for the fourth year in a row. The funds she’s already raised helped build a new youth center, the Councilman Greig Smith LAPD Devonshire PALS Youth Center. All the profits from this year’s event went to funding materials and programs for PAGETHREE By Tommy Garrett the center, which provides after school activities and motivational opportunities for potentially ‘at risk’ youth. If that wasn’t enough. Soon after Cartwright’s event, Linder was seen at the Total Woman Gym and Day Spa’s 44th Anniversary party in Woodland Hills, where many celebrities packed the red carpet and posed for photographers. HOLLYWOOD—Most reporters have written, and subsequently regretted, things they have written in the past. Reporters sometimes forget that when you write something, you’re not just writing to one person you’re potentially writing to thousands or more people. What you write is read, sometimes not only by the subject, but also by people close to the party, who will in some way or another let them know or pass the word around. The journalist sometimes forgets to be sensitive, and the result is a pure and complete lack of judgment. Defaming someone in the public realm is dangerous; however, it is even more detrimental to a journalist. Certainly no journalist wants to be known or remembered for a lapse in judgment. Just last month, as the Jan Moir saga continued (regarding the comments made in her newspaper column which managed to circulate controversy worldwide), it is evident that what is written could definitely create chaos. The columnist, who writes for the Daily Mail, became probably the first journalist to receive a whopping By Rose Quintiliano 21,000 complaints to the Press Complaints Commission. The comments the journalist wrote regarding the death of Stephen Gately caused a wave of outrage. While the journalist, has written an apologetic column after the controversy, only time will tell if she will have a following. While reporting the news accurately and ground-truth fact finding go hand-in-hand, sometimes the truth is exaggerated and the celebrity wins, as with the case of Portuguese soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who has reportedly accepted substantial libel damages on November 9, over a false allegation reported by the Daily Mirror in Britain regarding last July’s visit to a Hollywood nightclub. The former Manchester United star also received an apology from the High Court in London. The newspaper reported that the winger had “gone on a drink-fueled bender” in Los Angeles while he recovered from an ankle operation. Cristiano does not drink alcohol. He had traveled to Los Angeles, to attend a sports ceremony. In a statement issued through his solicitor, he said: I am delighted with this outcome. “I take training and recovery from injury very seriously and would never have ‘gone on a bender’ and danced in a nightclub without my crutches as the Mirror falsely claimed.” It also reported that the star also splashed out thousands of dollars on champagne and vodka for friends and models, having drunk four glasses of red wine earlier in the evening over a meal. The international famous Real Madrid and Portugal soccer player was awarded FIFA World Player of the Year for 2008, and is in the running for a second successive year after being named on a 23-man short list for this year’s award. The Portuguese winger, 24, who joined Real Madrid this summer from Manchester United for a world transfer fee, heads a familiar cast of soccer’s biggest names ahead of the annual gala in Zurich, Switzerland, on December 21. A few weeks ago, it was Kate Winslet’s turn to be awarded $40,000 from Britain’s Daily Mail for suggesting that the actress routinely needled for her fleshier frame earlier in her career lied when she told reporters earlier this year that she wasn’t working out during awards season, People reports. Kate Winslet obviously reads the papers; she also won damages in 2007 against a British magazine that claimed she visited a diet doctor. Another beauty settled too. Former Miss California, beauty queen Carrie Prejean quickly settled her religious discrimination lawsuit against her former pageant bosses, when a lawyer for the Miss California USA organization discovered an incriminating sex tape, TMZ.com reports. The Associated Press reported that Prejean and pageant organizers came to a confidential settlement about their feuding lawsuits. Prejean filed suit first, claiming libel, slander and religious discrimination, while the organization counter-sued saying Prejean refused to make appearances required of the state winner. Rose’s Scoop: It will be interesting to see Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin co-host the Oscars at the 82nd Academy Awards ceremony in March. PAGEFOUR SAN FRANCISCO—“Under the Dome” is one amazing novel by Stephen King, who breaks all the rules of a typical novel. Firstly, the cover is brilliant. King’s book covers have never appealed to me half as much as his novels and eerie story-telling style has done. This cover is incredible, it’s almost in 3D version. In a bold effort to achieve the arresting image for this jacket, art director Rex Bonomelli had to seek out graphic artists and designers who could do a convincing job of creating a realistic portrayal of the town of Chester's Mill, the setting of the novel. Bonomelli found the perfect team of digital artists, based in South America and New York, whose cutting edge work had previously been devoted to advertisement campaigns. The second thing that was daunting for me was the fact the novel was so long. Over one thousand pages, it took me a little longer than I thought. It was thoroughly worth it however. Author King’s return to supernatural horror is at the very Features "UNDER THE DOME" A REAL THRILLER least, compelling. Small-town Chester’s Mill, Maine is the place where the story is told, the town is inhabited by an invisible force field, the people inside are not protected from being forced to fight for their survival. You do get the feeling King must be a global warming believer, because as the situation in the town starts to deteriorate it’s because of the ecological effects of a “J.R. Ewing” type man in Big Jim Rennie, who is a drug lord and politician who enjoys isolating the citizens he rules over. The person who tries to save the town is of course a newspaper editor Julia Shumway and an Iraq veteran Dale “Barbie” Barbara, but also some teens on skateboard and others band together to save their world from the dictator who rules it. Fans and previous readers won’t miss the typical eerie fiction King is known for in his stories, like many of his books and movies, the action is nonstop and exciting. This book is one that takes a week to savor and enjoy, but if you are a SANFRANCISCONEWSNOVEMBER15,2009 By Tommy Garrett SCI FI fan or a Stephen King admirer, this book will never let you down. When I finished it, I thought to myself, what a great idea for a movie. I’m certain that idea is not original or lost on Stephen King. FAMOUS STRANGERS HOLLYWOOD—Being gifted with an infallible knack for being oblivious to the identity of renowned acting folk with whom I’ve kibitzed, or even acted with, has often me feel like a bonehead in this city where celebrity-adjacent is prime real estate. It may be a tribute to their acting chops that they catapulted me to a place so beyond the mortal realm that it was unimaginable to be standing right next to them, or maybe their plastic surgeon is to blame. Who can say? Here are a few tales of missed star sightings, soon to appear in my memoirs, “Grady Schlepped Here." Take One: When I was a lad in a small farming town in Northern California, the Hollywood Cavalcade came to town. My father’s corner drug store was chosen to film a scene in “Killer Klowns from Outer Space.” In Killer Klowns I learned what it is to be an extra. My head doubled for that of one of the leads in the back of a squad car, driven by the police chief. When I got in the back seat, handcuffs cutting into my wrists, I glimpsed the actor playing the chief. It sure looked like the actor who By Grady Miller played Dean Wormer in “Animal House.” You know the guy, steely blue eyes and sandpaper-coarse complexion. Although no more space divided us than separates a priest from his confessor, I didn’t dare speak to him. First, I immediately dismissed that an actor of his stature would be in beautiful downtown Watsonville, driving a police car at 10 p.m. in a movie about clowns from a spaceship. Secondly, I couldn’t remember his name for the life of me. To make peace with my curiosity, I deluded myself that I was a method extra: the arrested passenger would be terrified and would not speak to the police chief. Finally, after the last take, the actor’s name came to me. The air from my lungs vibrated my vocal cords, and I found myself saying, “Excuse me. Aren’t you John Vernon?” From under the police cap, those icy blues flashed and pinned me to the wall. “John Vernon?” he said. “Hell, I’m Richard Burton.” Take Two: One phone call can change everything. One moment you’re twiddling your thumbs, won- dering what you’re doing here, and the next you’re a man with a mission. The phone rang and I was instantly cast as Kafka’s father in a short film being made by an old friend. I gathered my wife and baby daughter and we were off. For the dream-like fantasy, “Kafka in Love,” the director’s home in Silver Lake was converted to the Kafka household in Prague. After my arrival, in floated a raven-haired actress. We chatted after being dressed in our period costumes—in my case a padded satin bathrobe, hers a waist-fitted lacy white dress to play Franza Kafka’s girlfriend, Felice. “I’ve done some television in Australia,” she told me, “And now I’m over here, trying my luck.” It was a story like so many. This was the story of many of us who come to Hollywood to make it, same story, different country. She was beautiful and cool, quiet and serious, but it took more than cool beauty to succeed. To me, she seemed tentative. And tentative doesn’t cut the mustard. We did the scene—a sort of Walpurgisnacht in Mr. and Mrs. Kafka’s bedroom—and the actress rushed off. It seemed like she had another audition. The day afterward, I was bowled over to learn that that same actress had appeared in a movie I adore, “Heavenly Creatures.” This movie, made by Peter Jackson before “Lord of the Rings,” contains an exquisite murder, every bit as shocking and visceral as the shower scene in “Psycho.” In it, the actress, Melanie Lynskey held her own alongside Kate Winslet. In the Silver Lake production I even got to kiss Melanie on the cheek and had no tingle of recognition from her previous role. Just as well, perhaps. I would have effused about the murder in “Heavenly Creatures,” and been inhibited when it came to playing our scene. Melanie is now reaping success in “Weeds” and a string of movies, playing alongside the likes of Matt Damon and being directed by Clint Eastwood. Not bad for a girl from New Plymouth, New Zealand. I saw her in Malibu the other day, driving a Bentley and towing a swimming pool. . . (Next week: an infamous stranger.) Point of View HONOR OUR HEROES, BUT FACE OUR ENEMIES SANFRANCISCONEWSNOVEMBER15,2009 WASHINGTON D.C.—Our brave heroes often know that when they leave our nation’s borders they will face dangers and possible death at the hands of our enemies. It was very sad on Thursday, November 5, at Fort Hood, Texas when a gunman, which I believe should be called a terrorist, shot and killed 13 and wounded 42 others in a horrific attack on our military and our nation. For years I have spoken about the mentally ill amongst us being ticking time bombs. They wreak havoc on many others while playing the game of telling their psychiatrists, they are not a danger to themselves or others. Then their physicians have to release them out on to the rest of us in society. Sooner or later the American people will find the strength and common sense to demand our politicians take the proper legislative action to keep us safe from those who are either mentally incapable of being sensible or rapists and sex predators, and ultimately terrorists both domestic and foreign. With U.S. congressional and military investigations going on now to figure out where and who made the irrational decision not to remove the psychopath from the military that made history by being a mass murderer. Why decisions were not made to By Tommy Garrett put the safety of the innocent soldiers before that of a man who was spewing typical Islamic hatred toward his own country and his own men and women in arms is beyond me. Hopefully we learn from this tragedy and won’t face too many more in the future, though I have great fears because in this country we go from being rude and racist when it’s unwarranted to overly politically correct, which is where we are now. No happy medium known as basic common sense. Immediately Muslim leaders in America went on the offensive and claimed this is not representative of Islam and even the man’s family claimed shock and horror, but does any of this make sense? We need to learn from this, that we should take people at their word. When they say we are infidels and their very holy book the Koran teaches that any non Muslim is a nonbeliever and an infidel. We had better take their own words at face value and not the excusers who cram the news networks with rhetoric claiming they are not teaching this in mosques around the nation and the world, when we know different. I decided not to focus totally on the terrorist, who our military and our politicians refuse to call that, and decided to honor those 13 heroes including the great American, Kimberly Munley who even after being shot three times took down the coward who was shooting innocent and many unarmed soldiers at Fort Hood. Kimberly is improving and our love and prayers go out to her and her family. She is what our nation stands for. Truth, equality, love of country and bravery. She is what she is being called, a tough cop who is a real American hero. For anyone who doubts women belong in the military or can do a job any man can do, just keep Ms. Munley in your mind. She previously had stopped burglars in her home. Let us remember those we lost due to the terrorist attack at Fort Hood, Texas. They include, Chief Warrant Officer Michael Grant Cahill (Ret.), Cameron, Texas; Maj. Libardo Eduardo Caraveo, Woodbridge, Va.; Army Staff Sgt. Justin DeCrow, Plymouth, Ind.; Capt. John Gaffaney, San Diego, Calif.; Spc. Frederick Greene, Mountain City, Tenn.; Spc. Jason Dean Hunt, Tipton, Okla.; Sgt. Amy Krueger, Kiel, Wis.; Pfc. Aaron Thomas Nemelka, West Jordan, Utah; Pfc. Michael Pearson, Bolingbrook, Ill.; Capt. Russell Seager, Racine, Wis.; Pvt. Francheska Velez, Chicago, Ill.; Lt. Col. Juanita L. Warman, Havre De Grace, Md. and PAGEFIVE Spc. Kham Xiong, St. Paul, Minn. Out of respect for patient’s privacy, it would not have been proper in my opinion to name the list of injured and those fighting for their lives. We love and pray for you as well, you are not forgotten. There is a fine line between fear mongering and preaching hatred against a religion. I do not believe in either. I do believe in our constitution which gives us the right to worship in any faith we may choose, if any at all. However, Americans are facing a threat from Islamist extremists and we should decide how we are going to face this problem head on without worrying about offending the religion of others. The time for pretending Islam is not speaking about violence and creating terrorists is over. Now we need to have an adult conversation about how we are going to protect ourselves from those who seek to destroy our nation and the lives of so many innocent Americans. Please remember serviceman PFC Bowe R. Bergdahl, who was kidnapped by the Taliban and is being held while on tour in Afghanistan recently. PFC Bergdahl was serving with an Alaska-based infantry regiment. Pray for all of our military men and women in harm’s way on a daily basis while on the frontlines of the NANCY COUNTS ON CORRUPTION WASHINGTON D.C.—Nancy D’Alesandro Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has regularly accused the Republicans in the House of displaying "a culture of corruption." Yet the critical vote to get the House version of the health bill out of the House, demonstrates that Speaker Pelosi not only likes corruption, she counts on it. Remember her middle name because it figures in the proof. On November 7, at 11:15 p.m. House bill 3962 passed by a vote of 220-215. Votes in favor of that bill included the following: Norm Dicks (D-Wash), Jane Harman (D-Cal), Marcy Kaptur (DOhio), Alan Mollohan (D-WVa), Jim Moran (D-Va), Charles Rangel (D-NY), Laura Richardson (D-Cal) and Peter Visclosky (D-Ind). If just three had voted against the bill, or had not been in the House to vote for it, the bill would almost certainly have failed. Why that curious comment about not being in the House? A staffer for the House Ethics Committee put an internal document on a home computer with file sharing capacities. As a result, the com- By John Armor plete list of Members of Congress under ethics investigations escaped into the press. These yes votes on the health bill were provided by Members who might have been expelled, had their possible ethics violations had been promptly and adequately examined, decided and acted upon. Now, who has the power with a wave of her hand, to speed up or slow down the ethics investigation of any Member of the House? Why, that would be the ultimate power, Speaker, Nancy Pelosi. She’s been scrambling all this week to engineer the last few votes for passage. Who would you expect to be the most reliable vote for the House bill, regardless of its contents, and regardless of whether the Member has read the bill? Logically, that reliable vote would come from a Representative who’s grateful to still be in the House, because the Speaker has so far saved him/her from an ethics violation. Is the drive to success, regardless of ethics, logic, or even criminal violations, a new style for Nancy Pelosi? I grew up in Baltimore, and for a brief time lived next door to Nancy D’Alesandro. She was the daughter of Tommy D’Alesandro, Jr., then the corrupt Mayor of Baltimore. To be sure, Tommy, Jr., never got charged with any crimes. But it was no secret that his political machine was a cash and carry operation whose sole criterion was victory at the polls and then victory on every vote on every issue. When Tommy, III, came along and became Mayor, he was charged with political corruption, along with a close ally, City Councilman Mimi DiPietro. Just before their trial was to begin, the essential witness against them disappeared. The elected State’s Attorney then went into court and dismissed the charges for "lack of evidence." The missing witness then promptly surfaced in a Las Vegas casino, one which may have had mob connections. Actually, the charges against the Councilman weren’t finally dismissed until 1971, when I brought it up in a news story. No one ever said that the D’Alesandro Machine left any of its supporters "twisting in the wind." Loyalty was absolute, but like the drive for victory it was free of such minor concerns as ethics or legality. Having used such tactics once, one should expect that Speaker Nancy D’Alesandro Pelosi will continue use such tactics on close votes in the House, as long has she has enough grateful Democrats to work on. Oh, and expect the ethics charges for a corporate-paid trip to the Carribean by five Members of the Congressional Black Caucus to be dismissed shortly. It seems that the person assigned to investigate that particular charge is Ethics Committee Member, G.K. Butterfield, (D-NC) who has two advantages. First, he is a fellow member of the Congressional Black Caucus. And, it happens that he went on the same corporate junket the previous year. Could Speaker Pelosi possibly have suggested to the Committee Chairmen that he pick Rep. Butterfield for this investigation? The bottom line is clear: Speaker Nancy D’Alesandro Pelosi counts on corruption to get the votes she wants. She will likely continue to do that as long as she has the opportunity.
