The innovative approach that we bring towards enhancing the growth of our younger lot speaks for itself. The international trips have become a regular feature and this time around the destination was exciting Russia. There were a record number of members in two batches for the trip, covering the cities of Moscow and St. Petersberg. Our member satisfaction is proof of the tremendous success of these ventures. The festivals of Onam and Janmashtami were celebrated with much pomp and gusto, as always. Both festivals bring out the best in our communities as was evident at the club. The next couple of months will see a lot of entertainment action with the festival celebration events of Navratri, Diwali and Eid. There are also plenty of activities for the MNC members, children and ladies lined up for the winter months. FF To Russia with love India Club organised a tour to the Russian Federation, visiting its two great, most striking and historical cities, St. Petersburg, the jewel in Russia’s imperial crown and Moscow, Russia’s lively capital. T he response was so good that all the 130 members could not be accommodated in one group, thus two groups were made. The first group embarked on the tour from 24th – 29th August while the second group visited Russia from 31st Aug – 5th Sept. Situated on the great Eurasian plane, Russia has been vulnerable to invasions from both the East and West but was also well-placed to expand laterally, once a centralised autocratic state emerged under the grand princes. Today Russia spans the entire northern part of the Eurasian continent. On arrival at the Moscow International airport from Abu Dhabi, an one hour domestic flight took us to St. Petersburg. It was 7pm in the evening and it was amazing to see the sunshine until so late in the evening. In the evening, a short city tour of St. Petersburg was organised with dinner at an Indian Restaurant and transfer to the hotel. Day 2 started of with the City Tour of key landmarks featuring the imposing Peter and Paul Fortress, among the city’s oldest structures, built in 1703. Inside the fortress, Peter and Paul Cathedral with a tall golden spire, contains the tombs of the Russian czars, including the founder of the city Peter the Great. A visit to the 12 India Club political prison founded in 1890’s was worthwhile. The members could also witness the canon shots produced, during mid day every day. In the afternoon, a visit was organised to The State Hermitage Museum with its unrivalled collection of European masterpieces; boasting one of the largest collections of art and artifacts in the world. On Day 3 everyone embarked on a Journey to Pushkin the summer residence of the Russian Tzars. A visit to the submarine museum was a unique experience. The river cruise on the Moika, Fontana and Neva rivers was breathtaking and the day ended with the mind blowing Russian Ballet Show. Day 4 morning was a gloomy and rainy day in St. Petersburg. A visit to the Cathedral of Split Blood was just memorable. The church dome was just astonishing. In the afternoon, all took the bullet train from St. Petersburg to Moscow. The 5 hour train journey was truly picturesque. Upon arrival in Moscow, a short tour of the Moscow city, New Maiden Nunnery Fortress Church and the Victory Park Fountain Museum was arranged prior to dinner and check in at the hotel. Day 5 started with a full day tour of Moscow with a visit to Jesus the Saviour Church and the ride to Kremlin by Moscow Metro, the heart of Russian political power and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tour included the Patriarch’s Palace, Cathedral Square and the majestic Armoury Museum, which houses state carriages from Catherine the Greats era and a fabulous collection of Carl Fabergé eggs. Red Square was simply amazing. The second batch got an opportunity to see the Russian day in Moscow where people in thousands flocked to the street and celebrated the Moscow Day. A few of our members got the opportunity to see the dance performance on Jai Ho song. In the evening everyone enjoyed the breathtaking Moscow Circus. The sixth day saw the travelers from India Club depart for Abu Dhabi with fond memories of a journey to the historical land of Russia. The India Club tour to Russia was organised though Akber Holidays. The present lifestyle demands adjustment on the part of the individual. Each of us, as per our coping resources, tries to adjust in this changing world. Some adjust by becoming overactive and others by withdrawing from the situation. When we fail to make a proper adjustment according to the demands of the situation, a state of negative stress or distress develops in our personality, which gives rise to mental or psychological problems. In most people the mind always remains in a state of arousal and tension. Yoga nidra, as a technique of pratyahara, not only provides relaxation to the body and mind but also has a number of benefits. Yoga nidra is one of the practices of pratyahara where the awareness is internalized. Literally, yoga nidra means ‘psychic sleep’ i.e. sleep with full awareness. In the practice of yoga nidra the body sleeps but the mind remains awake listening to the instructions. In psychology, the state achieved in yoga nidra is termed the hypnogogic state, a state between sleep and wakefulness. Stages of yoga nidra: The practice of yoga nidra is divided into the following stages: 1. Preparation: Yoga nidra is performed in the posture of shavasana, with the eyes closed. In this stage, initial relaxation of the body and mind is induced by the awareness of stillness, comfort, posture, position, breath, and listening to the external sounds with the attitude of a witness. 2. Sankalpa: When the body and mind are relaxed, then the practitioner is instructed to take a resolve according to his or her own wish. The sankalpa should be short, clear and positive. The practitioner repeats the selected sankalpa three times mentally, with full determination, conviction and confidence. 3. Rotation of consciousness: In the third stage, the awareness is rotated around the different body parts in a systematic and organized manner. The practitioner is instructed to remain aware, to listen to the instructions and to move the mind very rapidly according to the instructions without making any physical movements. The rotation of awareness in yoga nidra follows a definite sequence: right side of the body, beginning with the right hand thumb and ending with the little toe of the right foot; left side of the body, from the left hand thumb to the little toe of the left foot; back of the body, from the heels to the back of the head; and lastly the front of the body, from the forehead and individual facial features to the legs. Question " Yoga nidra Tennis - S. Ganesh Does one actually goes to sleep in yoga nidra, as the name suggests psychic sleep, if not then what happens during yoga nidra ? Ans................................................................................ 4. Breath awareness: In this stage, one simply becomes aware of the natural breath without making an attempt to change the flow of the breath. One may become aware of the breath by watching it in the nostrils, chest, and abdomen, or in the passage between the navel and the throat. The practitioner becomes aware of each incoming and outgoing breath by counting them mentally. 5. Opposite feelings and sensations: In this stage, the physical or emotional sensations are recalled, intensified and experienced fully. Usually this is practised with pairs of opposite feelings or sensations like heat and cold, heaviness and lightness, pain and pleasure, love and hate, and so on. 6. Visualization: In the stage of visualization, the awareness is taken to the dark space in front of the closed eyes, referred to as chidakasha in yogic terminology. The practitioner is then instructed to visualize some objects, stories or situations in the chidakasha. 7. Sankalpa: Once again the sankalpa, taken in stage two, is repeated mentally three times in this stage with full dedication, faith and optimism. 8. Ending the practice: Before ending the session of yoga nidra, slowly the awareness is externalized by asking the practitioner to become aware of the external sounds, objects and persons. They are asked then to slowly move the body parts and to stretch the body. Benefits of yoga nidra The practice of yoga nidra has a number of benefits. Important among them are as follows. 1.Minimizes tension 2.Trains the mind 3.Relaxes the mind 4.Clears up the unconscious 5.Awakens creativity 6.Enhances memory and learning capacity 7.Counteracts stress 8.Manages psychological disorders 9.Manages psychosomatic diseases 10.Cancer and yoga nidra As a technique of meditation, yoga nidra can be adopted as a therapeutic model in the treatment of cancer. In cancer therapy yoga nidra works at four different levels: By releasing repressed matter By pranic healing By mental healing By promoting willpower BHARAT THAKUR Founder of Bharat Thakur’s Artistic Yoga www.artisticyoga.com MEMBERSHIP No......................... FF ISS U E 5 8 SE P TEMBER - OCTOBER 2 0 1 1 members networking centre P iya Bawari was staged by India Club at Sh.Rashid Auditorium, IHS for its MNC members on 1st Oct, in association with Mayavi Dance Drama Concepts, Dubai. It was a tale of two lovers from different eras, distinct in their characteristics but unified by their insurmountable love for Krishna. Radha’s journey of love remains mystical whereas Meera’s devotion remains indefinable, thus leading to an abstract connection between the two most celebrated lovers of Krishna known to Indian culture. They might be divided by time but must have been united by soul. This musical was a literary canvas of love that tried to capture every aspect of their connection with Krishna. To that effect, the entire Kitchen has been refurbished after a period of nearly 20 years. Not only has the Kitchen area been Club in the region to apply these standards. Another effort on our part to continuously improvise and improve the living standards as of today. Club members can also support us by ensuring that newspapers at home are deposited in our recycle bins placed near Gate no.3. ISO celebrating with officials Kitchen expanded to accommodate the ever growing demand for the Club’s food and beverage facilities, the fuel utilized has been shifted from the conventional gas cylinders to a gas Gas Bank bank which increases efficiency through lower consumption. We at the club believe that starting small or big, does not make a difference, as long as each one plays their part in contributing to the betterment of mankind and to our environment. Towards achieving the bigger object we keep assiduously adding to our efforts in every which way possible and will continue to do so. We are also in the final stages of completion of implementing the ISO14001:2004 standards which concentrate on environmental management systems. On attaining this certification, we will again be the premier ISO team We also celebrated 10 years since the Club attained its ISO9001 certification. Over the last couple of years this has been upgraded to conform to the 2008 standards,. With regular audits and constant improvisation, this quality standard has been an effective tool in identifying various areas of improvisation throughout the Club. For the 2nd year running, India Club will be supporting the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign in a big way. From Ladies coffee evenings, where free mammogram checkup vouchers will be given, to participating in the Safe and Sound walkathon on October 28, 2011, members are encouraged to sign up and make a difference. A taboo subject no more, breast cancer awareness has taken centre stage in the world of women empowerment. Protecting members of the fairer sex from this debilitating disease, is the duty of today’s society. Awareness is only the premier step in this direction, control and treatment another factor altogether. If early detection and discovery can save women from the latter, it is already well worth the effort on our part. Bharat Chachara Solve the sweet equation and win!
