Summary of sanitary napkin tests of Simona products in comparison with other brands.
Test 751 Simona Ultra Sanitary napkin with Nonwoven cover and test 756 Libresse Super Clip 3 mm also
with Nonwoven cover.
The Simona product has a better rewet but a substantially slower absorption speed than Libresse , the Liquid
wicking distance is substantially better on the Simona product. After the third dosage of 5 ml the test fluid
reaches one side edge of the Libresse product (picture 756-3) but the Simona product keeps the test fluid
well inside the centre portion of the product (picture 751-3). The test data is the same for Simona with and
without wings.
Test 760 Simona Ultra Sanitary Napkin with Polyethylene film cover and 761 Always Ultra Sanitary
Napkin also with Polyethylene film cover.
The Simona product has a better rewet but a substantially slower absorption speed than Always , the Liquid
wicking distance is better on the Simona product than Always. The test fluid stays well within the centre portion
of booth products.
Test 762 Simona Pantyliner Single wrap with Nonwoven Cover and 763 Libresse Pantyliner Normal, with
Nonwoven cover.
The test results shows no statistically significant difference between the products , they can be considered as
equal. Booth products keeps the test fluid well within the centre portion of the products after the first dosage of
1.5 ml , booth shows a leakage to the side edge after the second dose of 1,5 ml test fluid. Picture 762-2 and 7632.
Test 764 Simona Pantyliner Single wrap with Polyethylene film cover and 765 Always Pantyliner also
with Polyethylene film cover.
The results of this test shows similar results as the other tests Simona has a better rewet but a slower absorption
speed than the competitor in this case Always . Always however shows a better liquid wicking distance than
Simona. Booth products keeps the test fluid well within the centre portion of the products after the first dosage of
1.5 ml , but shows a leakage to the side edge after the second dose of 1,5 ml test fluid (picture 764-2 and 765-2).
Test 767 Always Tanga Pantyliner with Nonwoven cover and 766 /753 Simona String Pantyliner 3 folded
with Nonwoven cover.
The test volume for this small products, 0.5 ml, is to small to give significant measuring results on the absorption
speed. Simona shows a better rewet than Always but a somewhat shorter liquid wicking distance. The Simona
product keeps the test fluid well in the centre of the product (picture 767-1) after the first dosage of 0,5 ml
whilst Always leaks to one side edges of the product (picture 766-1). Booth products leaks to the side edge after
the second dosage of 0,5 ml test fluid but Always leaks to booth sides (picture 767-2) and Simona only to one
side (picture 766-2).
Comments:
On sanitary napkins the absorption speed of the test fluid is of less importance since the velocity of the
menstrual fluid loss normally is very slow. The need for a fast absorption speed on pantyliners is even lesser.
The rewet shows the dryness of the product after fluid absorption and reflects the comfort of the product.
The fluid wicking distance is more of a technical importance since a longer wicking distance normally makes
the product work better since a bigger area of the absorption core is used .
The unique fully closed single wrap on the Simona products gives a much better protection against
contamination than the single wrap on Always and Libresse products.
