Situated in France’s Charente limousine region,
Domaine des Etangs offers a truly unique hotel
experience.
The largest 5 star resort in mainland France, it expands
over 1000 hectares of protected natural surroundings,
a mixture of forests, grassland and ponds.
It is an exceptional landscape, consisting of a fully
renovated 11th century château and along with
numerous works of contemporary art, landscaped
gardens, six farmhouse cottages, a longère, a
vegetable garden, Gallo-Roman baths, two swimming
pools, a floating tennis court and a Michelin star
gourmet restaurant. Domaine des Etangs offers you a variety of different
experiences: stay in one of our seven magnificent suites
housed within the château, experience true comfort in
one of our 6 farmhouse cottages or get away from it all
in one of the 4 bedrooms of the longère.
Yet the initial impression of untamed nature soon
reveals signs of the skilled and patient hand of
craftsmen who have shaped a world in equilibrium.
Here, the passage of time complements the gentle
rhythm of the passing seasons and that of the animals
that live here.
This is a place for rediscovery, relaxation, observation
and for savoring the present moment.

THE CHÂTEAU
This is a simple château, gracious in its humility; bedecked in
light stone, which strikes the perfect balance between earth
and sky.
It maintains the charm and the spirit of a typical family home,
as well as some of the mystery of its origins, which can be
dated back to the 11th century.
Here you will find 7 vast suites and bedrooms, each of which
are as different from one another as the stars after which they
are named.
On the ground floor, the library, the dining room, the smoking
room and various lounges allow guests to while the time away
with a book, a meal or a tipple.
The château’s interior is interspersed here and there with
antiques, tailor-made creations, unique objects and original
artwork.
A continuous dialogue is created between old and new,
boldness and simplicity, and brought to life by the interior
designer, Isabelle Stanislas.

THE ENTRANCE HALL
Vast and well-lit, the entrance hall creates a tone which is classic
but equally contemporary, with its majestic staircase, its bestiary
and its sparkling constellation suspended from the ceiling.
THE ‘SALON FAMILLE’
With its deceivingly classic interior, this living area conveys true
personality: a touch of humour from the large family painting
by Hans-Peter Feldmann, the shimmer of the glass wall lamps
by Murano and one eye looking up at the stars thanks to the
presence of an 1872 Secrétan telescope.

THE ‘SALON HOMME’
In this understated living area, a magnificient bar welcomes
the guests and the stunning Onyx armchairs are accentuated
with a cashmere finish and the vast fabric rug designed by
Ateliers Pinton balances out the roughness of the stone walls.
THE ‘SALON FEMME’
This cosy living space, dominated by powerdy shades is a place
where secrets are shared in hushed voices, in a setting dating
back to 1650, with the addtion of ceiling lights created by
Ralph Nauta et Lonneke Gordijn,
which are delicately accentuated with Dandelion clock
fragments.

THE FUMOIR
Beneath light wooden panelling, smoke from cigars will
rise upwards towards a luminous creation by Michael
Anastassiades, where it will then mix with scents of leather
and cognac.
THE LIBRARY
In addition to the abundance of books and games available
here, you also have the opportunity to clear your head in one
of the more quiet corners of the room, basking in the heat
from the nearby chimney.

In the spacious lounge of this suite, you will find
the two brushed brass discs of Laurent Grasso’s
Soleil Double, which contrast with a neighboring
neon sphere by Michael Anastassiades.
The adjacent bedroom consists of a glass
ceiling, from which hangs a crystal chandelier
to illuminate the tile sky. The bed rests in the
hollow of a protective alcove.
The bathroom bathes in the light streaming in
from an open window, which overlooks the park.

It’s a quiet and gentle room, nestled at the base
of a tower, on the banks of the château’s pond.
The headboard features a number of engravings
showing the movement of Mars and Mercury in
relation to Earth, a 16th century planisphere and a
pair of wooden wings, perhaps used by Mercury
himself in flying from one planet to the next.
Decorated in leather, the chested drawer
suitcases by Marteen de Ceulaer keep guests’
personal belongings safe.

Warm and bathed in shades of prune and
bordeaux red, the Mars room is a choice that
the god of springtime and youth saves for those
who are bold enough. This is a place for you to
sleep or live your passions.
On the headboard sit a number of plates
including Mappemonde géographique de la
planète Mars from 1782, Astronomie, a plate
from the Diderot and Alembert encyclopaedia,
and a pair of Malby globes from 1867.

The Gallo-Roman baths are located in the basement of the
Château. They give guests the opportunity to participate in

The château’s attic houses a large game room, where, beneath
an elaborate wooden framework, children- and those who
remain children at heart- can rummage through the many
boxes of treasures, unearthing games and costumes, take part
in lively games of table football or show off their skills around
the snooker table.

THE LONGÈRE
A long building with typically rural architecture,
the Longère consists of 4 different suites, each devoted to a
particular season of the year.
A different colour dominates the interior of each one, and
is carefully chosen so that it blends harmoniously with each
seasonal theme.
All are different but each provides a vast and generous living
space.
Interior designer, Isabelle Stanislas, created the individual
atmospheres for these suites by playing with various different
materials and lighting methods: an off-white varnished chair
here and a beige monobloc chair there, and on the floor, a
tailor-made rug, created exclusively for Domaine des Etangs.

THE FARMHOUSE
COTTAGES
On one of your strolls, you may come across a metairie. There
are others, here and there, between two ponds, hidden in a
verdant hollow, or sitting in a meadow which stretches out
towards the horizon. There are six in total.
Warm, cosy and transcending the passing of seasons and even
centuries, each one is constructed out of stone, glass and
wood, making use of the age-old/ traditional savoir-faire of
expert craftsmen.
They are easily accesible, thanks to the Blue Summer electric
cars which have been made available to our guests.

The restaurant is inspired by the dyad, the marriage of two
complementary ideas and principles.
It is also the name of the gourmet restaurant
at Domaine des Etangs.
A necessary balance to strike in any situation but particularly in
the case of gastronomy, where a sense of harmony between
ingredients is the key to a successful dish.
A balance is also created between the rusticity of the
restaurant’s old stone interior and the refined nature of the
culinary experience it offers.
Additional balance is created between pleasure for the palate
and the enjoyment of guests , who receive a friendly service.
Dyades offers a number of different culinary experiences for
guests to choose from, which evolve according to varying
guest demands and special occasions

THE CHEF
Originally from Grenoble, Michelin star Chef Fabien Beaufour is
in charge of catering at Domaine des Etangs. Having acquired
a thorough understanding of gourmet cuisines (Anne-Sophie
Pic in Valence, Fernand Point in Vienne) he gained further
experience in the United States (The French Laundry in
Yountville, Eleven Madison Park in New York) and returned
to Europe in 2011. Before joining Domaine des Etangs, he
was Head Chef at the Oblix restaurant, situated at the top of
The Shard in London. In the creation of his menu, he places
a particular emphasis on working with local producers and
reducing as much as possible the journey from earth to table.
THE TEAM
The Head Chef is supported in the creation of his dishes by a
solid team of personnel, some of which have followed his work
since his time in London. Resident pâtissier, Stanislas Durand,
lends his expertise to the sweet section of the menu. A ‘savoirfaire’ exchanged in the kitchen by members of a pleasant and
reliable service team, who are always open to listening to the
needs and wants of the customer.

thousand trunks», a generous rib of beef, cooked in the fire

Whether wild or domesticated, nature still remains at the very
core of Domaine des Etangs.
A mixture of woodland with some trees more than 100 years
old, vast fields where Limousine cows graze peacefully and
ponds around which you may encounter flocks of flying ducks,
cygnets or herons. Nor is it rare to cross the path of a fox, wild
boar, stag or deer.
The ornamental gardens surrounding the château are the
work of unconventional landscape gardener, Camille Muller.
He has given it an unexpected charm, while also being open to
experimenting with nature.
The 2500m2 spiral-shaped vegetable garden produces an
impressive collection of the best seasonal products.
A culinary journey which alerts the senses and expands
your appetite.

Domaine des Etangs and its 1000 hectare area can be explored
in a number of ways :
On foot, on horseback, by bike, by boat, or even using one of
our Blue Summer silent electric cars.
Whether you want to have fun, push yourself, or even just take
advantage of some sunny weather, you are sure to find what
you are looking for from our outdoor swimming pool, sports
hall, or our unique floating tennis court, all of which are blended
effortlessly into the surrounding landscape of the Domaine.

Fitness trails are designed for athletes of all ages.
The fitness trail, mainly designed for adults and
teenagers, lets you stretch your legs for 7 km of
hiking or running. The layout is designed to let you
shorten the full route to suit your preferred distance.
Most of the trail winds through woodland or over
meadows.
Three cycle paths provide the perfect opportunity to
discover the surrounding countryside alone or with
the family.

WELL-BEING SERVICES
The care that we offer here at Domaine des Etangs is not about
feeling better. It is about feeling good.
Our expertise in skincare runs deep. We believe the skin is
more than an external barrier: it is an expression of the inner
self, which is why our treatments focus on both surface and
soul: the balance between outside and in; between the visible
and the unseen.
For the moment, our services will be carried out in the bedrooms
of guests.
The Domaine des Etangs spa will open its doors in June 2016.

Domaine des Etangs places a great deal of importance on the
place of children and does everything they can to make sure that
they are very happy during their stay here.
Here they will come across a play park which is extremely well
equipped, with everything from wooden huts, to trampolines,
climbing frames, toboggans and a zip-line.
From growing flowers and fresh fruit, to baking cakes or
exploring the vegetable garden,
Domaine des Etangs is also the Domaine des Enfants.
