What Costa Rica
Means to Us
Costa Rica is the world’s best example in
sustainable tourism and environmental
awareness. Sunny Land Tours is a long time
supporter of responsible eco-tourism. We
promote tour products that are environmentally sustainable and beneficial to the
local culture. We feel we play an important
role in preparing you, the traveler, to share
the natural treasure of Costa Rica while
caring for it at the same time. We believe
that an important part of our mission is to
sustainably manage tourism by helping
communities earn fair incomes, promote
cultures and protect the environment. Part
of our objective is to promote a larger sense
of responsibility among our guests themselves, increasing their awareness of biodiversity and their understanding of the
impact their visit may bring to the natural
environment, while encouraging respect
for, and an interest in, local cultures.
Nature’s
Greatest
Museum
Very much a pioneer in travel to Costa
Rica, our 44 year old company has been
perfecting travel here since 1984. So
much so that we’ve built our own hotel in
Costa Rica, the Chachagua Rainforest
Hotel, and are the only company ever to
have received an award of recognition twice
from the Costa Rican tourism industry.
You see, we are simply in love with Costa
Rica and are waiting to share a piece of this
ecological paradise with you. We have our
own office in Costa Rica to ensure outstanding customer service and support during your trip. This enables us to offer you
the best prices, value added extras, and special service that you deserve. Sunny Land
Tours Costa Rica located in Sabana Sur,
San Jose is available to assist during your
stay. Be it restaurant suggestions and reservations, optional tours, and recommended
professional services such as law offices and
licensed realtors to explore the myriad of
real estate opportunities, Sunny Land
Tours Costa Rica is ready to assist in every
way possible.

The Green
Earth Garden
®
We are taking action towards the
effort to slow global warming. As
we approach this challenge Sunny
Land is helping to develop and
fund a botanical garden in Costa
Rica to create carbon offsets that
help slow the drastic change in the
earth’s climate and to preserve the
natural treasures of Costa Rica.

economic, intellectual and spiritual
development of Costa Rican society.
Your automatic contribution to this
program, referred to as “Adopt a
school”, provides transportation and
entrance to INBioparque, guided tour,
take-home learning materials and lunch
to less fortunate rural and urban school
children and institutions such as the
Hellen Keller School for the Blind and
visually impaired, who otherwise would
not have the means or opportunity to
participate in this educational program.
Sunny Land Tours has enabled thousands of children to take part in this
program. We are also working with the
National Institute of Biodiversity to
develop and fund an interactive exhibit
for the blind and visually impaired, in
an effort to share a glimpse of nature’s
beauty with those that have challenged
sight or none at all. We even bring
people together under this program by
orchestrating visiting school groups
from the U.S. to meet their Costa Rican
counterparts during their tour at
Inbioparque. Here nature provides the
perfect backdrop for a cultural exchange
and a greater awareness of the importance their visit to Costa Rica brings. By
understanding and appreciating biodiversity these kids are becoming strong
supporters of the nature conservation
which in turn will determine the future
of the natural wonders that are the core
of the ecotourism industry in Costa
Rica. Supporting responsible tourism is
the key to Sunny Land’s success.
Make this vacation experience not only
memorable but meaningful too!
Sunny Land Tours is your key to Costa
Rica and, when you book with us,
you're supporting ecotourism in the
most concrete way possible, by
providing an opportunity for local
children to experience it, too. Children
who can ensure its future. Sunny Land

Adopt a School program; every vacation

Institute of Biodiversity (INBIO) in
Costa Rica to participate in a biodiversity
educational program. INBio is a nongovernmental, non-profit association
that promotes better understanding of
the value of biodiversity in order to
improve the quality of life. The program
increases awareness about biodiversity
among children and the understanding
of the possibilities to incorporate this

SAN JOSE
4 DAYS VALUE PRICED • ARRIVE ANY DAY
San Jose, the capital city of Costa Rica, is
located in the Central Valley at 3,800 feet
above sea level with a population of 1 million. The city bustles with all the activity of
any major metropolitan area but at a much
slower pace. In addition to San Jose, the
urban area of the Central Valley comprises
the cities of Alajuela, Cartago and Heredia.
San Jose is the "capital" or headquarters of
half day and full day tour departures to some
of the most exciting places in Costa Rica.
There are so many things to do and see from
San Jose. See facing page for tour listings
that depart daily and include pick-up and
drop-off from your hotel in San Jose. Many
people don’t realize that San Jose is not only
a city but also a province. Less than 15 minutes away from downtown San Jose city lies
the attractive and lively district of Escazu
and the rich growing area of Santa Ana.
Escazu is perhaps the most desirable place
for dining and shopping in the country. Its
quaint cafes, gourmet restaurants, boutiques
and modern shopping malls make Escazu
popular among tourists and nationals alike.
Picturesque architecture and postcard views
over the Central Valley are also trademarks
of the area. Escazu is our favorite spot to
visit while in the San Jose area.

CHACHAGUA
RAINFOREST
HOTEL

Bienvenidos a MI CASA!
Chachagua Rainforest Hotel
W
elcome to our home, the
Chachagua Rainforest Hotel.
More than a home away from
home, Chachagua Rainforest Hotel
offers guests access to all the bustling
activities of the Arenal/Fortuna region
while providing a safe serene haven for
rest, relaxation and nature exploration.
Over 10 years ago, Sunny Land Tours and
several Costa Rican partners, interested
in eco-tourism built the Chachagua
Rainforest Hotel. Today, Chachagua
provides economic support to the surrounding community by using only local materials, providing employment to area residents and by protecting Chachagua's private
rainforest reserve teeming with wildlife. The Technological Institute of San Carlos,
a local university specializing in agriculture, asked for Chachagua's help to
create an agri-tourism curriculum for
their university. Since Chachagua
Rainforest offers an abundance of
cattle, horses, fruit trees and vegetables,
students from the local university work
hands on at Chachagua to develop and
harvest these locally produced goods in
order to self sustain Chachagua's hotel
and its guests. Beef, poultry, eggs, milk
and cheeses are produced at Chachagua
and visitors are welcome to participate
in the daily harvest or fish in our tilapia pond. What is important is that our guests
have gained a unique and authentic perspective of Costa Rican life. A responsible
rainforest real estate project has also been developed for those guests who wish to return
and for those who may never want to
leave. Here in our home, we can offer
our clients the most special rainforest
experience with an outstanding level
of service and fresh delicious home
cooked meals. Real life "cowboys" will
help you explore the Pizotes Trail,
the Waterfall Trail and our butterfly
garden, and later you can rejuvenate
yourself in our new spring-fed swimming pool. Welcome to our home!

HOW IT WORKS...
Belize is a natural treasure. Within a
reasonable distance from Belize City, you
can enjoy secluded idyllic beaches, dense
jungle habitats or Maya ruins. Here, you
will find all the components to create your
own custom design Holiday. The basic
package includes airfare from the United
States and 7 nights at the selected beach,
mountain, or jungle hotel of your choice.
Your preferred mode of transportation to
and from these hotels is listed separately.
See flight map for domestic air prices or
car rental box for daily rental rates to
combine with the basic package to create
your own personalized vacation. You can
combine hotels within their respective
groups to create a more diverse itinerary
and a perfect vacation in Belize.
Driving and Flying in Belize...
Belize hosts a modest but exceptionally well
maintained network of highways. Names
like the Hummingbird Highway, Northern
Highway, Western Highway, Southern
Highway, and Manatee Road disect most of
Belize in a convenient manner affording the
driver excellent road conditions. Of course,
secondary rural roads often times unpaved
are more the norm in the peripheral, outlining areas of most lodges. That's why Sunny
Land has selected only the finest fleet of
four wheel drive vehicles for you, our valued
client. Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) and
local sales tax are not included in daily
rental rates and are payable in Belize.
Domestic flights in Belize are a common,
convenient and speedy way to move
around. Service is provided via small commercial aircraft. In almost all cases, flight
times are less than 20 minutes. There is no
more perfect way to appreciate the
grandeur of Belize than from the window of
a seemingly private airplane. Domestic airfares, shown in the map are per person
round trip departing from Belize City
International Airport and offer connections
with U.S. arrival and departure flights.

• Round trip economy air fare from the US
• 7 nights at the selected beach or nature

2ND DAY • BELIZE CITY/XUNANTUNICH/
SAN IGNACIO
This morning we depart Belize City via the
Western Highway to the Belize Zoo. The
zoo was begun in 1983
when a small group of
Belizean animals, once used
as movie stars for natural
history films, were left without financial support for
their maintenance. As a
result of this situation, their
caretaker then changed her
title to zoo director, and
started a small zoo. Today,
the zoo is home to more
than a hundred species of
native Belizean animals
including many endangered Diving in Belize
species. Continue to San Ignacio, hugging
the banks of the Macal River. Quaint
shops, restaurants, inns and houses dot the
surrounding hillside in this frontier-like
town. After lunch tour to Xunantunich
Mayan Ruin. This major ceremonial center
is located on a natural limestone ridge,
providing a panoramic view of the Cayo
District. The largest pyramid, “El
Castillo”, has been partially excavated and
explored, and bears a remarkable stucco
frieze on the east side of the A-6 structure.
Three carved stelae found at the site are on
display in the plaza. Transfer to the charming Crystal Paradise Resort for check-in,
dinner and overnight. Meals BLD
3RD DAY • MOUNTAIN PINE RIDGE/
RIO ON POOLS/RIO FRIO CAVES
The Cayo District’s principal town of San
Ignacio is the gateway to some of Belize’s
most precious ecological gems. After
breakfast at the hotel, we will experience
the wonders of Mountain Pine Ridge.
Bring along your walking shoes, swimwear
and adventurous mind for a full day of
activity. The reserve is teaming with hills
and valleys, rivers and falls, swimming
holes and caves, all surrounded by the
majestic beauty of Pine Forests. Our main
stops will be at the Rio Frio Caves, Rio on
Pools, and weather and road conditions
permitting, you’ll get a chance to see the
1000 ft. Hidden Valley Waterfalls. Bring
along your binoculars, as there is much to
see in the line of exotic flora and fauna,
endemic only to this extremely rugged, but
beautiful part of the county. Lunch is
included before returning back to Crystal
Paradise Resort for dinner and overnight.

hour drive. Tikal, Maya for the Place of the
Voices, is nestled in the dense jungles of
the Peten Region of Guatemala. This site
has been extensively excavated and
restored and is probably the most recognized of all Maya Ruins. In the great Plaza,
two mighty temples face each other while
roof combs of three more

forest. In the 50 square mile
area are ruins some 3,000
other structures. Return to
