A cycling paradise with a dreamy backdrop
While in winter the area around the Saukaser, Pengelstein, Brechhorn and the Hohe Salve
are perfect 'playgrounds' for carvers, boarders and leisure skiers, in summer these routes
provide the most fantastic climbs and the speediest descents for mountain bikes. Panoramic views to the dreamy backdrop of the Wilder Kaiser, the Kitzbüheler Horn, the Hohe
Salve, the Großvenediger and the Großglockner are of course included. Anyone who wants
to treat themselves to a relaxed ascent to the trails and to enjoy tours in higher locations
can travel by cable car. In keeping with the maxim 'Mountain biking light' you can save
yourself the sweat-inducing ascent: just hop onto the gondola; bike transport is of course
provided free of charge.
Ride like a pro
In the Bike Academy, Austria’s first mountain bike school, ambitious riders get to train like
pros. In the Academy’s own Bike Park technique training is to the fore. Head out on routes
of varying lengths and difficulty levels over hill and dale – or asphalt - with experienced
guides. National team trainer Kurt Exenberger provides tips on how to improve your technique and tactics.
Up the valley – down the valley
Not everyone feels easy about climbing 'chamois-like' with the bike in this mountain biking
paradise. For all those of you who would rather have the well-developed cycle trail network,
Brixental has something to offer everyone. Easily truncated routes with low altitude differences take you through the entire Brixental region and its natural lateral valleys. A genuine
paradise with countless kilometres for family excursions by bike, with lots of stops to relax,
take a breather and play.

Enjoyable riding by E-Bike
Electric bikes don’t run by themselves, a little bit of muscle power is
needed too. The energy for this is provided in electric and culinary
guise, in the many battery changing stations, which are also excursion destinations, inns and snack stations.
Do you want to get out into the natural surroundings, experience the loveliest places in the
Kitzbüheler Alpen? Would you like to get from A to B at speed and in relaxed fashion and in so
doing have twice as much riding fun, for half the energy expenditure? Then movelo E-Bike is
just right for you. Movelo is the perfect combination of sophisticated E-bike innovation, well
developed cycle trails and hire stations, as well as battery stations.

quietly and in an environmentally-friendly manner.

everyone moving. 'Experience' the sights, the loveliest viewing points and the cultural highlights in the region. Optimally developed cycle trails – far away from any main roads – take
you right into the middle of the natural surroundings.
Hire - get on - go!
Numerous hire stations, hotels and accommodation providers throughout the Kitzbühel Alpen
region provide E-Bikes from movelo. A list of hire stations can be found on the Movelo bike

100% cycling fun in the Kitzbüheler Alpen
In the Kitzbüheler Alpen you are, so to speak, on a first name basis with a bike
or a mountain bike. Regardless of whether you are in Kitzbühel, Brixental, the
holiday region of St. Johann in Tirol or the holiday region of the Hohe Salve,
everything stands for 100% holiday and cycle fun!
There are easy family cycle trails as well as more demanding routes across the
numerous hills and little rises. Even the very 'hardcore' get their money‘s worth.
Here the cry is: get up the mountain with those robust calves´!

General information - So you stay safe while on the go and know the score about everything!
Rules of conduct
MTB signposts
After severe weather the trails can be almost impassable, stones and trees
may block the route. Trails often proceed through steep terrain where there
is the risk of crashing. Usually danger sites of this sort are not secured.
Since our forests and Alpine pastures are managed, on approved MTB
routes you should be aware that there may be vehicular traffic. It may also
be the case that routes will be inaccessible on occasion, since forestry
work may be carried out on the route.
Difficulty level
For this reason there are very special rules of conduct which apply
on Tyrol MTB routes, to protect the rider and also for all those people
for whom the forest is a place of work. It is in your own interests to
adhere to the rules and the occasional unavoidable barriers:
• Always ride at a controlled speed and be vigilant, especially at bends
since there may be obstacles at any time (e.g. damage to the bike trail,
stones, branches, wood which has been placed in temporary storage,
grazing animals, cattle grids, barriers, tractor-forestry machinery,
authorised vehicles)!
• Watch out for hikers and walkers and only overtake at walking speed!
• Be aware of the difficulty level of the route and assess your experience
and ability as a rider accordingly! Wear a helmet to protect your head
and check your equipment before each bike tour (brakes, bell, light)!
• Stop at barriers and accept the fact that the primary purpose of this
route is for agricultural and forestry use! Close gates!
• Show consideration to the natural surroundings and the wild animals;
do not leave the marked route; avoid riding off the open trails and finish
your bike tour before sunset. Do not leave any rubbish!
Singletrail specific rules of conduct:
• Please note! You ride at your own risk and only at a walking
pace – the condition of the trails are not inspected!
• Watch out for hikers, grazing animals and wild animals – do
not ride away from the path!
• Be aware of Alpine dangers!
Page 30
natural occurrences. On the trail any steep terrain which follows is not
secured.
Much like ski pistes, official mountain bike routes are also subdivided into
difficulty levels, which are shown in the route signposts.
Difficulty levels help you to choose a route and your equipment.
The guidelines, according to which mountain bike routes are provided with
difficulty levels, are not laws or ordinances, rather they are standards issued by the state government in the context of a private company,
and are graded blue, red, black and yellow.

Easy Moderate
Difficult Singletrail
Difficult tour / BLACK ROUTE: difficult
Challenging MTB route with numerous dangerous sections which exceed
the maximum incline of the red route and whose route characteristics are
even more difficult. MTB equipment is obligatory. Riding with foresight and
in a manner which is appropriate to the situation is required.
Extremely difficult tour / SINGLETRAIL: extremely difficult
Extreme and challenging route; no longer a route with vehicular traffic. Has
the characteristics of an Alpine trail, with all the Alpine dangers. Crash-risk,
no safety facilities such as railings are available; very steep. Expect to
come across obstacles such as high steps, roots and boulders. Route not
always ridable; there are some, depending on your riding ability, sections
where you will have to push or carry the bike. Due to weather effects
these routes are often only passable with difficulty.
Easy tour / BLUE ROUTE: easy
Information on bus and train connections:
Family-friendly cycle trail which can be tackled with standard bicycles;
good track cover (fine gravel or asphalt and similar coverage). Inclines
and descents between 0% and 5%, on short sections a maximum of 10%.
Alternates between inclines and descents, no continuous ascents. Routes
are vehicle-free, or there are not many vehicles. Any specific danger areas
or danger points are shown with specific labelling (e.g. signposts).
Would you like to cycle just one section and get home in a more comfortable fashion?
No problem! The great bus and train connections in our region make your
return and subsequent journeys a doddle!
All information can be found on our homepage (www.kitzalps.com). The
ladies and gentlemen in our respective Information Offices are also happy
to help you look for the right connections!
Moderate difficulty level tour / RED ROUTE: moderate difficulty level
Requires sport-level cycling ability and particularly careful riding. Mountain
bike equipment is recommended. Inclines and descents between 5% and
12%, on short sections up to a maximum of 17%. There may be unclear
route sections which have a lot of bends. Expect to meet vehicular traffic which might take up the entire width of the route. The trail facilities,
among others, the condition of the track, drainage facilities (e.g. water
reels), shutoff devices (e.g. barriers), safety facilities (e.g. missing railings
and fences) and information on danger points, is exclusively oriented to
commercial traffic with tractors and trucks. Such facilities may present
danger sites for cyclists.
Expect routes to be cordoned off for operational requirements (e.g. wood
logging and transport); in the trail area there may be stored goods, operating equipment and stored machinery and danger sites resulting from
TransKITZalp / 4 days - 5400 metres altitude
Wörgl – Westendorf – Kitzbühel – Kitzbüheler Horn – St. Johann in Tirol
4 days – 5400 metres altitude – huge views – sharp trails – traditional stop-off for a bite to eat
DAY 1 / Wörgl – Kelchsau / approx. 1450 metres altitude
DAY 2 / Kelchsau – Westendorf / approx. 950 metres altitude
The starting point for our 4-day tour right through the Kitzbühel Alpen is the vibrant shopping
metropolis of Wörgl, (510 m), which is easy to get to via public transport and an ideal starting
point for tours in the Kitzbühel Alpen.
The first climb starts on Wildschönauer Straße at Gasthof Berghäusl and takes us on a good
forest trail along Route No. 337 to Möslalmkogel (1109m). From the traditional Alpine lodge
you get to enjoy a superb panoramic view into Inntal and to the Wilder Kaiser. Along the cycle
path to the wooded Riederberg (1045 m) and descent to Pinnersdorf. From here proceed along
cycle route No. 21 to Hopfgarten in Brixental. In Hopfgarten on Kelchsauer Straße, route No.
229 begins on the Penningberg and continues along the toboggan run to Haagalm (1349 m).
You can either treat yourself to some refreshments here or tackle the descent down to the
mountain village of Kelchsau (800 m).
Route 227 proceeds from the romantically located little village of Kelchsau to Hopfgarten.
Hopfgarten with its historic town centre is worth a visit at any rate! From here proceed along
cycle path No. 21 along Windauer Ache to the lateral valley of the same name. The first climb
of this tour begins at Gasthof Lendwirt, which, via Route No. 206 heads down to the Schwaigerberg, Kinzlingalm (1165 m) and across Hochsparalm (1044m). Here you should take a
detour and pay a visit to the traditional Käsealm. Re-invigorated continue to Jagerhäusl. From
here Route 21 takes us comfortably along Windauer Ache to Westendorf, where the second
day of the TransKITZalp finishes.
Overnight stay options available in Kelchsau (Information tel.: +43 (0) 5335 8105)

DAY 3 / Westendorf – Kitzbühel / approx. 1000 metres altitude
In Westendorf, along Route 209, you proceed first of all via Fleidingalm to Brechhornhaus
(1700m). Past the superbly located Kreuzjöchlsee (route number 210) via Wiegalm and continuing via the singletrail into Spertental. From here Route 203 proceeds along Aschauer Ache
to Kirchberg. Here there are plenty of opportunities to recover from the first stage of the day.
Continue through the town and a short section on the main road to the Fleckalmbahn. We use
this as an ascent aid for the second stage of the day. Upon reaching Ehrenbachhöhe (1802
m), we ride via route number 232 to Hahnenkammstüberl (1668m) and continue to the most
spectacular ski run in the world – the Streif on the famous Hahnenkamm! Something which is
even more impressive for all mountainbikers is the Ehrenbach trail down to Kitzbühel, where
we bring the second day to a close in this dapper little town.

DAY 4 / Kitzbühel – St. Johann in Tirol /approx. 2000 metres altitude
alternative approx. 1000 metres altitude
Today the King of the Mountain stage is on the agenda in the Kitzbühel Alpen! The Kitzbüheler
Horn. Direct from Kitzbühel (800 m) we ride via Route 20a to Hintergrub. From here Bike Trail
Tirol proceeds via Route 255 in steep, tarmac hairpin bends right up to the Kitzbüheler Horn
and Alpenhaus (1670 m). The impressive view from here is best enjoyed during a break on the
guest terrace. Bike Trail Tirol continues through Raintal (No. 254) via Reisenbergköpfl (1362
m) into the valley. Via route number 71, via Fieberbrunn (790 m), we get to St. Jakob im Haus
and continue to St.Ulrich am Pillersee (835 m). In Strass route number 221 proceeds through
Lindtal to Winterstelleralm (1440 m). Continuing on a section where you have to push the bike
you reach Gerstbergalm (1501 m) and route number 263. Adlerspoint Alm is a lovely place to
stop for a bite to eat. Descent via Obingalm to Habach. Along the Grossache we indulge our
calves on cycle route No. 17 and ride to our destination – St. Johann in Tirol.
TIP: Time measurement facility for pro and leisure riders
The hour of truth - whether you are a pro or a leisure rider, compete against
the best riders with the time measurement facility on the Kitzbüheler Horn.
Enjoy the ascent with exact distance signposts up to the 'Wall of Fame'.

BIKE TRAIL TIROL & KITZBÜHELER ALPEN CIRCUIT TOUR
BIKE TRAIL TIROL
Mountain biking pleasure over 800 km
Bike Trail Tirol, at over 800 km, is the longest connected mountain bike
circuit in the Alps. The adjoining routes, which are marked out as connecting
to the main routes, make it possible for you to plan individual routes. On a
total of 32 stages Bike Trail Tirol takes mountain bikers who are hungry for
adventure right through all of Tyrol and of course through all regions in the
Kitzbüheler Alpen! Choose where you want to start from; there is no one start and one end.
It is difficult to deviate from the right trail, since the trail integrated system of signposts
for the trail guides cyclists safely and without any roundabout ways, to where you want to
get to. Bike Trail Tirol signs have been positioned on the existing signposts and are well
visible and easy to read. The stages have been divided up according to length and difficulty
level which means nobody will get onto the wrong route and feel over or under challenged.
The new micro-page www.biketrail. tirol.at provides all the key information, such as route
planners and outlines, an interactive map and detailed map excerpts, route profile and
the route composition, free GPS data for each stage and road books of circuit tours are
available to download.
Kitzbüheler Alpen circuit tour
A beginner‘s tour in the Kitzbüheler Alpen
An easy tour for beginners which is rich in diversity on a selected route through the Kitzbüheler Alpen with charming landscape. Rewarding ascents and descents on the wide gravel
paths guarantee an extra special circuit tour. Just the tour for occasional cyclists who don’t
want to sit in the saddle all day long and who also hold adventure away from the mountain
bike route in high regard.

A very easy tour which is also very suitable for
children. Initially at Achendamm there is a slight

particular attraction is the little aerodrome in St.

refreshments.
An easy tour without any actual climbing which
is suitable for the whole family! The wide, mostly,
tarmac cycle paths (short gravel sections) head
along the banks of the Inn and past the wonderful

the historic towns of Wörgl, Schwaz, Hall and Innsbruck, whose picturesque town centre you really
shouldn’t miss! Suitable for all bikes. A nice alternative: from Innsbruck by train back to Wörgl.

The route around the Kalkstein is suitable for a
sports ride at a high average speed, as well as for
a leisurely training session for a longer ride. Bathing in the fresh Pillersee is only recommended
for the hard-bitten, and is only, to some extent, bearable at the height of summer – but such an inurement is good for body and spirit once in a while.
It is hard to imagine that in the hilly area around
Kitzbühel, as well as Schwarzsee, there are two
other little lakes which lie tucked away. All three
lakes in Kitzbühel are moor lakes; Schwarzsee and
Gieringer Weiher are best suited to bathing. In Vogelsberger Weiher there are more fish, snakes and
crabs splashing about than bathers – it is set in a
wonderful location and you get to enjoy life at the
river bank away from the pulsating life in Kitzbühel.

This tour is for everyone; the variant which uses
the gondola is even suitable for children! From
Brixen proceed continually uphill on a tarmac road
to Gasthof Nieding, which proceeds from the barrier on a gravel path. From Hochbrixen mountain
station at 1300m altitude the route becomes flatter.
Here there is a change to take a detour to Filzalm.
Otherwise the route proceeds directly past the
wonderful Filzalmsee. After this you get to Gasthof
Hochsöll and Hexenwasser adventure realm via
Silleralm.

A quintessential classic in the Kitzbüheler Alpen.
Taking a look at the route profile this altitude path
through the protected landscape area in Spertental
is wonderful to ride and was one of the first officially approved routes in Tyrol. On the trail to Hieslegg a view of Kirchberg’s Sonnberg opens up for
us and when the weather is good we can gaze in
wonderment at the cliff faces of the Wilder Kaiser.
Having reached the highest point we have earned
the descent – the many bends and hairpin bends
are fantastically suited to honing your bend-riding
technique.

Windautal, which has lots of stop-off options, is a
very popular excursion destination for cycle tourers
and mountain bikers. The in part slightly climbing
route proceeds along Windauer Ache, which on hot
days provides a refreshing cool-down. The aroma
of tasty treats from the inns and Alpine lodges
along the edge of the route often reaches your nostrils even when you are still kilometres away from
the finish. (Change to extend the route: Bike route

This lovely tour in the natural gem of Kelchsau provides, thanks to its location, continuous sunshine,
particularly in the afternoon! Past the sawmill, and
following the road, which heads uphill, we pass
many Alpine pastures. During the ride a dreamy
panorama view opens up across long and short
ground. Descent via a good forest path through a
wide Alpine pasture area.

Going around the ski area in Kitzbühel is suitable
for fitness fiends as well as leisure cyclists. At Pass
Thurn you can save a full 580 metres altitude by
taking the Panoramabahn Kitzbüheler Alpen. In any
event we all get to enjoy the stunning panorama of
the Hohe Tauern. With this 2000 metre mountain
we reach the highest elevation of the tour – it‘s
now 29 kilometres uphill. Pure enjoyment! From
Stangenjoch a 3.5 kilometre single trail section
which is difficult to ride on awaits us.

This 63 km road bike circuit takes us through
the Unterinntal to Kramsach. Heading across hilly
terrain provides an excellent opportunity to build
up your fitness. Starting from the Tourist Office
in Hopfgarten we ride on the old main road which
doesn’t have much traffic, to Bruckhäusl, where we
use the railway underpass. We continue to Wörgl
until we reach Steinbruch; taking a right here up a
short incline, through the town of Gasteig we come
to Kirchbichl. From Kirchbichl we ride via Niederbreitenbach to Mariastein. Continuing straight
on we come to Breitenbach after a few wonderfully hilly roads and soon get to Reintalersee and
Krummsee. After a short descent we get to the little
village of Kramsach and to Rattenberg, the smallest
town in Austria. On the Inn Cycle Trail we will
hopefully get a tail-wind on the way to Wörgl, from
where we return to Hopfgarten via Bruckhäusl.

Hans-Peter Obwaller covered the 900 metres altitude to the Hahnenkamm in 36 minutes. If you are
still planning on cycling to Pengelstein then you
ought to take the somewhat more easy climb via
the hermitage. Joking apart – if you have climbed
the Hahnenkamm first, then you’ve already managed the toughest climb. You should definitely take
a break at the start house of the most spectacular
ski run in the world. There is also the option of
'conquering' the Hahnenkamm on the gondola.

On the King of the Mountains stage of the Tour of
Austria the international cycling pros find the Kitzbüheler Horn a challenge. It does happen - a really
fit top rider does have to get off their bike. We take
things a bit easier, so as to have enough energy
for the 22.3% Knödelfleischgraben before reaching our destination - Alpenhaus. Anyone who has
something left in the tank can tackle the last few
kilometres to the summit. At the summit we are
rewarded with a sensational 360° panorama view.
Take care on the descent! Stop every now and then
so your rims don’t overheat.
