The Whale of a Sale, sponsored
by The Friends of Twin Lakes,
raised $12,000 to support the
Benevolent Care and Pastoral
Care programs at Twin Lakes.
Making a Difference Day
Residents and Associates of
Twin Lakes joined with American
Heritage Girls Troop 0025, the
Montgomery Moms, Ursuline
Academy students, Cincinnati Hills
Christian Academy students and
other Montgomery residents in
various projects as part of Making
a Difference Day on Saturday,
October 19th. Projects included
creating cards for a Marine unit,
finishing blankets for Project Linus
and making 200 sandwiches for
the City Gospel Mission.
Peggy Kite: An Advocate
for The Path at Twin Lakes
F
or many, the path to Twin
Lakes and Twin Towers
can seem like a winding road that
eventually leads them home. For
Peggy Kite, it was always an obvious
fit. Peggy has been familiar with the
Montgomery neighborhood since
she was a young girl. She spent
many days with her dear friends
exploring what was then farmland
in the area. Peggy grew up in the
city, living on Madison Rd. for
most of her childhood. After she
married and her family expanded,
they eventually moved to Indian
Hill where Peggy and her husband
took advantage of nature and the landscape, riding
horses and taking in all the outdoors had to offer. Peggy
lived in her home in Indian Hill for 30 years. After her
children moved out and her husband passed away, she
decided that it was time to move.
Peggy became a charter resident of Twin Lakes when
she found a perfect villa, surrounded by the grass and
greenery that she’d grown to love. She especially loved
that her place sits on the Montgomery/Indian Hill line.
Peggy’s longstanding connection to the green space
around Twin Lakes makes her a natural and
passionate advocate for the path project.
She believes in the project wholeheartedly
and thinks that it is a vital component of
Twin Lakes. The path is the connecting
link between North Campus and Central
Campus. It also eliminates the need to get
in the car and drive on Montgomery Road.
“It’s healthy to walk,” says Peggy. “I hope
it will encourage walking among the Twin
Lakes Residents. Walking is so important and
we will have the best resource right here on
campus!” Peggy loves that the path will help
maintain the idyllic and farm-like atmosphere
of the community that she remembers from
her childhood.
We are grateful for the support that Peggy has lent to
the walking path project. She believes that the path is
an important asset to the community around Twin Lakes
as well. “The path is a link that exposes residents of
Montgomery to the beauty of the area and Twin Lakes’
campus,” says Peggy. As an LEC Foundation Board
Member, Peggy has remained faithful to the project and
we are very excited for it to be complete, as we know
that Peggy and many of the Twin Lakes residents will put
it to immediate use!
D
Twin Lakes Path Update
ue to some generous lead gifts recently, construction on Phase
Two of the path began in early October with an estimated
completion date of November 21st. Connecting all of the campuses at
Twin Lakes, the path will be a vital resource for our residents and guests.
Walking and being active is such an important part of a healthy
lifestyle. In fact, the Greater Cincinnati Health Foundation recently
changed their name to Interact for Health, emphasizing action in their
name. We are proud to offer a place for our community to interact for
their health, on the Twin Lakes Path.

A Legacy of
Leadership and
Support – Bill Culp
T
he Life Enriching
Communities (LEC)
Foundation has been blessed for
decades with a tradition of generous
support. We see the benefits of
the gifts to the Foundation around
us at Twin Towers and Twin Lakes
daily. The Foundation’s Board
allocates funds for special projects
and reinvests them into the
communities. LEC’s Foundation is a
substantial one, and for it to operate
properly, it requires a dedicated and
capable Board.
Bill Culp’s relationship with the
organization has spanned almost
30 years. He’s been a consultant, a
Board Member and is currently the
Board Chair for the Life Enriching
Communities Foundation. When Bill
first became a member of the Board,
there was a strong clergy influence.
“This was definitely appropriate,”
said Culp. “We needed to make sure
that we were growing with the times
and looking to serve the United
Methodist Church and other religious
persons.” With Bill’s knowledge
and direction, the Board was able
to expand the Foundation’s focus,
while maintaining the core United
Methodist values of the organization.
Culp likes to call himself somewhat
of an agent of change and he was
able to bridge the gap between
the United Methodist leaders and
the businessmen on the Board.

Therapy Suite
To Offer
Innovative
Rehab
Approaches
T
he new Therapy Suite at
Twin Towers is nearing
completion and when it is finished,
it will be one of the premier
rehabilitation facilities in the area! The Suite is designed to maximize
the rehab potential of Twin Towers’
residents and individuals from the
greater community.
“Ultimately, the focus of the Board
and the LEC Foundation goes far
beyond the residential aspect and
the whole organization thinks far
more broadly than it did 30 years
ago,” Culp says. “We recognize that
we have to be flexible to serve our
residents today.”
The Life Enriching
Communities Foundation
is grateful for the
leadership and direction
that Bill Culp provides. The
knowledge and perspective
that he brings to the Board is
essential to the Foundation’s
continued growth. “We are blessed
by Bill’s continued support and
leadership in making Life Enriching
Communities exceptional due
to his devotion to serving and
guiding us,” says Molly Talbot,
Life Enriching Communities Vice
President of Development. Bill
Culp is a blessing to Life Enriching
Communities and we thank him for
his service!

The Therapy Suite will include
an Activities of Daily Living
room, which creates a home-like
environment where individuals
can practice getting in and out of a
real bed, as opposed to a hospital
bed or treatment mat table. It also
features private treatment rooms
for those individuals that
need more personalized
treatment or prefer more
privacy.
The Therapy Suite will have
some of the most cutting edge
equipment, including treadmills
with heart monitors, recumbent
stepper, elliptical, and much more!
“With the new equipment, we
will be able to expand our market,
which we’re very excited about,”
said Chrissy Susshine, Community
Rehab Director at Twin Towers.
The Therapy Suite should “open for
business” later this year.

Chapel Restoration Project
at Twin Towers
T
he legacy of Twin Towers’ historically greatest
benefactors, Obed and Amanda Wilson,
continues to make significant positive impact on the
campus yet today. What began nearly 90 years ago with
the donation of the Wilson’s beloved art collection has
today opened the door for a much-needed renovation
and restoration of one of Twin Towers’ centerpiece
attractions, the Wilson Chapel.
The latest chapter in the Wilson’s evolving and sustained
support of Twin Towers began a few years ago with the
recognition that the art collection was of such value that
it could not be properly cared for within the confines of
the campus’ Art Gallery. Rather than risk the collections’
security and safety, not to mention its significant value,
the decision was made to allow the collection to be sold
and the proceeds used to benefit Twin Towers and its
residents in yet-to-be-determined ways.
This process culminated this past May when one of the
paintings in the collection, Yosemite by artist William
Keith, surprised art experts with an unexpected sale
price of $625,000, sale proceeds that exceeded experts’
expectations set in the range of $70,000-90,000. This
unexpected blessing excited the campus and opened the
door for the commencement of a project to restore and
modernize the Chapel to keep it sound and worthy of the
Wilson’s legacy of support.
“The Chapel is considered one of the true treasures
on our campus, and is regarded by many residents as
the true center of campus activity,” said Jim Lay, Twin
Towers’ Executive Director. “This opportunity to invest a
portion of these unexpected proceeds in such a vital part
of our campus life was something we were thrilled to
undertake.”
Discussions of the specifics of this restoration have
begun, but as yet have not progressed to a point where
specific design features, other than core structural
requirements, have been identified. It is important to
note that the process of evaluating the key elements
of this restoration and renovation already involves key
resident leaders, both formal and spiritual, working with
Lay and other LEC leaders to ensure that
the investments made reflect
the spirit of the Wilson legacy,
the importance of Twin Towers’
Christian and Methodist heritage
as well as the evolving breadth
of spiritual roots that are an
integral part of our present and
future campus population.
Left: The Wilson Chapel
today; Right: The rear of
the Wilson Chapel in 1909.
2014 will be an exciting year on
the Twin Towers campus, as this
new Chapel design emerges and
becomes a reality among many
other developments. Be watching
for more news as this process
unfolds.
