How to REGISTER
What is
French Social Security?
Student Social Security is a "mandatory and contributory"
scheme for those under the age of 28 and studying for more
than 3 months in a higher education institute.
It covers on average 70 % of your healthcare expenses.
It validates your enrolment in higher education.
For the 2014/2015 academic year, participation in the
scheme cost € 213.
How to join the scheme ?
When you enrol, you need to specify your "Social Security payment centre",
indicating Vittavi - Réseau emeVia on your hard copy or internet form.

Proof of your participation in the Student Social Security
scheme provided by your education institute.
Full bank details (RIB).
A copy of your valid residence permit (notification to
collect the permit or acknowledgement of your application
accepted).
Your certificate of entitlement is proof of
your eligibility for social security coverage
and notably third-party payment (you
have no healthcare expenses to pay upfront).
Vittavi will send you your Vitale card.
Your declaration of a choice of doctor.
Your birth certificate.

The Vitale card
The Vitale card speeds up the
reimbursement process and reduces
the paperwork involved. Show the card
whenever you attend a medical consultation.
Vittavi will arrange for your Vitale card to be made. A form
will be sent to your home address which you will need to fill in
and return along with a passport photograph and a photocopy
of your passport/ID card.
It takes at least one month for the card to be issued and sent
to the address you provided.
We strongly recommend that you take out private health
insurance to obtain maximum reimbursement.
Ask your Vittavi agency for details.
Moreover, when you take out private health insurance, you
will be given a third-party payment card. This card means that
with certain healthcare professionals you do not have to pay
any upfront expenses.

This card is not a payment card.
It enables Vittavi to process your claims quicker and to
reimburse you within 48 hours.
If your definitive Social Security number cannot be
issued straightaway, use the certificate of entitlement
which you have been given and which provides proof
that you are covered.
* This breakdown does not take into
account any copayment which may
remain depending on the treatment
pathway.

Please note that Third-Party Liability insurance is mandatory.
It covers you against any injury or damage you may cause to
a third party. Likewise, if you have a car, a two-wheel motor
vehicle and/or accommodation, you must have insurance.
Vittavi offers relevant insurance policies at reduced prices.
Heathcare expenses
In France, you can choose your doctor. The cost of treatment
is fixed by Social Security.
Cost of consultations in France : €23 for a general practitioner
(doctor), and from €23 for a specialist (dermatologist,
gynaecologist, ophthalmologist). Your social security centre
will reimburse 70 % of this amount, less a €1 flat-rate
contribution, i.e. €15.10 for a consultation with a GP.
If you want more comprehensive
reimbursement, you need to take
out private health insurance.
