Within VIVA the aim of the PMO team is essentially to drive
project execution and monitor project performance and
visibility by introducing project management standards.
The overall long term strategic plan for the PMO was divided
into three stages. The 1st stage required the PMO team to
amalgamate various reports they received for the numerous
projects that were conducted within the sectors in VIVA into a
standard reporting structure presented to the Senior Management.

The 2nd phase which the PMO are currently doing includes
reporting and monitoring of VIVA’s corporate and noncorporate projects, gathering objective evidence for the sub
initiatives and major milestones. This will give greater visibility
to the Senior Management highlighting any potential issues
before they become problems.
The 3rd phase and future direction for PMO department will be
to promote efficiencies within the VIVA organization that will
add to the company’s profit. Increasingly, telecommunication
industry worldwide is being undermined by new technologies,
for example VOIP applications such as Skype and Viber
which allows people to make free phone calls from anywhere
in world as long as they have a decent internet connection.
In addition, many national governments now view
telecommunication as an essential utility much like gas,
electricity and water. They have enacted numerous legislations
limiting the charges a telecommunications company can
levy on their customers. To maintain profit margins, VIVA
needs to cut costs and promote innovation from within. The
PMO department can facilitate this transition by promoting
economies of scale, reducing duplication and leveraging
resources such as people and technology. This will be our
next challenge within the Corporate PMO.

continuity across the organization.
