Recipe Guide A Collection of Recipes For Your Child with Food Allergies What is Neocate Nutra? The first and only hypoallergenic, amino acid-based semi-solid medical food. It contains essential vitamins and minerals to promote balanced nutrition in children and infants over 6 months of age with cow’s milk allergy, multiple food protein intolerance or gastrointestinal conditions. Neocate Nutra should provide a spoonable consistency and is not intended for bottle or tube feed. Other foods or formula must be consumed for a complete diet. 2 Neocate Nutra Recipe Guide Neocate Nutra is: • Semi-solid medical food • Smooth, spoonable consistency • Hypoallergenic • Made with 100% non-allergenic amino acids • Milk protein- and gluten-free • High in calcium • Good source of vitamin D and iron • Free from artificial flavors, colors and preservatives Directions for Preparation & Use Total daily intakes for children and infants will vary depending on the age, bodyweight, and medical condition of the child. The suggested serving size is 8 scoops (37 g) of powder plus 2 fl oz of water to give a spoonable consistency. Other foods or formula must be consumed for a complete diet. • Wash hands thoroughly and clean the preparation area. • Fill the scoop provided with Neocate Nutra and level off with a clean, dry knife. Do not press the powder into the scoop. • Add the recommended number of scoops of Neocate Nutra into a clean bowl. • Gradually add the required amount of water while stirring with a clean spoon. Mix to a spoonable consistency. • Neocate Nutra should be prepared immediately prior to feeding. Any prepared product remaining should be discarded if not used within 1 hour. • To achieve an appropriate spoonable consistency for infants starting on solids, Neocate Nutra can be altered by adding more or less water as required. A smaller serving size can be prepared by adding 1 fl oz of water to 4 scoops of powder. For further instructions on preparation, see product labels. and only amino acid-based semi-solid acid-based med ical food medical 3 General Guidelines/Ideas for Cooking with Neocate Nutra • Neocate Nutra can be added to cooked foods but should not be added to very hot foods or be exposed to direct heat (i.e. it should not be boiled, baked, etc). Do not warm prepared product. • Prepared Neocate Nutra or Neocate Nutra as a dry powder can be added to cooked foods just prior to consuming. Let food cool to eating temperature before adding Neocate Nutra. • Water or other fluids should be given with or after foods containing Neocate Nutra powder. • The amount of Neocate Nutra that can be added to a recipe will vary depending on the age of the child, the type of food and the size of the portion. • Add diced fruit to give Neocate Nutra a new texture. • Prepared Neocate Nutra can be frozen or chilled to make cold treats. For an ice cream consistency, freeze for 3 hours. For a popsicle consistency, freeze overnight. • Try mixing Nutra with fruit juices or applesauce and freezing it to make popsicles or ice cream. • Mix Nutra with any tolerated fruit juices and chill in the refrigerator to make a fruity yogurt. • Prepared product can be stored in the freezer or refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Once given to the child, Neocate Nutra should be used within 1 hour. Nutra Apple Milk-Free Ice Cream • • • • • 8 scoops (37 g) Neocate Nutra powder 3 Tbsp applesauce, unsweetened 2 fl oz water ¼ tsp ground cinnamon ½ tsp sugar (optional) Blend ingredients. Place in a container and freeze for approximately 3 hours. Serve and enjoy. Freeze overnight and serve. Pour into container and enjoy. Add a straw for fun. Blend until smooth. Add the mashed bananas and sunflower seed butter. Mix well, chill and serve. Mix well. Add applesauce to mixture and allow to cool slightly. Add six scoops of Neocate Nutra powder to oatmeal and applesauce. Add a small amount of water if necessary. Serve and enjoy!
