When Amy graduated from college in 1997, she was excited to start her
professional career. One of her first priorities was choosing a financial institution
and opening a checking account. What seemed simple at the time had become
rather daunting. She was disappointed to learn that many financial institutions
required a minimum monthly balance for their checking accounts. “I was just
starting out, so it was important for me to find a more cost-effective option,”
Amy says. A family member suggested she consider DCCU. Not only did she
find that DCCU offered a variety of checking products, she was excited to
learn that she didn’t need a minimum to open the account, and that there
were no monthly fees or monthly balance requirements. “I didn’t realize how
valuable truly free checking was until I began my relationship with DCCU,”
Amy says.
Fast forward ten years, Amy and her husband found themselves needing
to expand their home in order to make room for their second child that
was on the way. They already had made quite an investment in their
home, completing many significant updates over the years including
hardwood floors, updated appliances, and new counter tops. While they
had considered buying a new house, they really liked the location of their
Verona home, particularly the school district and close proximity to family.
“We knew that this was the home we wanted to stay in to raise our family,
so we decided to add on,” Amy says. The renovation solved their need
for more space, adding the square footage they needed to comfortably
accommodate their growing family and allowing them to remain in the
family home they had grown to love. “DCCU took the time to get to
know our needs and then they went above and beyond to make it
happen.”
Today, Amy reflects on her nearly twenty-year relationship with
DCCU that began with a need for free checking. “Free checking is as
important to me now as it was then. It proved to be a solid foundation
for my financial future,” she says. In the years since becoming a
member, DCCU has been Amy’s partner as she has grown her family,
advanced her career, and built a home for her family to live in for
many years to come. “DCCU has met me at each important stage
of my life,” Amy says, “I am fortunate to be a part of DCCU, they
have done so much for me over the years and for that I am grateful.”
“DCCU has met me
at each important
stage of my life.”

Where can I use my chip card?
Use your chip card at the exact same merchants you do now— by
inserting the card into card terminals that are chip enabled or swiping
your card at merchant locations that have not yet switched to chipenabled card terminals. You can also continue to use your card as you
did before for online payments, telephone payments, and at ATMs.
Can I keep my old card instead?
No, your current card is being discontinued, so to enjoy uninterrupted
service, it’s important to activate and begin using your new DCCU card
as soon as it arrives.

Insert your card into the slot in the
bottom of the card reader – do
not remove your card until the
transaction is complete.
How do chip cards work?
Card data is stored on an integrated circuit through a chip, rather than
a magnetic stripe. Cards are inserted into a card reader rather than
swiping them as in the past. Our chip cards will also have stripes for
additional compatibility. During the transaction process, a unique, onetime code is created to approve the transaction, helping to reduce fraud
during in-person transactions.
Are chip cards more secure?
Yes. Chip-enabled cards communicate by creating unique transaction
codes that cannot be duplicated and prevents scammers from
copying user information and creating fraudulent cards. These are not
contactless payment cards and cannot be scanned from your wallet.
Please visit mydccu.com for more information.
1
What are chip-enabled cards?
Chip-enabled cards have an embedded chip on the front, which securely
transfers your account data to merchants through a chip-enabled card
reader. Both the chip and the transaction are heavily encrypted, making
it more difficult for your account to be compromised.
Follow the on-screen prompts, and
sign for your purchase, if required.
3
Remove your card when the
transaction is complete.
Will my rewards points transfer?
Yes, your points will automatically be transferred over to your new card.
Will my rates or fees change in any way?
No, the interest rates and other credit card terms outlined in your
Cardholder Agreement will remain unchanged.
