The Institution of Engineers (India) Roorkee Local Centre organized a Lecture on “Lecture on
Vedic Science for Environmental Purification and Sustainable Development on Friday,
August 28, 2015. Dr. B.R.Gurjar, Past Chairman, IEI RLC, Professor in Civil Engineering, IIT
Roorkee and Head CTRANS, introduced the speaker and mentioned the importance of the
subject. Prof. Rajesh Chandra, FIE, Chairman, RLC welcomed the speaker, the audience
and briefed about the subject.
Er. Shyamal Ghosh, an Electrical Engineer with four decades of experience in the field of
Industrial Air Pollution Control Technology in India and abroad was the Chief Guest & Key
Note Speaker. In his lecture, he expressed that Environment Purification in the Vedic way
takes place through chanting of slokas properly in Sanskrit language and performing yajna
as per the directions given in the vedas. Energy transmission in the cosmos is through
waves. Solar energy reaches us through the solar waves. Rhythmic Chanting of Vedic
Slokas in Sanskrit as well as universal sound of the auspicious Conch Shell, Bell, Drum etc.
create waves of different patterns so as to intercept the bad effects / waves in the incoming
solar waves blocking their damaging effects, while allowing the good effects of the solar /
cosmic waves to reach the earth surface. The offerings made in the sacred fire during yagna
creates antiseptic atmosphere in the environment which help us in breathing purified healthy
air. The design of the kunda / fire place as reverse pyramid inside the earth surface is made
in such a way that the requirement of oxygen is minimum so as to minimize the production of
carbon dioxide and the fire remains alive for a longer period. Ghee offered in the sacred fire
vaporises immediately spreading very fine particles in the surrounding environment (spinning
at very high speed) which work as god particles agglomerating all the toxic gases and dust
particles in the surrounding environment so as to bring them down to earth by gravity.
Mantras and Rites framed and prescribed by sages of the past were not born of amateur
enthusiasm. They are the results of wisdom and actual experience.
Scientist M.K. Goyal from NEERI Nagpur visited the Centre and also expressed his views on
Environment on Air Pollution Control. Mrs. Shyamali Ghosh presented lecture on Vedic
science. Prof A.K. Pachauri Deptt. of Earth Science, IIT Roorkee, spoke about innovations in

along with delegates and students. According to him the seminar was organized in
coordination with Institute of Research development & Training (IRDT), Technical Education
Uttarakhand & sponsored by with Spoken Tutorial project, IIT, Mumbai through National
Mission of Education, Ministry of HRD and Govt. India. Some more themes were also taken.
Er. Akhilesh Verma, Honorary secretary/ Organizing Secretary of the centre stressed upon
ICT revolution through Spoken Tutorial Project, MHRD, G.O.I., IIT Mumbai. The Spoken
Tutorial Project is about facilitating Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) like Linux, Scilab,
LaTeX, PHP & MySQL, Java, C/C++, Library/Office etc. via an easy Video tool - Spoken
Tutorials by IIT Mumbai. Any college, Engg. College, Polytechnic Teachers & Students can
easily use FOSS and also get certificates. This just depends on the number of computers &
laptops, webcam & Internet available. If the participants wish to appear the test they must do
so during seminar or a month after the seminar. Today, SMEs and Govt. departments are
moving to Open Source Software like Linux OS. Faculties, Students with this knowledge will
be very much useful in the job market. They can also become entrepreneurs and use Open
Source Software in their businesses, and save money in comparison to commercial software.
The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has also made compulsory for the
Polytechnics & Engineering Colleges to make provisions of at least 20 nos of application Softwares, 3 nos. of Legal System Soft-wares & one Library Management Software. FOSS is a
legal one. After the seminar the faculties & students will be able to use FOSS. The
polytechnics can also get internet connection at subsidized rates from BSNL under National
Mission of Education Program, GOI.
Brig. S.P. Agarwal as Chief Guest addressed on the theme of technical sessions. Innovations
are essential to raise productivity and enable sustained growth. Applications of ICT are suited
to both growth and inclusion. Inclusive growth is a major Indian objective. The two can go
together if inclusion is of the type that facilitates growth. ICT helped India catch the
outsourcing wave. But this largely created opportunities for a skilled elite. One reason that can
be attributed to that is poor governance and delivery of public services such as health,
education and infrastructure. It handicaps those who cannot afford costly private substitutes
for these services. But ICT can itself help in reducing the cost of some of these public
services.
Guest of Honor Er. R.P. Gupta Additional Director, Technical Education, Uttarakhand spoke
about necessity of ICT through Free & open source software. According to him E-delivery can
improve transparency and governance as it reduces bureaucracy and corruption. The mobile
is an example of a technology product whose falling costs made it accessible to all income
classes. Mobile telephony has been one of India’s successes and is not restricted to the elite.
Different services like weather forecast for farmers, e-portal to help them to enhance their
production through scientific inputs, online booking of railway tickets etc. are some of the most
innovative products introduced in India for the benefit of common man. Further innovation in
an enabling environment can make substantial contributions to Indian growth.
