About TRaG - Stefanie Trojan
About TRaG We are Snežana Golubović, Stefanie Trojan and Barak Reiser, the founders of TRaG, we are Serbian, German, and Israeli artists based in Frankfurt am Main. The word “trag” means in Serbian a lane, a track ; TRaG is a platform to create works, it consist of the three performers but other participants are welcome to join for larger scale of works. After several years of friendship and individual work as performance artists we decided to try to perform also together. This came from a need to exchange thoughts, ideas, to experiment and create works that none of us can perform bye our selves. In Summer 2012 Trojan and Reiser created the first two works – in them duality was the important value. In “Bo‐Gehen” pedestrians, who were passing bye, were offered bye the two artists a spontaneous chance to jump rope during their lunch brake. This was done on three different locations along Frankfurt’s Mainzer Landstrasse. The work was repeated three times at each location, between 12 am and 1pm, in a one‐week interval. The second work was “Walk#1: 2 Suitcases” a long walk in which Trojan and Reiser were rolling two similar black suitcases. The start was at Frankfurt Airport’s entrance, and ends after walking through the forest, passing few neighbourhoods, and walking above the Main River direction Frankfurt’s Central Train Station. As a trio following works were made since 2013 when Snežana Golubović has joined. Defining the notion of time and using the shape of a circle in our works, we made a concept for a serial of works titled “circle”. “U‐H‐R” was the first work, creating a clock around a temporary traffic circle. Each of us was moving after specific time. The first one, wearing white, was moving every five minutes, the second one, wearing red, moved every 10 minutes, the third one, wearing black, moved every 15 minutes. We were standing on the same spot in the start of the hour, and again after 30 minutes. Counting time and repetition was the base for the work “Like…” were we were sitting on the stone bench around a rounded fountain pool, and standing up every five minutes in order to drink water and show the time. We were walking 17 times in one hour around a large scale rounded building in the work „Colosseo“. In contrast to “Colosseo”, we took a challenge walking 1 meter pro hour and even half a meter pro hour, in a square in the works titled: “2r ∙π = 1h” ; “2r ∙π = 2h” The largest scale, concerning space was creating a large circle through out the city of Frankfurt in the work “Billy System”, where the group have exchanged books between five quarters’ Bookshelves in Frankfurt. As in a circle, the start and end of this work was in the same location. A track, a trail, which our group’s name suggests, is motivation for our upcoming works. Not having a specific start or end, we wish to seek for new traces, new ideas, new performances, new challenges and new participants: fellow artists and/ or people from the audience. TRaG: Snežana Golubović, Stefanie Trojan, Barak Reiser List of Works: Bo‐Gehen Stefanie Trojan and Barak Reiser 2012, video, along the Mainzer Landstrasse, Frankfurt a.M The work offered pedestrians, who were passing by, the spontaneous chance to jump rope during their lunch brake. Three different locations were chosen along the Mainzer Landstrasse, one of Frankfurt ’s busiest streets. The work was repeated three times at each location, between 12 and 1pm, at a one week interval. Walk#1: 2 Suitcases Stefanie Trojan and Barak Reiser 2012, video, a walk between Frankfurt Airport and Frankfurt Central Train Staion, A walk, which started at Frankfurt Airport Terminal 2. Each of the performers is rolling a one full black suitcase through the forest, Niederrad, Sachsenhausen, on the bridge over the Main to Westhafen, Gutleut till Frankfurt Central Station. U‐H‐R Snežana Golubović, Stefanie Trojan and Barak Reiser 2013, video: 60 min., Frankfurt a.M A temporary traffic island, made up of cement blocks, was the chosen location for this work. This circular area around the traffic island is used to represent the dial of a clock, or Uhr (U‐H‐R) in German. This one hour work has three performers. Each one of the performers is dressed in a different color (in this version: black, white and red) and moves about the dial like the hands of a clock. More specifically, each performer represents a different element of time, similar to the three hands on a clock ' s dial. However, in this case, the performers don ' t represent the standard time increments (seconds, minutes and hours), but rather increments of five, ten, and fifteen minutes, all represented by different distances. As a result, the three performers will only stand together (at the same point) twice on the make‐shift dial, once after 30 min., and again after 60 min. Circle#2: Like… Snežana Golubović, Stefanie Trojan and Barak Reiser 2013, video, Alte Oper sq. Frankfurt a.M The three protagonists sit on the edge of a round fountain. Every 5 minutes they all grab the bottle near their feet, open it, stand up and drink water. Circle#3: Colosseo Snežana Golubović, Stefanie Trojan and Barak Reiser 2014, video: 60 min., Walther‐von‐Cronberg‐Platz, Frankfurt a.M A one hour walk around a round building. How did the people manage to tear down the walls of Jericho? How long did it take to built up a arena? How often does it take to walk around a Colosseo in one hour? Circle#4: Billy System Snežana Golubović, Stefanie Trojan and Barak Reiser 2014, video, several neighborhoods in Frankfurt a.M A work in which public bookcases change their social flavour by altering its content. The work created and documents an exchange between public bookcases located in various neighbourhood of Frankfurt. The repetitive action involves removing the contents of one cabinet (public bookcase) in order to transfer its complete contents to a bordering neighbourhood’s public bookcase. Following its removal the contents are then exchanged with that of the previous public bookcase. This invokes a movement within an area of a city, in this instance it was a circular movement, beginning and ending at the same place, same public bookcase. Circle#5: 2r ∙π = 1h ; 2r ∙π = 2h Snežana Golubović, Stefanie Trojan and Barak Reiser 2014, video: 60 min., Walther‐von‐Cronberg‐Platz ,Frankfurt a.M Walking a circle of 64 meters in 1 hour Walking a circle of 64 meters in 2 hours Snežana Golubović was born in the year The Rolling Stones
