A Message from our Pastor…
The Fourth Week of Advent
The “O” Antiphons
As we approach with joyful anticipation the celebration of the
birth of the Messiah (The Anointed) and the conclusion of the
Advent Season, I would like to explain a Roman Catholic
tradition, the O Antiphons, which are sung or recited at
Vespers (Evening Prayer) before and after the Magnificat
from December 17 through December 23. Each antiphon is a
name of Christ mentioned in Sacred Scripture. They are:
December 17: O Sapientia (O Wisdom)
December 18: O Adonai (O Lord)
December 19: O Radix Jesse (O Root of Jesse)
December 20: O Clavis David (O Key of David)
December 21: O Oriens (O Dayspring)
December 22: O Rex Gentium (O King of the nations)
December 23: O Emmanuel (O With Us is God)
Emmanuel, Rex, Oriens, Clavis, Radix, Adonai, Sapientia the Latin words ero cras are formed to mean “Tomorrow, I
will come.” Therefore, the Lord Jesus, whose coming we have
prepared for in Advent, and whom we have addressed in these
seven Messianic titles, now speaks to us, “Tomorrow, I will
come.” So the O Antiphons not only bring intensity to our
Advent preparation, but bring it to a joyful conclusion.
Sunday, December 21
Fellowship Coffee Hour after the 9:00 a. m. and 10:30 a. m.
Masses in the Chapel Auditorium. All are welcome to come
down and enjoy coffee, juice and donuts and a special
Christmas craft for the children.
Challenge Club meeting at 6:00 p. m. in the pastoral center.
Challenge is a club for girls ages 10-14 to grow in virtue,
friendship, and their Catholic faith. All girls are welcome, and
registrations are ongoing. For information, call Susan Sahler
908-953-9133.
Walk to Bethlehem begins at St. James at 4PM in the
Church. Take some time to enjoy the beauty of the real
meaning of Christmas as we walk to four local churches to
sing and worship.
Monday, December 22
Rosary in Gratitude at 7:30pm in the Chapel. All are
welcome.
Wednesday, December 24
The parish office will be closed.
No 7:00 am Mass.

7th Annual Saint James Men of Charity
Chili and Chowder Cook-off for Charity
Ticket are available for the 7th Annual Saint James Men of
Charity Chili and Chowder Cook-off for Charity. The event
will be held on Saturday January 24, 2015 in the Saint James
School Gymnasium at 6:00 pm. Tickets are $40. Attendees
(adults only) will have a chance to taste many varieties of
chili and chowder, and to vote on their favorites. Beer, Wine
and soft drinks will be available. A tricky tray is also planned.
Admission price includes all food and drink. Proceeds from
this event to Benefit Acts of Kindness and service both inside
and outside the Parish Community. Babysitting will NOT be
offered at this year’s event.
