An Intergenerational Mission Opportunity
to the Foothills of Appalachian North Carolina
Dear Friend,
We are providing this booklet to give you an overview of our annual mission trip
to the Appalachian region of North Carolina. This intergenerational trip is family
friendly as participants of all ages engage in the ministry of service. We hope that
you consider joining us as we continue to witness God’s presence in Pittsburgh and
beyond.
Each year there is a chosen theme for the week. This year’s theme is “faithbuilt” based
on Hebrews 11:1-3. The evening devotions and daily experiences will encourage
participants to wrestle with the theme. I expect this trip to restore us and provide
opportunities for us to grow closer to our Lord Jesus Christ as we share His name in
word and deed.
The cost of the trip is $200 per person, with a maximum of $500 per family. The
cost covers housing (air-conditioned dormitory) and food. Transportation is not
provided, but we encourage participants to car-pool. Please refer to the Sunday
bulletins and our electronic Mini-Mouse for registration dates and important team
meetings.
In this booklet, you will find pertinent information for our North Carolina journey.
If you choose to join us, I encourage you to use this booklet as a packing check-off
sheet. In arriving to Mars Hill, you may check in as early as 4:00 p.m. on Sunday,
July 13, and we ask that you arrive no later than 7:00 p.m. for our opening worship
service.
I am looking forward to this time of work, fun, and fellowship. Many have been
blessed through this mission. Remain prayerful for what God has in store for our
lives and for the lives of our neighbors. Feel free to contact me with any questions
you may have.
In Christ,

YOUTH SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK (6th–12th Grade)
In addition to youth working alongside adults at project sites, throughout the week,
there will be specific programming and outings for youth (those entering sixth
grade through twelfth grade). This includes morning devotionals at breakfast,
evening recap and game time led by the senior high youth, and a hiking trip from
the evening of Tuesday, July 15, to Wednesday, July 16.
MARS HILL CHILDREN’S MINISTRY (Pre-School–5th Grade)
The children’s ministry team at Mars Hill is led by a group of Christian educators
representing each of the participating churches.
Each day starts with gathering time activities for all of the children (pre-schoolers
through those entering fifth grade). Our mornings are spent in a Vacation Bible
School (VBS) format, where we hear stories, enjoy a time of singing, participate in
a variety of game activities, and create artwork or a craft. Lunchtime is a group
activity, with the adult leaders taking all of the children to the campus cafeteria
at a scheduled time each day. We start our afternoon quietly with a movie, rest, or
reading time depending on the ages of the children. The remainder of the afternoon
is set aside for activities like visits to worksites, service projects on the campus, a
swim in the community pool, and other outdoor adventures.
Children’s ministry begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 5:00 p.m. Because this is a
long day for leaders and children alike, we ask that you pick up your children no later
than 5:00 p.m. in the lobby of Bailey.
