Our summer enrichment programs are designed to keep the fun in learning, under the tutelage of the best instructors and certified professional teachers in the field. With new program partners this year, we are thrilled to offer: • Terrific summer science experiences such as Zany Zoology and Crime Scene Investigators • Intriguing conceptual learning programs like LEGO Robotics and Math and Art Connections • Interesting reading, writing, and comprehension experiences such as Literacy through Puppetry, Mandarin and Fun, and Creating Your Own Imaginarium • Athletics and physical skills development experiences, such as Touchdown Football and FUN-damentals Basketball • For those business-savvy students, we’ve also added a Junior Achievers Business Entrepreneurs all day camp – NEW this year! Learners from Kindergarten to Grade 12 will enjoy our learning-based, fun-filled enrichment programs, which all integrate “energy breaks” to ensure physical activity is always included. Those staying through the lunch break will be supervised by our staff of excellent student helpers who are on site to ensure the fun, safety and enjoyment of everyone. We encourage ONLINE registration as this is given priority over other forms of registering. The registration process is incomplete until an online Waiver Form has been completed and signed by a camper’s parent or guardian and returned to the West Vancouver School District Summer Enrichment Programs department. Please complete the waiver form and initial the photo release. Our Summer Enrichment Programs will motivate your child to never stop learning in our safe, positive, fun, and interactive summer program environment. Online: www.sd45.bc.ca Payment types accepted: Paypal or credit cards Where Learning Never Stops! All of the programs include supervised activity breaks for the students to enjoy. Those who sign up for two half-day camps in the same location during the same week will be supervised by our student helpers during the halfhour break between programs. Please just let us know if this applies to you. We recommend all students be prepared for their summer programs by bringing the following: • • • • • Water Sun protection (hat, sunscreen) Comfortable clothing Running shoes for sports and recreation Smiles If any additional materials are required, a list will be provided on the first day of the program. First Day of Summer Program: Please arrive 20 minutes prior to program start time on the first day of your child’s program(s) for orientation. You may submit a signed Waiver Form to the instructor on the first day, if you have not already done so. West Vancouver School District must have a signed Waiver Form before a child is allowed to participate in any program. This can be completed on or before the first day of the summer program. New International students and/or agents representing International students who are planning to enroll in West Vancouver School District #45 for the first time in September 2011, please contact our International Programs office at (604) 981-1158 before registering in a Summer Enrichment program. We will explore the world of insects, arachnids, reptiles, mammals and much more. Scientists will join us as we travel through the rainforest, oceans, deserts, and the Arctic, to explore some of the most exciting, living creatures on earth to see what makes them unique. Check out how particular animals are able to survive and thrive through their incredible adaptations. The scientists will even bring in a few specimens - a sea horse, star fish and a cockroach! Our young interns will examine the five senses and make a model of an eye and ear drum. Germs are explored as our medical students will learn how to keep the body strong and healthy. During each session, we will be looking at a new story by different authors and their illustrators such as, ‘The Lonely Inukshuk’ and ‘The Subway Mouse’. Students will develop their knowledge about the different literary terms associated with storytelling, as well as writing their own story. We will also be creating art in the style of each illustrator. At the end of the week, these young authors and artists will display their works at the ‘Imaginarium Book and Art Show’ for all parents and friends to attend. This course is geared for a Grade 3 reading level, or as a Grade 4 course refresher. Claire Robinson – WVSD Teacher Laughing through learning is the best way to retain information you’ve just read. This reading comprehension program will help kids learn to digest and understand words through vivid storytelling, telling jokes, sharing rhymes and enjoying word rhythms. Children will have an opportunity to read and listen to a variety of amusing literature, poetry, stories, cartoons, and reflect through art and writing. All-Star FutureSmart Instructors This school-specific program is designed to ease the transition for students moving from Grade 7 into Grade 8, or for new transfer students at a new school. This dynamic, inter-active program, designed by former students for new students, provides a great start in a new school. Program elements include geography of the campus, getting your textbooks, locker assignments, bus schedules, practicing your locker combination, joining school clubs and teams; how to get involved on the student council, school traditions, organizational tips and tricks, and a ton more! Peer students help the new students learn the ropes of their new school. This program is sure to take away the anxiety caused by the first-day jitters. Byte Camp Instructors Digital World Lego Robotics Imagine, discover, create and build, using LEGO Dacta products. The program is designed as a progression of skills, from beginner to intermediate, to advanced levels. This amazing week of discovery will encourage the students to work with LEGO Dacta products, Macintosh computers and programming LEGO Dacta creations.
