Dear Parent:
Welcome to the Glanford Middle School Music Program! Your child has been offered an
opportunity to be involved in one of the fastest growing and one of the finest quality Music
Programs in Victoria.
The first step is for the elementary school students to express an interest in being involved
next year and take this letter and application home. The next step is yours.
Please fill in the attached application form and return your completed form to classroom
teachers within the week. We have attached an information sheet which will answer many of
your questions about how the instruments will be chosen. For those students interested in
joining Band or Strings, decisions on instruments will be made in the fall, following a
comprehensive look at all the instruments with the opportunity to try them all out.
The music program is an excellent transition tool for students moving into the Middle School.
It provides an excellent peer group for students to be involved in and starts the process of
“involvement”, which helps students find social and academic success in the “exemplary middle
school model”. The Music Program teaches students organizational skills and the importance
of investment in oneself through individual practice to achieve excellence. It promotes the
importance of teamwork and helps students learn the importance of peer support and student
leadership.
This is a unique opportunity for students in the public school system and should be taken
advantage of by every student coming to Glanford Middle School.
