Keeping the culture alive…
Thillana - The final section is a pure dance (nritta) when the virtuosity of the music is
reflected in the complex footwork and captivating poses of the dancer. It is a joyous ecstacy of
scintellating rhythm, varied tala patterns and sculpturous poses. The adavus are composed in
vilambita, madhyama and dhrutalays. In five jatis according to the melodic note of th eragas
Tilalana is divided into 5 parts.

कराग्रे वसते लक्ष्मिः करमध्ये सरस्वति ।
करमूले तु गोविन्दः प्रभाते करदर्शनम् ॥

Karamuule Tu Govindah Prabhaate Karadarshanam ||
Meaning:
1: At the Top of the Hand (i.e. Palm) Dwell Devi Lakshmi and at the
Middle of the Hand Dwell Devi Saraswati,
2: At the Base of the Hand Dwell Sri Govinda; Therefore one should Look
at one's Hands in the Early Morning and contemplate on Them.

Sky, Whose Colour is like the Cloud (Bluish) and Who has a Beautiful
and Auspicious Body,
3: Who is the Husband of Devi Lakshmi, Whose Eyes are like Lotus and
Who is Attainable to the Yogis by Meditation,
4: Salutations to That Vishnu Who Removes the Fear of Worldly
Existence and Who is the Lord of All the Lokas.
