all of the wonderful volunteers and accountants that helped
complete over 600 tax returns!
Summer Program Registration and Membership Renewal
Registration for Spring Programs and Membership Renewal will take place on Tuesday June 23rd,
Wednesday June 24th and Thursday June 25th in Rooms 142/147. The Day Centre Staff would like
to stress the importance of coming to register between 10am-2pm on these days to help
guarantee a spot in your desired courses. If you are unable to make it to the Centre during these
times, you may register over the phone with a credit card from the comfort of your own home.
You may also send a friend to register and pay on your behalf.
Following the designated program registration period, many courses may be cancelled due to low enrollment. If
you decide to wait until the week after the registration period, a course that appealed to you may have been
cancelled but wouldn’t have been, had we known you were interested!
If you must wait until the week after to register, please be prepared for lengthy wait times at the Front Desk as
there is no designated staff member to take your registration and all enrollments must be processed by the
receptionist who will be busy answering calls and assisting other members with day to day inquiries.
Thanks for your cooperation! We hope to see you on June 23rd, 24th and 25th!

Straight Talk on Funeral Planning
Presented by James Gregory
Tuesday, June 23rd
11:00am-12:00pm
This is the third in a series of “Straight Talk” workshops on final
planning. No spin or selling - just the facts on all aspects of
funeral planning. Is a funeral even necessary? What about
donating my body to science? What kind of costs can I expect
and why are funerals so expensive? Cremation versus traditional
casket. What is a rental casket? What happens if I die while
travelling? Is embalming necessary? What if I die while still
making payments? Should I pre-pay or let my life insurance take
care of things? How safe is my investment? What if I move?
Practical information that you can use to make wise decisions.
Death is a natural part of life: either plan for it yourself now, or
someone else will have to take care of things later. How do you
want to be remembered?

Elder Abuse
Provided by Manon Thompson from Ontario Network for
Prevention of Elder Abuse
Date/Time TBA
Please See Board on Main Hallway for Updates
Elder abuse in any form is wrong. Unfortunately, some
seniors suffer from abuse and neglect- sometimes from
caregivers or family members. Seniors need to know that
as long as they have the knowledge they have the power.
We shall review psychological, financial and physical
abuse, how it happens and why. Join us for a discussion
with an Ontario elder abuse prevention consultant and
learn how to protect yourself or someone you care about.

The 2015 TGC Vintage & Vibrant Luncheon Raises Over $18K!
What a way to welcome the first day of spring! The 2015 TGC Vintage & Vibrant Luncheon was a huge success , raising
over $18k, thanks to the generous support each and every one of you as our partners provided. Special thanks to Scotiabank
for their unwavering support of this event and the Centre through the years!
The Good Companions Seniors’ Centre has a great story to tell and to share that story to a vested, sold out audience at The
Fairmont Chateau Laurier will go a long way in promoting the robust, energetic membership and valued programming that
makes TGC special.
The TGC team is made up of challenge seekers and there is no shortage of challenges thanks to the nation’s capital
experiencing record breaking growth in the 55 Plus community.
Your support invigorates and inspires us. Your making the Centre a priority tells us we are not alone in our bid to empower
the many men and women at TGC who have given so much through the years and never asked for anything in return.
On behalf of our members, clients, volunteers and staff allow me to thank you for your support and we look forward to
seeing you at the 2016 TGC Vintage & Vibrant Luncheon!
Best of the best,
Ann McSweeney
