The conversation went well on thoughts/ suggestions for changes in the future. The IHSAA will consider the discussion and continue dialogue into next school year. Second Base - As we proceed through the third season with our updated website, we would like to encourage you to continue to use it to post scores, schedules, and games wanted. The website can be a great resource for everyone involved in baseball at the high school level in Indiana. Special thanks to Crawfordsville assistant Tommy Coy for his efforts to gather all the scores. We intend to continue using the site for the purpose of nomination players for All-State and Academic All-State. Third Base - As the season moves into the final couple of weeks prior to the start of Sectional play, we are excited about the level and quality of baseball being played in the State of Indiana. We have talented teams in all four high school classes and many of our college programs continue to represent themselves very well at the various levels. If you haven’t gotten to a college game this spring try and get out and support our state programs. Home Plate - Listed in this edition you will find information concerning Academic AllState and All-State nominations. You will also find listed the names and address of the District Reps who will be holding the annual North/South and Mr. Baseball nomination meetings on June the 5th, as well as the members of the respective North/South committees that will meet in Indianapolis to select the teams. Please recognize that these processes are time sensitive and have specific deadlines that must be met for your player(s) to be given consideration. At the district meeting you will also have the opportunity to nominate a Coach for COTY and an Umpire for UOTY as well as a Media representative for each district. Please contact your district representative if you have any questions regarding this meeting. Page 2 INDIANA H.S.BASEBALL NEWS Volume XLIII ISSUE 4 ONLINE ALL - STATE VOTING PROCESS Instructions regarding the IHSBCA All-State process are outlined below. Nominations for All-State will continue to be collected online. The deadline to nominate a player is June 5th. Last year, there was over 400 player nominations and 255 coaches who registered to submit their nominations. We hope to expand on these numbers this year. The process is similar to last year. It is outlined below: Nomination Process: Coaches must go to the following link to nominate players: http://ihsbca.powermediallc.org/all-state/ (link on the IHSBCA website too) Returning coaches with a username and password will be asked to enter that information in the system in order to nominate a player(s). There is a forget password link for those who do not remember their password. Click the link and enter your email or username to reset your password. New coaches will be required to register for the site to establish a profile. After completing the registration (a few basic questions), a confirmation page will appear confirming your registration and providing links to the All-State nomination. You will now be able to nominate a player(s). Enter information on the player(s) you are nominating for All-State Immediately after submission: A confirmation page will appear thanking you for your nomination. You will also be able to download the player's AllState nomination form by clicking on the provided link. A confirmation email is sent as well. Please understand that certain school email providers have very strict filters setup within their system. We guarantee that a confirmation email is sent, but can not guarantee that is reaches your Inbox. The confirmation email will be sent from [email protected]. A coach has the ability to view their nominations by clicking on the link "completed forms" in the footer of the website. This will show each of your All-State nominations. Deadline: June 5th at midnight (same day as spring district meetings) Voting Process: The voting window for All-State and Player of the Year will open June 12 and close on July 2 at midnight. June 12th allows for the MLB draft to be complete and for drafted players to be included in the All-State and Indiana High School Baseball Player of the Year process. Coaches need to login with their username/password in order to cast their votes Unlike in previous years, the IHSBCA will only have one level of voting and will be allowed to vote (1 time) for players in all 4 classes. To clarify, coaches are able to vote for players in 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A. Player of the year will be included in the section above the submission button. (using 5-3-1 scoring system) The voting process will take place within the same form. Once you cast your vote, the system will recognize you and not accept additional submissions. Similar to the nomination process, coaches will be directed to a confirmation page as well as sent a confirmation email alerting them that their vote was collected. The process is easy and can be completed on any of your devices: computer, tablet or phone. Let's make sure these deserving baseball players get the recognition they deserve. Page 3 INDIANA H.S. BASEBALL NEWS Volume XLIII ISSUE 4 executive director update The Update will be short this month. Shane Edwards (who handles our newsletter) has most of the items already listed. Please pay attention to the Academic All-State process; North – South nomination / Spring Meeting day of June 5; and the All-State process (which is ALL online). Busy time!! The IHSBCA has been meeting with the IHSAA on the participation rule and is having good discussions. More about that in future newsletters, but we are hoping to have a recommendation in the fall. My hot button this spring has been coaches. I have had several coaches call me and share the travails they have been through this spring. I have also had coaches share confusion on rules and decisions made by umpires and the IHSAA. Bottom line…….it is hard to be a coach. Everybody is your critic and whom do we go to for support? I have a two-fold suggestion: #1 – if you have been coaching for some time, please find a newer coach to reach out to and help. They need advice, direction, and perspective. They also need a friend. #2 – please share with me how I / the IHSBCA can help you. I have had several rules items shared with me that I will work on with the IHSAA (no names mentioned) and it was suggested we do some mentoring or break out sessions with older and younger coaches at the clinic. All good thoughts! The IHSBCA is here to help our coaches and I want to advocate for the needs of coaches and our sport. Please keep me in the loop in terms of how I can help. Good luck in the tournament! Brian Academic Achievement Games Classic Baseball in Chicago, Illinois is hosting the Academic Achievement Games with support from the Illinois Coaches Association.
