and community the educational
opportunities for all
pupils to develop into life long
learners who actively contribute to
society in a positive way.
23RD MARCH 2016
Hello, Kia ora, Bula, Anyoung Haseyo, Talofa, Nihāo, Goededag, Grūezi, Marhaba
What a wonderful celebration of the different cultures which make up our school community
the Explorers and Intermediate team had on Friday. The costumes and food were beautiful.
The students shared interesting presentations about their home countries.
The Year 3-8 Swimming Sports were so well supported by parents and family members.
The Explorers had their Swimming Sports yesterday. It is so good to see the progress many
children have made with their swimming skills. We are fortunate to have the pool on site and to
have so much use of it. Today the Juniors will share their skills.
EASTER BREAK - This Friday 25th March – Tuesday 29th March
Please remember that the Easter break always includes the Tuesday after Easter.
MEET THE LEADERS – Head Girl Hi, my name is Katie Slater. I am very
privileged to be your Head Girl for the first half of 2016. I enjoy a variety of activities
including reading, swimming, debating and netball. I also love to dance – I dance
most days after school and it’s basically my life. I would like to make an impact on
the school by using my skills to help and to bring new and exciting ideas. I hope
this year will be a fun and enjoyable year for everyone.
FROM THE MIDDLE TEAM…Through our inquiry topic - Te Moana, the Middle Team classes have been producing a
variety of different types of activities to meet the learning goals for this topic. If you get a chance go in to Room 13 and read
their newspaper articles. They were being reporters and reporting about the whale stranding that happened in Patea. Room
12 wrote some responses about how it was not nice that a dolphin died in Argentina because people took it out of the water to take photos of it.
Room 14 have created some art pieces of them snorkeling that you should go and see. Room 11 have found out that there is different coloured sand
on the West Coast and East Coast of New Zealand. All classes have been finding out about the reefs and their names in Bell Block (Waiwakaio Reef,
Mangati Reef and Puketapu Reef). Some comments from the children were: “we need the reefs to help protect the fish so they can produce more
fish”, “we need to look after our reefs by only catching a small amount of fish”, “we need to not put rubbish into the sea”.
READING TOGETHER WORKSHOP…Last year in Term 2 Bell Block School ran a
very successful Reading Together program in the School Library. Reading Together® is a
research-based workshop program that helps parents/whānau to provide effective support
for their children's reading at home. There are pamphlets available at the school office that go
into more detail about Reading Together. If you are interested in this program we are looking
at running this again early in Term 2. There are four workshops spread over 6-7 weeks. We
are also offering this to other parents in the community whose children have not yet started
school. So if you know of any families that may be interested please spread the word! Please
put your name down at the office if you are interested.
Thank you. Roz Miller & Wendy Foster
LIBRARY - PARENT HELP NEEDED!!...I have a lot of Junior reading books that need to be taped (not durasealed). This is an easy job that
could be done at home and the more volunteers the quicker it gets done. If anyone is able to help with this please contact either the school office or
Catherine in the library. Thanks.
COMPUTER MONITORS…We are currently on the hunt for 6 computer monitors with DVA ports to set up a Computer Programming Suite at
school. If anyone has any contacts in local companies that may have surplus monitors they are willing to donate, we would be most grateful. We will
also require keyboards and mice with USB ports as well.
PAYMENT OF FEES OR DONATIONS ONLINE…Parents/caregivers are welcome to pay any school fees or donations online, e.g.
Technology, Camp fees, School Contribution etc. Our account details are: Bell Block School Trustee Board, TSB, 15 3956 0057371 02.
