As Mayor of the City of North Charleston, I am excited to welcome
you to the 34th Annual North Charleston Arts Fest. From humble
beginnings as a half-day community celebration at Park Circle, the
event has matured into one of the most comprehensive arts
festivals in South Carolina featuring nine full days of free and
ticketed programming throughout the City. We look forward to this
event each year as it allows both residents and visitors access to
the talents of local, regional, and national artists in the areas of
performing, visual, media, and literary arts.
The variety of festival offerings and the inclusiveness of the event
have become a point of pride for the City of North Charleston. It is
a time of year when we are joined by thousands from throughout
the Southeast to become exposed, engaged, and inspired by the
arts. I encourage you, your friends, and family to take advantage
of the many fantastic performances, exhibits, and activities taking
place April 29-May 7. There’s truly something for everyone.

Enjoy a mesmerizing array of performances in dance and music highlighting
contemporary, classical, and cultural heritage. (Note: These stages combine
performances that were previously featured on the Performing Arts Center and
Performing Arts Center Lobby stages.)
Courtyard Stage • Band Showcase
Listen to some great bands perform a variety of music genres, such as Americana,
Blues, Cuban Jazz, Pop, R&B, Reggae, and Rock. The festival's food courtyard offers a variety of menu items along with tables, chairs, and umbrellas that provide
a wonderful outdoor setting to enjoy the music with your meal.
Exhibit Hall Lobby Stage • Youth Entertainment
Look for magicians, storytellers, puppet shows, music for kids, and variety acts like
daring jugglers that will inspire, amuse, and amaze the young and young at heart.
Roving Entertainers
From mimes to magicians, roving entertainers can be found throughout the
Complex interacting with Premiere Weekend patrons of all ages.

Art and Craft Vendors
More than 50 fine artists, fine craft artisans, and art and craft guilds will have items
on display and available for sale. Save your Mother’s Day shopping for this weekend
and find the perfect gift! The selection is vast and full of variety. Costs vary by item
and vendor.
Village Antiques & Collectibles Show
This show and sale features numerous vendors offering home decor, fine antiques,
furniture, collectibles, antique guns, art, jewelry, rugs, crafts, vintage toys & games,
silver, pottery, china, salvage items, outdoor decor, vintage instruments, and more.
Operating hours are 10:00am-5:00pm each day.
Lowcountry Gem & Mineral Show
The Lowcountry Gem & Mineral Society’s annual show and sale, Art by Nature,
features numerous vendors offering a variety of beads, gemstones, gemstone
jewelry, custom-designed jewelry, and collector minerals & fossils. Other offerings
include Lapidary demonstrations and a fossil dig. Operating hours are
10:00am-5:00pm each day.
Creation Stations & Box City
The Premiere Weekend offers many opportunities for children to be creative!
Creation Station projects, led by local artists, include origami, paper crowns, African
masks, jewelry making, batik, and more. Box City, facilitated by area professionals
and city planners, is a favorite for children to test out their architectural dreams
while building a small city.
Food Vendors
The food courtyard, located in the outdoor area between the North Charleston
Coliseum and the Charleston Area Convention Center, provides Premiere Weekend
patrons a variety of delicious menu selections to enjoy lunch or a snack. Tables,
chairs, and umbrellas provided. Costs vary by item and vendor.

STUDENT FASHION SHOW

Students, $15 Adults; available at the door or in advance from the SOA front desk Charleston County School of the Arts Costume and Fashion Design Major
students will showcase their original garment designs at this 8th annual event. The students will each present designs inspired by “Things That Changed the
World,” including the printing press, African American literature, contemporary art,
Velcro, social media, women’s liberation, and other innovations that impacted life as
we know it. As always, this year’s program will blend student talents in fashion &
costume design, visual arts, and music. The show features first collections of new
majors, elective students showing select designs, seasoned majors debuting
impressive assemblies, and 3-D AP Art portfolios on fashion design. Young
musicians from SOA’s Jazz Piano program will be featured throughout the event,
and SOA/Academic Magnet High School students trained at Charleston Fashion
Week will be modeling the garments on the runway. Proceeds benefit the Jasiri
Whipper Memorial Scholarship, an annually awarded scholarship presented to an
SOA senior pursuing higher education in preparation for an arts-related career.
PERFORMANCE AND COMMUNITY ART PROJECT
The Slave Narrative of Willie Mae

Thursday, April 28, 4:00-5:00pm • FREE • Join contemporary interdisciplinary artist
Ifé Franklin for an afternoon of education, reflection, and community art
interaction. In the most recent manifestation of her ongoing indigo/slave cabin
project, Ifé presents a life size replica of a slave cabin painted indigo and marked
with symbols. The project provides a historical context to highlight the importance
of slave dwellings. The structure honors Africans/African Americans who produced
cotton and indigo during their enslavement in the American South and also serves
as a dwelling for the spirits of these ancestors, who never had a home of beauty or
a home of their very own. Following a performance of The Slave Narrative of Willie
Mae, in which the artist calls upon the spirit of her own ancestors, the public will
be invited to write messages to their ancestors directly on the cabin structure as
a means to communicate with these old souls. [See pg. 28 for additional details on
this interactive public art installation.]

Productions presents Peter Quilter’s savagely funny and deeply moving
musical play set during the final months of Judy Garland’s life. The show triumphed
in London’s West End in 2010/2011 and on Broadway in 2012. In addition, it received 3
Tony Award nominations and 4 Olivier Award nominations, including Best Play. Ben
Brantley of The New York Times calls it “sensational - in every sense of the word.”

Charleston’s finest musicians, enjoy hors d’oeuvres, and win doorprizes. Senior
information exhibits offering health tips and details about the many senior services
available in our area will open at 5:30pm. Music starts at 6:30pm. Hosted by the
Senior Companion Program of Charleston Area Senior Citizens, Inc. and
Senior Corps, a national network of community service programs.

Junction. An all-acoustic treat for any bluegrass fan, this lively quintet consists of
Jeff Meierer on mandolin, Kristen Meierer on upright bass, Lisa Deakins on fiddle,
David Grant on guitar, and Tadd Huff on banjo. The band has been performing
locally for 15 years, as well as at bluegrass festivals across the U.S. and as far away
as Great Britain. Pints of Frothy Beard’s flagships and seasonal drafts run $5-7, with
flights offered at 4/$7 and 6/$10. A food truck will be on hand to serve up some tasty
bites.

School of Rock presented by South of Broadway Theatre Company
South of Broadway Theatre, 1080 East Montague Avenue, North Charleston, SC

the book by Julian Fellowes, this production features lyrics by Glenn Slater, new
music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and the original songs from the film. The musical
follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few bucks by
posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. Completely
disinterested in academic work, Dewey decides to create his own curriculum, turning
his class into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. School of
Rock, with its sensational live kids’ rock band, is a loving testimony to the
transforming power of music. May the spirit of rock be with you!

her New York brownstone with enough explosives to take out the city block. Can
estranged son, Chris, save her building and their relationship?

TAKING FLIGHT COMIC BOOK SHOW

Circle Comics’ Taking Flight Comic Book Show will feature meet and greets with
guest artists, comics for sale, drink specials, and more. Vintage comic book
enthusiasts will find thousands of comics from the forties to around the last five
years - everything from expensive and rare comics to bargain comics to graphic
novels to supplies to magazines, and more! Special guests include Tom Lyle, from
Savannah, GA, and John Hairston Jr., from Charlotte, NC. Lyle is a comic book
artist and a Professor of Sequential Art at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
He has been on creative teams for both DC Comics and Marvel Comics on notable
works such as The Comet, Robin, Spider-Man, and Starman. Hairston is a painter
with a style of artwork that seamlessly blends political satire, social commentary,
and obscure pop-culture references. He is an Illustration Professor at UNC Charlotte
College of Arts + Architecture, a Comp Ed Instructor at Central Piedmont Community
College-Central Campus, and his work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions
throughout the Southeast. Donations benefit Engaging Creative Minds, which
provides creative learning opportunities that encourage imagination and innovation
to help students achieve academically, stay engaged in school and succeed in life.
DANCE WORKSHOP
Indian Classical Dance Workshop with Dr. Anuradha Murali

Participants will learn the differences between Indian Classical dance and Bollywood
dance. Dr. Anuradha Murali, Artistic Director of the Mrudani School of Performing
Arts, will introduce the fundamentals, theory, and techniques of two different styles

of Indian Classical Dance known as Bharathanatyam and Kuchipudi. She received
her formal training from numerous reputable Indian instructors, has served as an
Adjunct Professor and Instructor of Dance at Columbia College and the University of
South Carolina, and has written several scholarly articles in teaching
Bharathanatyam and Kuchipudi for dance majors. In addition, Dr. Murali is the
recipient of numerous grants/awards for dance choreography and dance
performance and has performed at prestigious festivals both nationally and abroad.
No previous dance experience required. Workshop is best suited for ages 10 and up
GOSPEL CONCERT

Join noted music educator and choral conductor, Nathan L. Nelson, and the 75
members of Lowcountry Voices for a live concert recording session that explores
the traditional music of the South Carolina Lowcountry. This multicultural and
ethnically diverse community choir will have you singing, clapping, and stomping
your feet to their passionate and powerful delivery of African American spirituals
and an assortment of traditional and contemporary gospel music.
VEGAS-STYLE CONCERT

accomplished and recognized Elvis tribute artists in the country, will be coming to
Hanahan for “one night only” in this recreation of the “Vegas years” of the Artist of
the Century, Elvis Presley. The Vegas Show Band, an energetic powerhouse band,
will provide the electrifying music that sets the stage for a true replica of Elvis
Presley’s Las Vegas Show. Joining the headliner will be international tribute artists
Ronnie Allen as Kenny Rogers, Terri Adams as Dolly Parton, Gerry English as Willie
Nelson, and Gill Downer as Mr. Garth Brooks. These renowned performers not only
look and sound like the stars they portray, they transform themselves.
HANDBELL CONCERT
Out on the Town with Palmetto Bronze
North Charleston United Methodist Church, 1125 East Montague Avenue, North
Charleston, SC 29405 • 7:00-8:00pm • FREE • Palmetto Bronze, an auditioned
community handbell ensemble, will present a light-hearted evening concert
featuring songs they associate with their favorite outings. Program selections cover
genres such as pop, classical, show tunes, and more! Refreshments will be offered
following the performance, provided by North Charleston United Methodist Church.

Local keyboard player, singer/songwriter, promoter, and blues advocate, Gary Erwin,
better known as Shrimp City Slim, will perform his unique style of blues based in
the Chicago and New Orleans traditions. Erwin has been performing solo and with
his band throughout the Southeast and overseas for 29 years. In that time he has
produced 12 albums and shared the stage with blues legends such as BB King,
Bobby Blue Bland, Jimmy Rogers, Junior Wells, Johnny Winter, Buddy Guy, and more.
In 2013, former Charleston Mayor, Joe Riley, named March 27 “Shrimp City Slim/Gary
Erwin Day” in honor of his dedication to playing and promoting blues music in our

of styles, subjects, and media. Musical performances and live art demos are also
scheduled to take place throughout the evening. Up-and-coming singer/songwriter
and country artist Lauren Hall and her band will perform originals from her debut
EP, Our Time, her upcoming full length album, as well as covers from 5:00-6:00pm.
Local artist Tonya Maynor will share her talents in a live painting demo set to music
ranging from Young Jeezy to James Brown from 6:00-6:30pm. Americana trio The
Lowhills will offer up their unique blend of classic country, rock, bluegrass, swing,
old R&B, and jazz from 6:30-8:00pm. Large-scale, contemporary, outdoor murals can
be seen on buildings along Chateau Avenue courtesy of the ChArt (Charleston
Art) Outdoor Initiative. Pick up a handmade gift at the artist market containing
booths by members of the North Charleston Artist Guild and other local makers. Free face painting, balloon twisting, a jump castle, and other activities will be

COMMUNITY ART PROJECT UNVEILING AND RECEPTION
Latino Americans: 500 Years of History
5:00-8:00pm • FREE • Join local artist Pedro Rodriguez, along with students from
The Citadel and local middle schools, for the unveiling of a collaborative, abstract
art piece celebrating music and Latino culture. The contributing artists will also
accompany Pedro in the presentation of a few typical Spanish-language songs.
Latino Americans: 500 Years of History tells the story of Latinos in the Lowcountry,
which can be traced back to Spanish settlements in the 16th century. The Citadel,
with the support of numerous community partners, is sponsoring a year-long series
of events that trace Latino history and celebrate Latino culture. This initiative also
aims to bring attention to this community, its current challenges, and its contributions to the Lowcountry. The project is made possible through a grant from the
National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association.

to the circus inspired him to visit his local library to learn more about juggling, which
led to balloons, magic, and the history of the circus. Throughout the performance he

his one-man variety show. He’s worked with the Hawaii Volcano Circus, Mobious –

Presented annually, Play Fest is an extraordinary theatre event that celebrates our
local talent and theatre community. This showcase weekend of new 10 minute plays
by local playwrights offers laughs, drama and touching moments. All the plays have
been developed through Second Sundays at Seven, a playwrights’ workshop. On
the second Sunday of each month, writers gather with a group of actors who read

Variety Hits & West African Dance

reggae by artists such as Stevie Wonder, Daft Punk, Aretha Franklin, James Brown,
and Credence Clearwater Revival. As the sun sets, the party rolls on from variety
hits to West African dance vibes. From 8:30-10:00pm, Diali Cisshoko and Kaira Ba
will perform music inspired by the ancient West-African griot tradition. Led by the
kora, the 21-stringed harp-lute, their highly original blend of traditional and modern
styles creates an infectious sound reminiscent of West African dance bands full of
unison melody, adventurous improvisation, fiery solos, and polyrhythmic
frameworks. So wear your dancing shoes and boogie down to a variety of tunes,

SOUTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL IMPROV TOURNAMENT

students from across the state will converge to take part in this fifth annual double
elimination tournament sponsored by the South Carolina Theatre Association,
the Fighting Gnomes, and Theatre 99. Ten budding comedic acting students per
high school will be assigned to a 3 to 4 member team with students from other
participating schools. These interschool teams will be coached under a Theatre 99
company member prior to the tournament, and then will hit the stage to be judged
on scene work by local Charleston theatre professionals. The event will conclude
with awards and recognitions.

spectacular steel drum program in one of the country’s largest mass steel drum bands ever assembled. Performance selections will include John Willmarth’s Super Soca and Len “Boogsie” Sharpe’s Sarah and Sunday Morning Funk, arranged by Liam Teague. Museum’s 2016/2017 Traveling Exhibitions Program. Selections for the exhibit, as well

10TH ANNUAL AFRICAN AMERICAN FIBER ART EXHIBITION
A Piece of Peace

works in fiber created by African American artists from the US and Canada. The
10th installment features pieces by 38 artists inspired by the concept of peace.
This year’s theme challenged artists to create a fiber work, such as an art quilt, doll,
wearable art piece, etc., that expresses their personal vision of peace. In today’s
world, many are feeling lost, frightened, or overwhelmed. Life can often feel
tumultuous and fractured. Where can one go to find a “piece of peace”? For some,
it’s through a long meditation, a walk in the woods, or a good book. Others find their
it through action - caring for a beloved child or aging parent, spending time with an
animal friend, worshipping in a sacred space, or working towards social justice to
help change the world in both small and large ways. Curated by award-winning and
nationally exhibiting textile artist, Torreah “Cookie” Washington, this unique
opportunity offers African American fiber artists a showcase to exhibit their original
and innovative designs executed in a variety of traditional and non-traditional fiber

WORKS BY ANDREW BROWN • Baltimore, Munich and a Chinese Restaurant

drawings challenge the viewer’s perception through the use of illusionistic
elements. His work is an interpretation of space, surface, and experience. Recently,
the Florida based artist has begun to investigate and answer questions regarding
the fractured nature of how people experience their immediate surroundings, more
specifically as they relate to the role of digital media in their lives and
environmental interactions.Experiences wholly disconnected in time and place can
be brought together with technology, allowing disparate elements to be combined
in a new context. Brown grew up in Baltimore, MD, the son of educators. He earned
a BA with Honors in Painting at Towson University in 2005 and completed an MFA in
Painting and Drawing in 2013, receiving the Dean’s Medal for academic excellence.
After completing his degree, he worked as an adjunct instructor of foundations at
Louisiana State University and is currently a full time Instructor of Foundations and
Associate Graduate Faculty at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton.

WORKS BY KIMBERLY RINER • What Remains
North Charleston City Hall, 3rd floor, 2500 City Hall Lane, North Charleston, SC
29406 • April 29-June 20, 8:00am-8:00pm • Statesboro, GA, based artist Kimberly
Riner creates mixed media ceramic installations that document the journey of loss
and grief as experienced through the death of loved ones, and reflect upon the
variety of effects it has upon the survivors. Each installation presents a perspective
associated with grief as an intuitive response. The works are informed by cultural
norms associated with mourning. By investigating specific ceremonies, rituals, and
interactions, she constructs pieces that bridge the line between memory and
memorial. Kimberly Riner is the Visual Arts Director for the Averitt Center for the
Arts. She received an MFA from Georgia Southern University in 3D Art with an
emphasis in ceramics and has held faculty positions at Georgia Southern University
and Ogeechee Technical College. Riner is actively involved in growing the art scene
in the Statesboro area where she has worked with the Migrant Youth Summer
Camp, ArtsFest, Summer Studios, and Creative Art Studio. Her artwork has been
exhibited both nationally and internationally and is held in private collections.
WORKS BY LISA SHIMKO • Air and Water
Charleston Area Convention Center, 5001 Coliseum Drive, North Charleston, SC
29418 • April 29-May 31, 9:00am-5:00pm • Lisa Shimko, winner of the 2016 North
Charleston Arts Fest Design Competition, will display a collection of recent
paintings, including her winning design, Air and Water. The paintings in the featured
series are the result of Lisa’s meditations of the aquatic world. Within each piece
she ruminates on the edges of land to the water, constantly changing with tides;
the various organisms, big and small; and accentuating the range of colors found
both up close and seen at the landscape’s distance. These works are not meant to
be an illustration of the Lowcountry landscape, but a portal of her experience and
feeling of the meandering waterways and the energy of the many creatures that
call it home. Lisa graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA, with
a BFA in Painting, and a minor in Art Therapy. She moved to Charleston in 2006,
and has since been extremely involved with the community as a fine artist,
instructor, and fundraiser. Her work has been exhibited in a number of solo and
group shows locally and she is currently represented by Mitchell Hill Gallery in
downtown Charleston. The public is invited to meet the artist at the gallery on
Saturday, April 30, from 10am-4pm, and Sunday, May 1, from 1-5pm, during the
festival’s Premiere Weekend.
WORKS BY DARYLE HALBERT • Lowcountry Kitchens
North Charleston City Hall, 2nd floor, 2500 City Hall Lane, North Charleston, SC
29406 • April 29-June 20, 8:00am-8:00pm • Local artist Daryle Halbert became very
interested in the rich African American history and culture of the South Carolina and
Georgia Lowcountry upon relocating to Charleston from Philadelphia in 2011.
His most recent paintings depict scenes of Lowcountry cuisine, agriculture, music,
and folklore. In Lowcountry Kitchens he presents a collection of works focused on
the culinary symbols and traditions unique to the Gullah-Geechee culture. Halbert
currently works from his home studio in Goose Creek, SC, is a member of the
Charleston Artist Guild, and offers residencies to North Charleston schools and
community groups as the City of North Charleston’s 2015/16 Artist-in-Residence.

THE ANCESTOR SLAVE CABIN by Ifé Franklin
Felix Pinckney Community Center Grounds, 4764 Hassell Street, North Charleston,
SC 29405 • April 29-May 28, 9:30am-5:00pm • Constructed as a testament to the
Africans/African Americans who lived and died as enslaved people in the American
South, this life size replica of a slave cabin serves as the most
recent manifestation of Ifé Franklin’s ongoing indigo/slave cabin project. The
structure is meant to highlight the importance of slave dwellings, honor the
enslaved, and also act as temporary solace for the spirits of these ancestors. The
cabin is painted indigo and marked with symbols. The symbols, applied on the front,
back and roof of the cabin, resemble spirals and represent Elelo (a Yoruba word that
means “to coil up”), an ancient adire fabric technique. These “markings” represent
not only an art form, but also a form of alphabet, a “coded language” that only the
enlightened spirits of the old souls can decipher. Viewers are invited to add to Ifé’s
markings by writing messages to their ancestors directly on the cabin as a means
to communicate with these old souls. Ifé Franklin earned a degree from The School
of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and has worked as a professional artist and
community activist for over 25 years. [See pg. 10 for related event details.]
ORB OF THE DRAGON by Brooke Boyd
Greenspace at intersection of Lackawanna Avenue and Mixson Avenue, North
Charleston, SC 29405 • April 29-May 28 • Inspired by fantasy literature and movies, this abstract sculpture is made to resemble three dragon wings connected by
a mystical orb. The piece is constructed using a combination of welded steel rods,
stretched canvas fabric, epoxy resin, and metallic paints.

Traffic Circle at Wescott Blvd. and Oak Forest Blvd., North Charleston, SC 29485
April 29-May 28, public park open daily • This anthropomorphic form stands at 8 feet
tall, and is made from steel, rebar, and cement. The shiny metal of the visible spine
contrasts with the rusted appearance of the rest of the form, alluding to the idea
that there are both physical and physiological aspects of every individual that are
not apparent to the outside world.

with the forms of koi fish and lotus flowers adorn a dome-like structure of spindling
steel to cast unique shadows and offer a quiet place of solitude and
retreat for the viewer. This piece is meant to provoke feelings of peace and wonder
as one walks through and around it.
COCOON CLUSTER by Eileen Szwast
Greenspace at intersection of East Montague Avenue and Park Place East, North
Charleston, SC 29405 • April 29-May 28 • Fueled by her fascination with safe havens, natural light, and how functionality affects the feel of a safe haven, the artist
has created seven cocoon-like structures hanging from a cluster of trees. Built from
steel rod and woven natural materials like manila rope, bamboo and twigs, some are
functional “swings,” allowing one to experience the sculpture from the inside, while
others are completely enclosed, only to be viewed from the outside. Together, the
forms create an interactive space that allows passersby to appreciate the beauty of
the surrounding environment.

about shapes, patterns, and repetition, this sleek, geometric form demands closer
inspection. Various sizes of industrial pipe are transformed through different angles
of sight and ever-changing lighting conditions to create a visually
stimulating piece.
BALLOON CART by Haleigh Wayman
North Charleston Fire Museum and Educational Center Grounds, 4975 Centre
Pointe Drive, North Charleston, SC 29418 • April 29-May 28, daylight hours • This
steel, foam, and epoxy structure is an artistic representation of a circus balloon cart,
with balloons reaching almost 9 feet into the air. The whimsical nature of the sculpture represents a childlike playfulness that everyone can relate to, and is intended
to excite both the young and young at heart.

FACEBOOK TRIVIA
Stay tuned in to the North Charleston Arts Fest Facebook page April 29-May 7,
2016, for daily trivia questions about the Arts Fest and the arts in North Charleston.
The first person to answer each trivia question correctly will win an Arts Fest t-shirt
or tote bag and be entered into a drawing for a $50 cash prize. One trivia question
will be posted each day of the festival. Cash prize winner will be drawn and
announced on Monday, May 9th.
INSTAGRAM PHOTO CONTEST
All are invited to participate in our Arts Fest Selfie Instagram Photo Contest!
Win cash prizes for taking the best selfie at an Arts Fest event and/or taking selfies
at the most Arts Fest events.
HOW IT WORKS:
1. Follow @nchasarts
2. Take an individual or group selfie at a North Charleston Arts Fest event,
activity, or exhibition.
3. Share the photograph on Instagram by tagging @nchasarts and using the
contest hashtag #ArtsFestSelfie
PRIZES:
Prize #1 – Best Arts Fest Selfie taken overall - $50
(Winner selected at the sole discretion of Arts Fest staff.)
Prize #2 – Selfies taken at the most Arts Fest events - $50
Participation Prizes – 2016 North Charleston Arts Fest t-shirt or sling bag (while
supplies last) – May be picked up from the Cultural Arts office on the 2nd floor of
North Charleston City Hall from 8:30am-5pm, May 9-13, 2016.
TERMS:
• Submissions must be posted to Instagram between Thursday, April 21, 2016, and
Saturday, May 7, 2016.
• All photos taken for the contest must tag @nchasarts and use the contest
hashtag #ArtsFestSelfie to be considered valid.
• In order to qualify as a submission, the photograph must depict the Arts Fest
event, activity, or exhibition clearly. In other words, the event, artist, and/or
location must be easily recognizable. This determination is at the Arts Fest staff’s
sole discretion.
• Sponsor reserves the right to use images of entries for publicity.
• All photos must be original, unpublished, and the sole property of the entrant.
In addition, photos may not contain lewd, inappropriate, threatening or obscene,
defamatory or libelous images or content. By submitting a photo, entrants agree
that the photo does not infringe on the intellectual property or other rights of any
third party and does not violate any laws.
• Winners will be notified via Instagram by Monday, May 9, 2016.
• Employees and contractors of the City of North Charleston Cultural Arts
Department and members of their immediate family are eligible to participate but
are not eligible to win.
