The 42 Annual
The Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association (IWCOA)
President’s Greeting
Illinois Wrestling Community,
It is my honor as the current President of the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association to welcome you all to
the 2014 Hall of Fame and All State Banquets. All of the individuals and teams being recognized at this weekend’s
ceremonies embody all of the very best our great sport has to offer. The IWCOA has taken great pride in recognizing the
accomplishments of wrestlers, coaches, officials, and contributors since 1971. These accomplishments do not occur by
chance. They are the result of dedication, commitment, and extraordinary effort on the part of the award winners; none
of which would be possible for them without the support of the families, friends, and fans who stand behind them in
their journey toward success. The IWCOA and I thank you for this as well as for your attendance this weekend. We hope
that you enjoy the event.
Yours in Wrestling,
Rich Montgomery, IWCOA President

Rob began his wrestling career in 1976 as a Vittum Park Viking in the Chicago Park District. Donald Ledin, his father and
Hall of Fame member, coached Rob to two IKWF state tournaments including a sixth place finish in 1981. A 1985
graduate of St. Laurence High School in Burbank, Rob lettered in wrestling three times. In his senior season he was
named Captain and won the Chicago Catholic League Championship and the Regional Championship under Head Coach,
Robert Trombetta. Rob went on to wrestle at Illinois State University earning his Varsity “I” under Coach George Girardi.
Rob received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1990 and later earned his Master’s Degree in Educational
Administration from ISU in 2006.
In 1990 Rob began his coaching career at Hinsdale South High School as an associate dean and assistant wrestling coach
under Mike Matozzi. After two seasons, Rob left Hinsdale South to pursue a job in the Chicago Park District where he
began an IKWF Club at Archer Park. In 1994 Rob moved to Normal where he taught Physical Education, Health
Education and Driver Education at Normal Community High School. He served as the Freshman Wrestling Coach and
Chiddix Junior High Head Wrestling Coach.
Rob received his first high school Head Wrestling Coach position at Clinton in 1995. For the next 8 years Rob produced
an IHSA Dual Team Runner-up finish in 2000 and a Third Place finish in 2001. During his tenure at Clinton, Ledin’s teams
produced five OKAW Conference Championships and three IHSA Regional Championships. In 2000 Rob was named
IWCOA Head Coach of the Year and in 2000 and 2001 he was chosen as the Decatur Herald & Review Head Coach of the
Year. In 2001 Rob was selected to coach the Illinois Senior All-Stars in the Illinois vs. Indiana Classic Duals. In 2003 Rob
took the Head Coach position at Morton High School and coached there for two seasons. In 2006 Rob was hired by Hall
of Fame Coach, Marty Williams, to take the helm at Mahomet-Seymour High School where he currently resides. Rob
presently teaches at the Alternative School and serves as the Head Wrestling Coach and Freshman Football Coach.
Ledin’s teams have won seven Corn Belt Conference Championships, three Regional Titles and a trip to the Elite 8 in
2009. Rob was chosen to coach the Central Illinois All-Stars in the 2009 Cross State Classic. In 2011 Rob was inducted

MEN OF COURAGE
Kevin McCann and Brett Harman were outstanding athletes and great young men. Brett
wrestled at Maine South High School for Hall of Fame Coaches Craig Fallico and Dennis
McCann while Kevin wrestled at Notre Dame High School for Hall of Fame Coach Augie
Genovesi and played football for Coach Mike Hennessey. Both were teammates and best
friends from their youth wrestling day, and both went on to excellent college wrestling
careers – Kevin at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Brett at the United States
Naval Academy. Kevin and Brett were champion wrestlers, team captains, and true
leaders by accomplishments, attitude, and example.
In September 2004, Kevin and friends from Chicago visited Brett in North Carolina. Brett
was now a Marine Lieutenant ready to leave for Iraq. They went to a college football game
and stopped a drug crazed; drunken driver was recklessly driving through the parking lot,
endangering the life of everyone. The driver came back later, and with his brother, lured
Brett and Kevin into a trap. They shot Brett in cold blood, and when Kevin courageously
went to defend him, they murdered Kevin. Brett and Kevin died valiantly defending
others and each other.
Brett and Kevin have left a legacy of honor, love, and courage to the many, many people
whose lives they touched. Their heart, sensitivity, toughness, warmth, and love are
remembered daily. They will never be forgotten.
