The squads have one common opponent this season in Salisbury with both teams winning in thrilling fashion. Wesley defeated the Sea Gulls in the closing seconds on a Hail Mary toss to Jeremiah Howe while the Bombers defeated Salisbury, 24-23 in overtime. Last Time Out Wesley advanced to its ninth-straight NCAA Second Round with a 29-24 win at #8 Johns Hopkins last Saturday. After allowing a touchdown with 50 seconds left, Joe Callahan drove the Wolverines 82 yards on just 5 plays in 38 seconds. Callahan hit Steve Koudossou (11 catches, 132 yards, 3 TDs) on a post pattern for a 33-yard TD with 12.8 seconds left. Malik jones recorded a sack on the game’s final play. Callahan threw for 244 yards and 4 TDs on 27-of-43 passing. Sosthene Kapepula and Derrick Bender each had 2 TFLs while Jordan Wescott and Luke Maginnins had ten tackles each. Scouting the Bombers Ithaca excels on the defensive side of the ball, allowing just 15.3 points per game and just 303.2 yards per game. Five times, the Bombers held their opponents to under ten points with the most they allowed being 28, in a regular season loss to Cortland State. Will Carter leads the team with 92 tackles along with 8.5 TFLs and six sacks. Brian Hardenberg, who has recovered a team-high four fumbles, is right behind with 71 tackles while his 10.5 TFLs are second on the squad to Jake Santora’s 11.5. Santora has missed the last three games with an injury and is not expected to play. Dan and Mike Sheldon are bookends of a 3-4 Front and have combined for 13.5 TFLs and 65 tackles. In the secondary, Brian Garvey and Mike Vulcano each have four interceptions. Sam Carney is a playmaker all over the field with two interceptions, two forced fumbles and 32 tackles while averaging 28 yards per kick return and 16.3 yards a punt return. Offensively, the Bombers have battled injury at running back as Evan Skea was well on his way to a 1,000 yard season before getting hurt. Healthy now, Skea has rushed for 384 yards and a TD, ranking second to Rakim Jones’ 494 yards and five touchdowns. Tommy Padula is also expected to carry the load, rushing for 253 yards on 79 carries. Tom Dempsey is slated to start at QB and has completed 61.1% of his passes for 1,454 yards and 13 TDs to just 7 interceptions. Phil Neumann has also got substantial time under center with 753 yards and 4 passing touchdowns. Graduate Assistants: Jessica Barranco & Jared Prugar and Vito Boffoli have 42 and 41 catches, respectively, but Prugar has Johnathan Taylor 748 yards and 6 Tds to just 400 yards and 3 scores for Boffoli. Joel Lynch is a great Follow the Wolverines at www.GoWesleyAthletics.com or at: Twitter: http://twitter.com/gowesley Facebook: www.facebook.com/wesleyathletics third threat with 37 catches for 495 yards and six TDs. Chris Bauer (19-204) and Steve DelMoro (17-185) should also be targeted. head coach mike drass Wesley head coach Mike Drass has continued the Wolverines’ winning tradition since taking over as head coach in 1993. Now in his 21st season as head coach, and his 25th overall with the program, Drass is fifth among active Division III coaches with a .783 winning percentage and 186 wins. Among coaches at the three four-year football programs in Delaware, Drass ranks second all-time to former Delaware head coach Tubby Raymond. Raymond won 300 contests, but Drass’ 78.3% winning percentage is the best all-time of any coach while at Wesley, Delaware or Delaware State. The Wolverines have finished .500 or better in all of Coach Drass’ 21 seasons at the helm, with 13 seasons with at least eight wins and seven with at least ten wins. Callahan Cruises In First Career Start Redshirt sophomore Joe Callahan had the best game for a quarterback in Wesley College history in a 33-21 victory over #20 Widner in the season opener. Callahan set school-records for completions (37) and passing yards (510) and did not throw an interception. The 510 yards is the most passing yards at any NCAA level for a quarterback in their first career start.
