Paul HANCOCK Domain of expertise : Social Enterprise Job title / Company : Founder, Khom Loy Development Foundation Country : Thailand Paul Hancock is the Founder and CEO of Khom Loy Development Foundation (Thai foundation) and Izara Khom Loy Trust (UK charity). These linked charities run projects in the fields of Education, Agriculture, Income Generation, Fair Trade Handicrafts, as well as assisting other foundations in the region with management consultancy and fundraising. There are currently 13 staff based in Chiang Rai and Mae Sot, Thailand, as well as a Board of Trustees in the UK. Main activities/highlights include: Education project: created child-centred (Montessori) pre-school centres from village child-care centres where ethnic minority children aged 3-6 learn basic Thai, Maths, etc. Currently covers over 60 school rooms benefiting 1,500+ children pa. Also now includes a Montessori-based English teaching project. See video on the project here. Agriculture/water/sanitation project: provides livelihood, water and sanitation assistance to remote ethnic minority villages via a variety of agriculture based schemes, using revolving microcredit for larger schemes and grants for smaller ones. Has helped 2,000+ people since 2003. Community development project: this project started with a winning entry for a financial literacy programme in the MasterCard Project Inspire Awards in 2011, and has now benefited five communities in and around Mae Sot, on the Thai-Burma border.
