A few people to mention:
The Helpful City Guide. Everything we have worked so
hard to provide to our community, all of the wonderful
schools, churches, non-profits, charities and local businesses
is finally making it’s debut! We could not have gotten this
far without the amazing local businesses who have opened
their hearts to what it is we are trying to accomplish in the
community. Giving a voice to area organizations making a
difference is no easy task, but a labor of
love that is worth the effort. We
hope that you enjoy what this
issue has to offer, and we are excited about those of you sharing
this with friends and family. A simple way that everyone can

Realizing Dreams
Children with life-threatening disorders deserve
wonderful chances such as a trip to Disney World,
meeting a celebrity, or going on a shopping
spree. A Special Wish Foundation is
determined to make these dreams become a
reality. With incredible support from local
organizations and individuals, we have brought
smiles to the faces of hundreds of children and their families.
A Special Wish Foundation has been granting wishes to local
Dayton area children since 1983. Our goal is to provide unique, once
in a lifetime opportunities for children diagnosed with life-threatening
disorders. Our organization is wholly dedicated to granting such
wishes. We operate on minimal expenses so that over 90 percent of
contributions go toward granting wishes, not overhead costs.

HUNGER
{
Nearly 17 million children in America struggle with hunger.
Thatʼs almost 1 in 4 kids. In the worldʼs wealthiest nation,
childhood hunger is simply unacceptable. Hunger impairs
our childrenʼs health, growth and development in
significant and long-lasting ways.
If there is one thing a child should never know,
No one but the child knows what is in his or her
it’s hunger. Yet so many children go home from

school and do not have enough food to eat. A

The Good-to-Go Backpack Program may seem
like something that helps with school supplies at the
start of a new school year; and as great as that
need is, these backpacks hide a difference surprise
for young school aged children. Food!
There are many children throughout The
Foodbank's service area that receive free or reduced
lunches at school. But over the weekend, these same
children are at a high risk of going hungry. The
Good-to-Go Backpack program addresses the
needs of hundreds of these children throughout the
area.
Good-to-Go backpacks are sent home with
specifically identified children every Friday
throughout the school year. Each backpack is filled

Each week backpacks are packed with food that
require no preparation such as; granola bars, fruit
cups, chips, fruit snacks, cookies, etc. The items are
packed in 1-gallon zip lock bags and are delivered
to the schools on Friday mornings and distributed to
the children at the end of the day. The zip locks
bags are to be put into their backpacks and not

Ralph's Automotive is a family owned
business. It was established in 1969, by
my father Ralph and mother Sandra. I
remember growing up there; playing in
the bays on my bike, while my dad was
working on customer's vehicles. I started
working with my dad when I was 14
years old. My wife and I took over the
business in January of 2003. We are
happy to be able to continue this
business. We are thrilled to have 3rd
and 4th generation customers, most of
whom started coming to our shop
because of "word of mouth". We hope
to keep the family business thriving for
the next 30 years, and who knows,
pass it on to the next generation of our
family.

The Dream
that took
Flight
www.HonorFlightDayton.org
When one person is struck with a great
idea and has the courage to follow wherever
it takes them, thousands of lives are
changed forever.
That is what happened in 2004 when
Earl Morse felt that every veteran deserved
to see “their” memorial in Washington D.C.
With the completion of the
Wo r l d Wa r I I
Memorial, Earl, a
physician’s
assistant at a local
VA hospital, asked
some of his patients
if they were going to
go see the memorial.
When he realized
that many of these
veterans lacked the
ability to get
there, this began a new passion and has now
changed lives nationwide!
Being a pilot, he took it upon himself,
along with a few of his pilot friends to fly
veterans
to
Wa s h i n g t o n
D.C. for a day to see the memorials.
In 2005, six planes took flight with
twelve veterans aboard; destination, “their”
memorial.
This new mission spread across the
country and had taken veterans by storm.
Honor Flight Dayton has been flying
local World War II and Korean
Conflict Veterans to Washington
D.C. since the start of the first
flight.
And now, just 7 short years
later, over 84,000 veterans
across the country have been
blessed with a trip of a
lifetime.
Many of the veterans were
touched by the people thanking
them for their service at
the memorials and
in the airports.
Other veterans treasure their T-shirts that
they get on their trip, and they become a
permanent part of their wardrobe.
For so many of these deserving veterans,
Honor Flight gives them a one a kind
opportunity to see that “we the people”
really do remember that they fought for our
freedom and this nation.
We are currently losing our nation’s
veterans at a rate of 1,000 per day and
Honor Flight has made it their mission to do
whatever it takes to fulfill the dreams of
veterans and help our heroes see “their”
memorials absolutely FREE.
If you know of a veteran or would like
to make a dream take flight, please visit
www.honorflightdayton.org for more
information.
