NORRIS CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS SeasonBrochure_FINAL.indd 1 6/12/2006 12:04:10 PM The Norris Theatre welcomes you to another sensational season! Top professional talent has been selected to appeal to a discriminating audience expecting high quality yet affordable entertainment—the hallmark of the theatre since its inception. The 2006-2007 Season promises to be the best ever with a variety of music, comedy, magic and live theatre. Since 1983, the Norris Center for the Performing Arts has been the cornerstone of the performing arts on the beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula. The 450-seat theatre provides an intimate setting for performances, lectures and recitals, while the Harlyne J. Norris Pavilion just across the street accommodates everything from elegant banquets to corporate retreats. In addition, through the Negri Learning Center, hundreds of children each year creatively grow in the study of the performing arts. The Palos Verdes Peninsula and surrounding communities are greatly enriched by this outstanding performing arts center. We hope that you will truly enjoy these performances and indulge in the many fine offerings of the 2006-2007 Season. 2 SeasonBrochure_FINAL.indd 2 Norris Center for the Performing Arts 6/12/2006 12:04:22 PM THE NORRIS 2006-2007 NORRIS PRESENTS GALA CHAMPAGNE SEASON OPENER John Davidson October 13, 2006 OCTOBER Boomer McLennan (Pavilion) October 6, 2006 An Evening of Classics and Opera October 21, 2006 The Emperor’s New Clothes October 29, 2006 NOVEMBER The Foreigner November 3-5, 2006 The Night Blooming Jazz Men (Pavilion) November 5, 2006 The Foreigner November 10-12, 2006 A Tribute to the Troops November 17, 2006 Christmas from Dublin with The Three Irish Tenors November 28, 2006 DECEMBER The Three Leading Ladies Christmas Show December 8-9, 2006 Charles Phoenix’s Retro Holiday Slide Show December 30, 2006 JANUARY BED (Pavilion) January 14, 2007 Music of Glenn Miller and Gene Krupa January 20, 2007 Don’t Dress for Dinner January 26-28, 2007 FEBRUARY Don’t Dress for Dinner February 2-4, 2007 MARCH It Takes Two – Kirsten and Stan Chandler March 2, 2007 Gizmo Guys March 11, 2007 It’s Magic! So before parting, Froggy tells everyone assembled that Charlie is from an exotic foreign country and speaks no English. Once Charlie is alone the fun begins as he overhears more than he should – evil plans, shocking gossip and damaging revelations are unveiled with the belief that Charlie doesn’t understand a word. The fact that he does fuels the non-stop hilarity and sets up the wildly funny climax. DON’T DRESS FOR DINNER January 26-28 and February 2-4, 2007 This boulevard comedy was a smash hit in Paris and London. The main character, Bernard, is planning a weekend with his mistress in a stylish converted French farmhouse. He has hired a cordon bleu cook to prepare gourmet delights. He’s arranged for his wife to go to her mother’s and convinced his best friend to come for the weekend, inviting his girlfriend which provides an alibi. As the play unfolds, the cook is mistaken for the mistress, the mistress can’t cook and the wife is involved with Bernard’s best friend... A recipe for an evening of hilarious confusion! 12 SeasonBrochure_FINAL.indd 12 Norris Center for the Performing Arts 6/12/2006 12:04:47 PM OF LAUGHTER The Norris Theatre’s 3Play Series was introduced in 2004 as a vehicle through which the Norris can produce its own live theatre plays. In contrast to the Norris Presents one-night engagements that are brought in by contracted agents and producers, the 3Play Series are fully produced by the Norris Theatre. The Norris oversees all aspects of its 3Play Series. The producing process involves the hiring of directors and technical crew, the auditioning and casting of actors, and the custom designing and building of original sets. Producing its own plays enables the Norris Theatre to offer longer engagements of each of the plays and promotes the total immersion of theatrical production by the professional staff and crew. For theatergoers, this translates into an opportunity to see live professional theatre close to home and at a reasonable price. In addition, the produced plays provide a venue to showcase local talent from the greater Los Angeles area. The Norris Center for the Performing Arts fully funds the 3Play Series with the generous support of patrons, donors and sponsors. To learn how you can help, call 310/544-0403. Producing Partner LEND ME A TENOR May 4-6 and May 11-13, 2007 It’s 1935, and the Cleveland Grand Opera Company is preparing to present Othello for the gala season opener. The star, Tito Morelli, world famous tenor, is to perform his greatest role. Unfortunately, Mr. Morelli sweeps into the Opera House too late to rehearse with the company. Through a hilarious series of mishaps, the tenor is believed dead and the manager’s assistant, Max, is persuaded to get into Morelli’s costume and try to fool the audience. When Morelli “comes alive,” two Othellos end up on stage. “Uproarious! Hysterical!” said the Variety review.
