Horse Land, winery,
souvenir shop & restaurant
Horse Land is a peaceful stable complex with accompanying riding center
and café. You can take a short guided ride around the paddock with its
mountain views, or just relax with a coffee as the friendly stable staff go
about their work feeding and exercising a variety of beautiful horses.
Children can ride smaller ponies and are sure to enjoy feeding the horses
and some very friendly goats. The winery located beside the stable area
serves mainly as a shop, selling a wide variety of award winning local
wines and fruit juices, a selection of which are also available for tasting.
There are also windows onto the bottling line. Finally, the largest building
with the tower is a shop that houses a veritable cornucopia of local
produce. The three attractions share a single large carpark.

There is nothing like soaking your weary feet in steaming hot water and having eight giant demon s
faces staring down upon you. Free to all, and open year round, this Foot Hot Spring is the perfect place
to go and relax after a long hike or to warm your toes on a cold winter s day. Located just a stone s
throw away from the Foot Hot Spring, Azumino Kenko-kan can be a good place to strike up a
conversation with the locals while soaking in the bath. The Hot Spring and neighboring Shakunage-so
are scheduled to be redeveloped with new hot spring facilities around fall 2016. Then in 2017 the
footbaths will be moved to the same site.

Built over 300 years ago, in idyllic surroundings at the foot of the Japan Alps,
this old house is still home to the Yamaguchi family who live in one wing of
the large residence. The house has seen some distinguished guests, being
used as a hunting lodge by the lord of Matsumoto Castle. The highlight of the
residence is its immaculately landscaped Japanese garden, designed in the
Kyoto style, it features a peaceful carp pond surrounded by beautifully
trimmed trees and stone paths and bridges.

From the parking area, follow the path through a
torii gate and around the corner to reach the
main gate of the shrine, which is also its most
impressive feature. The gate is adorned with
intric atel y c ar ve d s cenes of animals and my thic al creatures . T he
workmanship and artistry is truly spectacular, giving the panels a vivid,
living, appearance. Just before the gate, to the right, is the hand washing
area with a bronze dragon filling the large stone bowl from its mouth.
Look up at the ceiling for another beautiful but easily missed carving.
From the gate follow the path past t wo impressive stone lions and
numerous other objects to reach the shrine itself.

These peaceful ponds are fed by an underground spring, filling them with
exceptionally clear water. Air bubbles up from the bottom producing
beautiful ripples on the surface and a variety of vibrant green plants grow
in the pond, their leaves gently waving in the currents. Large fish cruise
leisurely around, almost appearing in flight due to the crystal clear water.
The ponds are surrounded by a variety of pretty plants and some very
large weeping willows. You can't help being relaxed by the sedate
atmosphere and sound running water. Benches are placed here and there
making this an ideal place to stop for a picnic lunch while exploring
Azumino.

Finally, the largest building
with the tower is a shop that houses a veritable cornucopia of local
produce. The three attractions share a single large carpark.

footbaths will be moved to the same site.

Azumino.

Look up at the ceiling for another beautiful but easily missed carving.
From the gate follow the path past t wo impressive stone lions and

Azumino.
