Over the years, SMEs have performed well at an average annual growth rate of 6.8% p.a. in the period from 2004 to 2010. To achieve a high income nation by 2020, SMEs are critical to the economic transformation as they form the domestic sources of growth and private sector driven growth. The Master Plan is formulated to accelerate the growth of SMEs across all sectors with focus on innovation, technologydriven and globally competitive. She has also initiated several programmes for the development of women entrepreneurs namely: Training Programme for Women Entrepreneurs among OIC Member Countries under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP); Page 4 of 5 National Convention for Women Entrepreneurs; Monthly training courses in enhancing the marketing skills for women entrepreneurs; Benchmarking and Sharing of Best Practices for Women Entrepreneurs in joint collaboration with NPC and FEM; Publication of the Directory of Women Entrepreneur; and Overseas training programmes and study missions for women entrepreneurs. Tan Sri is a lawyer by qualification. She has served as Assistant Secretary General (under Kofi Annan) for Human Resource Management at the United Nations headquarters, New York. Tan Sri was the first Malaysian to hold an Assistant Secretary General post at United Nations. Prior to that, Tan Sri was an Assistant Governor of Central Bank of Malaysia. Tan Sri was also the first female in Malaysia to be appointed as Vice Chancellor/President in university, in which she was posted to University Malaya (UM). Tan Sri has almost 3 decades of experience in the academic and human resource fields. Currently she has been appointed as Non-Executive Director for Nestle (M) Bhd, Cerebos (M) Sdn Bhd, Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Bhd and Chairman for Malaysian Genomics Resource Centre Bhd (MGRC).
