JOIN CANADA’s Largest 10K Run! , See inside for important race day information and special offers! Race Day information Sunday, april 17, 2011 I 9 AM , Congratulations! After all of your training and effort, you are about to become part of a Vancouver tradition and help us celebrate the 2011 Vancouver Sun Run. Most importantly you are also about to embark on a personal achievement that is privately and uniquely yours. That is what The Vancouver Sun Run is all about. A world renowned road race, right here in our beautiful community, helping each and every one of its participants reach out and claim their personal best. From everyone at Sun Run headquarters, the steering committee and all of us at The Vancouver Sun, we thank all of you - the participants, the volunteers and the sponsors for embracing The Vancouver Sun Run and making it yours. On Sunday, April 17, from start to finish, let’s make this year’s inspiring event a run to remember! Translink, including SkyTrain, SeaBus and certain bus routes, opens early on race day. Call 604-953-3333 or visit www.translink.ca for details. If you take SkyTrain, RED, PURPLE, WHITE BIBS: exit at Granville Station. YELLOW, BLUE, GREEN BIBS: exit at Burrard Station. Stadium station is closest to the finish area. West Coast Express runs on race day. Check the “Events” page on www.westcoastexpress.com for details. To avoid line ups, pre-pay your fare with FareCards or FareSavers, visit translink.ca for more information. If you must drive, be forewarned that street closures in the start and finish areas begin at 5:00 a.m. There are plenty of pay parking lots in the downtown core. Look for parking near BC Place Stadium and jog to the start zone. Meet your friends at the start Plan to meet your friends before the race at a landmark outside the start zone. Try the Vancouver Public Library, Canada Post building or Waterfront Station. Avoid landmarks within the start zone, such as the Vancouver Art Gallery, Hyatt Regency, Hotel Vancouver, as they will be awash in Sun Runners. Transport your gear to the finish zone Transport your warm, dry clothes from the start to the finish zone for just $5. Pay at gear check trucks, located at start zone access streets, before 8:30 a.m. on race morning. A Walker’s-only gear check is open on Howe St. until 9:30 a.m. The 2.5K Shaw Mini Sun Runners have their own gear check near the Mini Sun Run start line at Concord Place. Use the perforated gear check tag on your race bib to identify your gear; volunteers will be on hand to provide a plastic bag for your items. Gear must be picked up outside Rogers Arena (@ Gate 16) near the finish line by 1 p.m. Show your race number to claim your gear. Do not check valuables. The Vancouver Sun Run is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Clothing left on the street at the start will be collected after the race and discarded or donated to charity. Race Start Participants are grouped into waves according to their estimated finish time. Waves will start at timed intervals. The competitive wheelchair division starts at 8:40 a.m.; the New Balance Invitational Elite Division starts at 9:00 a.m. Please be patient while the groups ahead of you begin the race. Assemble behind the balloon arch that matches the colour of your race bib. See the map on the back of your race bib for access to streets. Starting positions are on a first-come, first-serve basis within each zone. Arrive early. Yellow zone closes at 8:30 a.m. WALKERS within the PURPLE and RED ZONES are encouraged to arrive at the start by 9:00 a.m., but are advised they will not cross the start line until approximately 9:45 a.m. The ChampionChip timing system times you when you cross the start and finish lines, so there’s no need to deduct the time it takes you to get to the start line from your finish time. For the safety of all participants including children, entrants with strollers, walking poles, baby joggers and assisted wheelchairs MUST start in the Red Zone and must walk the route, regardless of ability. Race Day Information Run, Rejoice, Remember Your Race Fleet Feet Photos will take photos of every runner (over 50,000 images!) and post them at www.fleetfeetphotos.com after the race. Photos are an excellent way to remember your training, effort and achievement, long after you’ve crossed the finish line. Remember to show your bib and Fleet Feet Photos will do the rest. Good Luck! Results Complete finish results, including your name, finish time and placement, will be published in The Vancouver Sun on Monday, April 18. Hunt Personnel Temporarily Yours Corporate Team Challenge results will also be published in that issue, space permitting. Results will be posted at www.sunrun.com later that week. Awards will be mailed to the top finishers in 16 age categories. Timing You will be timed using the ChampionChip Timing System. The Chip will record your start and finish times and provide you with accurate net results. Your time starts when you cross the start line. The Chip is included in the plastic bag with your race number bib. You must be wearing the Chip on your shoe to receive a finish time (see instructions below). NO CHIP, NO RESULTS. YOU MUST CROSS BOTH THE START AND THE FINISH LINES TO RECEIVE A FINISH TIME. Chips are coded and non-transferable, please DO NOT switch chips or let someone else run with your chip. Check your Chip CHECK the code on the WHITE LABEL on your race bib (NOT THE RACE NUMBER) and make sure the LAST 2 CHARACTERS match the code on the back of your chip. If you are not sure, or if they do not match, go to the solutions desk in the tent near the Concord Place Presentation Centre or call 604-689-9441 before Saturday, April 16. Chips cannot be replaced or exchanged on race day. Attach your Chip to your shoe Your Chip must be attached to your shoe to receive a finish time. Loop the supplied plastic strap through the holes in the Chip, string through your shoelace, close the strip and pull snug to your shoe. The centre barrel should be pointing at your toes. Chips are disposable! No need to return your chip at the finish line! Please keep moving when you cross the finish line to the water station so runners don’t back up. Buckets will be available if you would like to recycle your chip. Lost Chidren Complete the form on the back of your child’s Shaw Mini Sun Run race number bib, including a race day contact phone number. Lost children will be brought to the event tent located near the Main Stage at Concord Place and cared for in a secure area until they can be reunited with their families. Check with the information tents located on site at Concord Place. Advise your child(ren) if they become separated from you during the run to look for the Communications Crew that line the route, Medical Crew (blue vests with white cross) or the Volunteer Crew (bright yellow t-shirts). They will bring lost children to the event tent. 4 Race Day Information Post-Race Party Bagels, organic fruit from Sustainable Produce Urban Delivery (Spud.ca), yogurt and plenty of Canadian Springs water will be available. Enjoy the bands performing at the Main Stage, additional activities, games and performers all in the Shaw Kids Zone. Rules of the Road Be courteous and follow the rules of the road. Slow runners or walkers MUST stay right and let others pass on the left. Avoid blocking the route in large groups. Do not stop in the middle of the course! If you must stop, slowly make your way off to the side of the road. Only runners, joggers, walkers and wheelchairs are permitted. Dogs, skateboards, wagons, in-line skates, scooters, roller skis, bicycles and vehicles are strictly prohibited. Participants with these items will be removed from the course and will be disqualified. The 2.5K Shaw Mini Sun Run The 2.5K Shaw Mini Sun Run starts at 8:00 a.m. at Concord Place. Participants DO NOT require a Chip. A clock will be at the start/finish for those who want to check their time, but the event is not timed. Adult escorts are encouraged for participants age eight and under. Adults must register but no fee is required unless requesting a t-shirt. Dozens of mascots and performers entertain the kids at the start area at the Kids Zone (face painting, balloon artistry, musicians and more!). 5 sun run 2011 The Vancouver Sun Run.
