Welcome to our sponsors – Lee Jones, Noel Hendrix for his assistance with printing with Konica Minolta. Mal Day could not attend but we acknowledge his Holiday Magic sponsorship over 13 years. Welcome to local councilor Peter Cumming past player and one of our supporters. The highlight of the season was first grade playing the final looking for back to back premierships only to be well beaten by University. The other success was our Sub Districts team finished second also to be beaten in the final. Seconds to sixths all had their chances being well placed at Christmas only to stagger in the New Year. Given that, second and thirds finished sixth and sixth grade finished fifth two points out of the final four. Thirds to sixths fielded 35 to 45 players so while that continues it is hard to find a winning combination. To the individual winners congratulations. We’ll see them as the night progresses. I must acknowledge the success of the coaching team of Geoff Paulsen and Brendon Smith. I would like to thank the Captains for their efforts. We also fielded teams in Sub districts and Warehouse competitions which contributed so eight teams in all which made sixth grade more competitive. The results we achieved could not have been done without the work done by this leadership group under trying conditions with changes to the format with One dayers and Twenty 20s. Shaun Bennie and Gareth Williams with the challenges of Subbies and Warehouse. Also with selections we recognize the work done by Graham Mapri as Chairman of Selectors and Jake Boyle to get the eight teams on the park each round. This season we had 160 players who turned out for at least one game. Allied to this is the work done by our managers, Graeme Kinnear and Russell Turner. We had three Queensland players in Ryan Broad, Jason Floros, Alister McDermott and. Ben Laughlin played One dayers for Tasmania. In the T20 Big Bash we had five players: Brisbane Heat Ryan Broad and Alister McDermott, Chris Simpson Melbourne Stars, Jason Floros Sydney Thunder, Ben Laughlin Hobart Hurricanes. Cameron Trask and Adam McDermott gained selection in the Imparja Team – rewarded with a trip to India later in the year. Ben McDermott played Qld Under 17. I recognise the continuing efforts of the management Committee – Neil King in carrying the increasing administrative burden, Denise Egan in her first year as Treasurer with the challenges that presents and Graham Mapri for his work in Chairman of Selectors, chairing the sponsorship committee, producing our placemat and keeping our website going. To Tim Prowse driving our business model and future directions, David Brook, Noel Allen, Gary Craig, Brett Watts, Kristian Poole for the contribution they make. We acknowledge our close liaison we have with the Juniors– currently 400 players some of whom play here at Boundary St. The formalizing of our Pathway to cricket – with the successes of younger players in their introduction to grade. The work done in setting this up - the junior committee Paul Wheeler, Bill Gordon the work done by Chris and Anne O’Hehir, then to Graham Mapri, Gary Craig and Ken Healy for the operational side. The results are there to see with the players returning fine individual performances. To our other members who freely give of their time and energy – the scorers, Neil King, Mike Mapri, and Susie Duncan, Mike Tyler for his photography. We have had a couple of meetings with Qld Cricket lately looking at the latest survey there will not be many changes to the format as we know it next season. One change is that Beenleigh will join Ipswich as Ipswich Logan next season. There is also a proposal for Clubs to field 14s and 16s. There’s more change coming – as the current focus is 5 to 15’s where the traditional Saturday games may give way to shorter games during the week under lights. To this end club grounds will be lit over some years if funding can be found. Bill Albury Oval under water – January 2012 2011-12 SPONSORS We acknowledge our current sponsors and thank them for the assistance they provide for without their support we could not continue to provide the facilities we enjoy. We ask our players to support the services they promote. HONOUR BOARD 2011-12 REPRESENTATIVE HONOURS. Queensland selection: Ryan Broad, Jason Floros, Alister McDermott. Second Grade Report 2011-12 – Graham Mapri Second Grade had a fantastic season with a bunch of young players leading from the front only to fall at the final hurdle losing to Norths in the final round and hence missing out on a well deserved semi final appearance by less than half a game. The batting was lead by Matt Smith, Leeland Zeller (after his promotion from Third Grade) and Adam McDermott with Adam hitting a brilliant ton against Valley earning him his First Grade debut later in the season. Brayden Teece was brilliant with both bat and ball early in the season seeing him move into First Grade and perform well at the next level however, his school teaching and cricket coaching prevented him from playing after Christmas. Our bowling was extremely strong showing off First Grade players of the ilk of Robert Fitzgerald, Sean Pearce, Harry Tyler and Finlay Lester. Followed up by Brent Chapman whose successfully season earned him his First Grade Debut late in the season. Overall I rate the season as a huge stepping stone to the future showing the depth which our club will have and does have to be able to cover for our five representative players in First Grade with their replacements not missing a beat and performing at this level. Success is expected for Second Grade for the next few seasons on the basis of the young players who have developed and matured immeasurably as a result of this season. Third Grade Report 2010-11 – Graham Mapri Another season of “what if” for Third Grade finishing less than half a game out of the top four and competing valiantly in every game across all three formats. The season started on a bright note chasing down 300 for the loss of only four wickets against Sandgate on Wayne Broad Oval. Jake Harris scored a hundred before lunch setting up an injury riddled come back season to Wynnum where although he was constantly troubled by his top hand he finished the season with a big score in Second Grade against Norths. Leeland Zeller started his bumper season with 73 and then followed it up with a second innings 56 against South Brisbane and 116 against Toombul ensuring Third Grade wouldn’t see him for the remainder of the season as he dominated Second Grade attacks. Brendan Allen scored a brilliant 87 but from there on struggled with the bat throughout the season alternating from Second and Third Grade all season. James Allen, after starting the season in Fourth Grade, proved to be our leading batsman with 212 runs at 35.33 with the highlight being 81* against University to enable us to hold on for a draw against a star studded full strength university line up. Levi Jamieson was our leading bowler with 20 wickets at 24.00 earning him a call up to Second Grade late in the season. Many “fill in” players were used throughout the season including all three Poole brothers as a result of our First Grade representatives. The Pathway Squad developed by Chris O’Hehir and Ken Healy proved to be a success providing Third Grade with a vision to the future unearthing Sean Finnimore and Todd Dawson who proved to be very good for us in their limited appearances before succumbing to school cricket after Christmas. After Christmas with Chris Hasenkam moving to Melbourne to do further studies I was required to move up and Captain twos and Brett Watts took over from me in threes. Brett’s efforts were fantastic leading the team well particularly with the many ins and outs late in the season. But… as previously mentioned yet again it was so near but so far as another season without semi final cricket was the end result. Fifth Grade Report 2011-12 – Jake Boyle A Bright Start Our season started with a great mix of new faces mixed in with some regulars. Old stagers Humphries, Gray, Hutchinson and Edie were joined by English Import Mark Corbett, Wests recruit Clint Stevens, Chris Hasenkam’s brother Daniel and talented young keeper Liam Hanley. We were also lucky enough to have some brief special appearances from Kristian and Justin Poole and Mick Stone added some experience and guidance. Needless to say we were highly optimistic about the season with so much talent and skill on the team list. Our first batch of two day games had us off to a solid start with two wins, two draws and a loss. Our first round win over Sandgate was an excellent start to the season with Kristian Poole battling through long spells in the heat to take 4/21 before Mark Corbett showed his promise with a late partnership to get us home. Mark continued his good form with an explosive 48 in our second game against Wests on Dunlop Park. Well poised to record a big win after scoring 9/216 on Day 1 we were cruelly denied on Day 2 by a large puddle on one crease washing out the match. Our third match saw us return to Dunlop Park where we were handed a lesson in determination by a strong Souths side. After Humpho’s 5/52 almost single-handedly bundled Souths out for a paltry 110, we were unable to make the most of our great work in the field crumbling for just 94. A tough loss made all the harder by having to play on the worst pitch and ground in the history of sport. Round four will be forever remembered as Ben Klemm’s Big Day Out. Brenton Williams ripped through Toombul’s top order with an excellent 5/30 limiting them to 174 on a belter at home. Some early wobbles were halted by Dave Edie’s 53 before a late fight-back from Toombul had us on the edge. With 17 runs needed and just three wickets in hand, Klemm showed that his skills could indeed match his selfperpetuated hype guiding us home with his grade-best score of 31. Bird grabbed four more wickets in the second dig to have nine for the match and give us a slim shot at an outright win. With 67 needed off 7 overs we came painfully close to a huge win over one of the strongest sides in the competition ending the match at 2/57. Our match at University was a tale of two weeks with Uni smashing 360 on Day 1. Remarkably their top score was 65, and more remarkably they scored almost every run from an edge or a massive slog. When they’re on, they’re on! In response we managed to bat out day 2 with a record third wicket partnership between Liam Hanley and Clint Stevens of 172. Stevens fell for an impressive 94 while Hanley was unable to reach his century by the close of play remaining 95* and carrying his bat. An exceptional performance from the youngster! As the season turned from two day games to limited overs we were well poised in fourth place. Silly Season The change from two dayers to limited overs hasn’t always been smooth for our lower grades. This season was no different with losses in our first two one day matches against the strong Souths and Valleys sides. Valleys blasted 228 against us, a total even Mick Stone (68) couldn’t reel in. Souths showed that they are the masters of scoring runs on dodgy wickets compiling an excellent 192 on a very two paced pitch. With spirits dropping we were faced with more challenges as players moved up the grades to cover unavailability while we had to deal with our own unavailabilities in lower grades. A washout against Wests was followed by another strong win over Sandgate in a T20. Stevens and the returning Chamera Perera gave us a strong target to bowl to with youngster James Healy excelling in his debut. Our return to the diabolical Dunlop Park the following week for back-to-back T20’s started well with a 3 run win over Toombul set up by new recruit Darryn Fisher’s 40*, completed by another excellent performance from Healy. From such a high we crashed to a miserable low in the afternoon’s match with table-topping Norths dismissing us for 50. Some interesting interpretations of the laws of cricket certainly hampered our efforts. Norths were in trouble at 5/30 when a very tough dropped catch gave them the air they needed to pass us 5 down with a couple of overs to spare. Still in contention at Christmas with four wins, four losses and three draws. Post Christmas Slump As with last season the Post Christmas session proved our downfall. Turning the corner on the edge of the top four we succumbed to a catastrophic loss of players failing to win a game in our last six with four losses and two draws. Our final three matches were a perfect illustration with 11 players selected for the first time in fifth grade, most having not played grade cricket before this season. Despite the efforts and the potential, we were clearly no match for the more experienced and significantly older and stronger opposition. First up after Christmas was a tough one dayer against Wests. After bowling them out for a very gettable 132, we were unable to get any momentum falling 18 runs short. This was followed by an even closer loss to Uni by just 9 runs in a game where Dan Hasenkam showed his all-round skill with a near matchwinning 44*. Brisbane’s wet hit hard over the next month. An exceptional day against the high flying Valleys was spoiled by bad weather second week. Chamera’s breezy 78 and Brodie Hick’s breakout 34 took us to an imposing 252. The following round at Redlands was decided by the toss with the incorrect call allowing Redlands to make the most of a moist deck to bowl us out for 117 with only Josh Craig’s 44 giving us respectability in a disappointing loss. Our second last match against Wests was a debacle. Lucky to gather 11 players at 10:00pm the night before the match we were sent in and battled to 121 in just under six hours. The aggression from our opponents was unmatched by anything I’ve experienced in more than 25 seasons of cricket – especially disappointing considering the youthful side we were fielding. Hopefully it doesn’t taint our young player’s perception of grade cricket. The second week washout was almost welcomed to avoid having to experience more of the same. Our final match was another example of the challenges we faced after Christmas with youngsters pulled from our second and third division juniors teams just to get 11 players on the field. Fortunately, each of the young lads called on showed enthusiasm and effort giving us great hope for the future. 117 was never going to be enough and Norths cruised to a rain affected win four wickets down. The final result was a disappointing eighth place on the final table with 4 wins, 8 losses and 5 draws. The Wrap Cruelled by loss of players once again we slide from contention to making up the numbers after Christmas. Another 45 players were cycled through the team with 30 playing less than 5 matches and 13 junior players called on. Hopefully we can build some consistency to our players’ base next season but history shows that we’re more likely to experience the same turnover again. Standout Performers Despite a poor end following another promising start, there were some exceptional performers throughout the season. Liam Hanley – 95* vs Uni and a great opening bat and keeping prospect James Healy – clever young left armer who is one of the most intelligent and competitive young th cricketers to play in 5 grade in the past few years Clint Stevens – scored a memorable 94 at Uni and blasted a Shewag-like 40 in a T20 Brenton Williams – 9 wickets against Toombul and would have played up the grades if not for injury David Humphries – agonisingly close to 1 million grade wickets with experience and leadership that was invaluable Dave Edie – inconsistent season by his standards but a class above when he got going Josh Craig – slowly building confidence in grade and definitely a future leader at the club Daniel Hasenkam – season cut short by coaching commitments but undoubtedly a valuable grade player for many years to come Fifth Grade versus Sandgate-Redcliffe on Ian Droney Oval – 24 September 2011 Sixth Grade versus South Brisbane on Ian Droney Oval – 14 October 2011 SIXTH GRADE RESULTS- WEP HARRIS SHIELD. Warehouse Report 2011-12 – Gareth Williams Statistically our season wasn’t a great one-we lost every game, the games we didn’t lose were because of rain, and showing how great a captain I am, the games we only lost on first innings points were the games I didn’t play. We were placed in a grade higher than last year, which wasn’t helpful for us and struggled to be consistently competitive. But cricket’s about more than winning and losing, isn’t it? Please tell me so? The major positive was the great bunch of guys we had playing each week and at some stages even had selection dilemmas and had to drop players. Quite unlike previous seasons! Luke Powell who was my co-captain for the season, also Rohit Patil and Pat Connolly who stood in when Luke and I were both injured, ably supported me. Unfortunately the scorebook was lost post-season. I’m blaming first grade as I left it on the bar. Drones has been having all sorts of conniptions over the loss of valuable statistics, so sorry mate. Ross Jacobsen was the pick of the batsmen, though there were some other solid innings no one really got going and posting big scores was out downfall. Our bowlers performed better and most of the guys chimed in for wickets through the season. Lachlan Hudson won a tight contest for the bowling award. Fielding was a big problem for us, with too many dropped catches! A captain’s curse. In my mind the Warehouse team operates to give older or less able blokes a good afternoon’s cricket enjoyment and provide a feeder system for young guys to experience senior cricket. One please aspect of the latter is that all the junior pathway guys went on to play grade cricket at some stage through the season. There’s enough evidence to see a bright future ahead. Thanks to Chris and Annie O’Hehir for heading this up. Once again thanks to the club for giving me the opportunity to captain a team. It’s a great club with a proud history and a positive future. My age is catching up with me so I’ve decided to retire from playing but still plan to be involved with the club. HISTORY – from season 2011-12 The following stories are from the history pages of the Gunner’s Newsletter for the 2011-12 season. 1. Round 1 against Sandgate Redcliffe produced five wins from six matches leading from the top with a record opening partnership of 238 by Ryan Broad (102*) and Will Prowse (131) in the second innings following their first innings century partnership of 108. It was Broad’s tenth first grade ton and Prowse’s sixth and overtook the 197 partnership set by Peter Cantrell and Mark Tooley in October 1990. The opening century partnerships (108 and 238) in each innings against Sandgate Redcliffe by Broad and Prowse is the first time in the club’s history that this has been recorded. Broad’s 191 runs against Sandgate means he has now scored 7000 Career runs and Prowse’s 176 takes him past 4000 Career runs. There were four centuries scored on the same day which is only the third time it has been done - only bettered by five centuries against Toombul on 30 October 1993. Younger brother Brendan Allen hit his highest third grade score of 87 in his 18 match rd and Leeland Zeller hit his best third grade score 73 in his 23 match. Ken Healy celebrated his return to Wynnum after eight seasons hitting 171 - the highest sixth grade score against Sandgate Redcliffe - passing Troy Rafton’s 138 in Feb 2000. Healy has now scored 5000 Career th runs currently 12 on Career batting aggregate list. 2. In scoring 5/362 chasing 316 Third grade scored its highest innings against Sandgate Redcliffe in 15 seasons. Finlay Lester bowled a personal best in taking 9 wickets for the match against Sandgate in a losing second grade match – 4/43 and 5/92. Jake Harris scored 103 in third grade in his return to the club after a stint at Northern Suburbs. Parteek Singh took a six wicket haul in sixth grade in his debut match. Ben McDermott became first grade’s player number 272 on debut against Sandgate Redcliffe on 17 September. At 16 years 9 months and 6 days McDermott became the Club’s second youngest player behind Greg Ritchie at 16 years 7 months 27 days just edging out Harry Tyler at 16 years 10 months 5 days into third place. 3. Steve Inwood returned to the Club to play sixth grade in Round 1 after an absence of 13 seasons where he last captained second grade in 1997-98. He had previously played from 1979 to 1988. Inwood was one of the players to play the first game on the new Boundary St number 1 – in fourth grade against Eastern Suburbs on 24 & 25 October 1981 - which Wynnum won. 4. Round 3 against South Brisbane produced two nervous ninety performances. Willl Prowse was run out on 96. Brayden Teece scored 95 his second having scored 97 against Beenleigh in October 2002. James Allen’s caught out on 99 at Sandgate became the tenth instance of a batsman’s dismissal on 99. 199 99* 99* 99* 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 T.M.Dempsey J.Bright M.R.Hayward S.A.Prestwidge D.J.Allen M.L.Apps W.R.Broad M.V.Tooley M.A.Gaskell A.J.Lambrose J.MacLeod D.D.Alderson J.P.Boyle J.A.Allen C.T.J.Trask South Brisbane Boundary St 26.10.02 Beenleigh Logan Valley Toombul Toombul Toombul University South Brisbane South Brisbane Sandgate Redcliffe Valley Toombul Sandgate Redcliffe University Dauth Park Boundary St Wynnum Memorial Shaw Park Boundary St St Lucia Boundary St Jack Cooke Boundary St Goodwin Oval La Frantz Trevor Barsby WEP Harris 30.09.95 22.01.04 16.11.74 21.11.81 31.10.87 26.02.89 30.09.89 11.12.93 12.11.94 28.09.02 01.12.07 17.09.11 19.11.11 Alister McDermott returned 7 for 50 against South Brisbane – his best return since joining Wynnum Manly in September 2010 and earned him a return to the Rep ranks. th David Humphries 5 for 52 against Western Suburbs at Dunlop Park was his 11 five wicket haul. 5. For the second time this season we recorded 5 wins from 6 matches - with two centuries against Toombul with maiden tons by Leeland Zeller 116 in third grade and Todd Dawson121 in sixth grade. th Zeller’s ton gives him a season average of 122.50 and is the 70 scored in third grade while Dawson’s is th the 20 in sixth grade. Dawson combined with H.S.Jones in a fourth wicket 142 run partnership which fell just 6 runs short of the fourth wicket record. While Saturday’s results were Sundays was even better when first and second grade secured wins against Northern Suburbs in the first round of the John McNoulty Cup one day competition to take the weekend’s results to 7 wins from 8 matches with the younger players coming to the fore. Luke Waters joined the primary club with a first ball duck against Toombul at Bill Albury. He recovered in the second innings to be 88* at stumps having put on a 93 opening partnership with Will Prowse (46). Brayden Teece continued his good early season form with 72* against Toombul – his third 50 in a row returning an average of 87.33. th Ryan Poole returned to third grade after 18 seasons to record 46 in his 296 Career match. Brett Watts (1680) has overtaken Stuart Taylor (1672) to land in third place in Third grade aggregate runs from 82 matches. Graham Mapri on 1612 from 65 matches needs a further 61 to also overtake Taylor. With 5 two day games remaining both players should overtake second highest aggregate Steve McNamee’s 1737 runs. th 6. The current round against University of Queensland resulting in a draw was the 66 time the first grade teams had met. Analysis of the results from 51 seasons shows the honours shared with University securing 5 more outright wins. WM 2 Outright wins, 23 first innings wins, 10 draws, 24 first innings losses and 7 outright losses. The draw against University took first grade’s unbroken sequence to 20 matches in the 2 day format where they have not been beaten. The last loss was against Toombul on 20 February 2010. There were th two washed out draws to complete the 2010 season and then in 2011 the premiership winning 50 season there were two draws, four washed out draws and seven wins. In the current season there have been four wins and a draw. First grade has now played nine games without a loss this season which equals the record start to a season – five two day, two one day and two T20s. Checking similar starts in previous premiership winning seasons reveals that in 1980-81 there were nine 2 day games before a loss was registered. In 1982-83 there were two draws and two losses and then seven wins. In 1995-96 there were four wins, than a loss, then eight wins – so 12 wins from 13 matches finishing with a win over University in the final. 7. Justin Thompson achieved a rare feat in scoring a century in each innings of a match in Round 5 with 125 and 123 against University in Sixth grade at Ian Droney. In fact this has been done only once before in 51 seasons in all grades – by Justin Poole 163 and 100* in Second Grade, also against University, on 27.11.93 and 4.12.93. Thompson now has three career tons. Century in each innings of a match. Second Grade: 163 100* Sixth Grade: 125 123 J.R. POOLE J.R. The nervous nineties file continues to grow with Cameron Trask missing an initial first grade ton on 99 at WEP Harris. In fifth grade Liam Hanley 95* and Clint Stevens 94 made a record third wicket partnership of 172 in securing a draw against University. Hanley batted all day to remain not out at stumps. This partnership surpassed the previous 1986 record of 145 by local councillor Peter Cumming (41)and Phil O’Sullivan (94) against Eastern Suburbs on 5 January 1986. In a coincidence of what could have been – Wynnum Manly played Eastern Suburbs in a Saturday /Sunday round on 4 & 5 January 1986. We see from above that Peter Stones scored two 90s in third grade and Phil O’Sullivan scored 94 in the previous fifth grade record partnership. Further analysis reveals that there were two centuries also scored in that round. Mark Gaskell scored 122 at Bottomley st Park in first grade- the 1 of his 3 tons scored that season. Andrew Short scored 103 at Boundary St 2 in fourth grade. Peter Cumming still holds the fifth grade first wicket partnership of 186 with Tom Redfern, against University at Balmoral High on 19 October 1985. 9. Jason Floros hit a personal best of 128* off 131 balls in the John McKnoulty Cup one dayer against Toombul at Bill Albury to record his second first grade century. Floros combined with Geoff Paulsen 44* from 34 balls to make an 111 run fifth wicket partnership. When Floros hit his first century – 123 against Sandgate Redcliffe he again combined with Paulsen (80) - in a 205 run record first grade fourth wicket partnership on 12 December 2009. 10. The mid season review prompted a look at Ryan Broad’s career. When he was appointed Queensland Captain for the Ryobi Cup match against South Australia at Adelaide on 23 November and then against Western Australia at the Gabba on 11 February. He also was named captain for the Chairman’s XI against India at Manuka Oval in Canberra on 15 and 16 December. Broad becomes the second “home grown” player, with Chris Simpson to captain Queensland. Stuart Law captained Queensland while at Wynnum but had previously played for Eastern Suburbs and Valley. th In 17 seasons with Wynnum Manly Broad has scored 7363 runs. Now in his 14 first grade season he has scored 4707 runs at 35.39 from 123 matches – the most matches played by any current first grade player. In scoring 102* against Sandgate Redcliffe in Round 1 he has now scored the most centuries in first grade (11) overtaking his uncle, Mark Gaskell, on 10 and father, Wayne on 9, and has 14 career centuries being third behind Gaskell (18) and Justin Poole (17). Broad has scored the highest individual scores in first grade in all three forms of the game – 241 against University in the two day comp, 207 against Beenleigh in limited overs and 135 from 51 balls in a partnership of 228 with Chris Simpson against University in T20. He shares the Club’s highest partnership (first grade third wicket) of 300 against University with Chris Hughes in 2006. In November 2003 he scored three centuries (104, 132 and 164*) in consecutive innings - the first time it has been done. In scoring 164* against South Brisbane he carried his bat - only the second time it has been done in 51 seasons of first grade. th 11. With two wickets against Redlands Chris Simpson achieved 200 first grade wickets in his 99 match. Tim Evans, in taking the first four wickets in Redlands first innings, now totals 51 first grade wickets from 24 matches. He followed this up with a person best of 40 in top scoring in Wynnum’s innings. Adam McDermott (273) and Taylor Browne (274) debuted in first grade on 14 January against Western Suburbs at Graceville. McDermott played three matches and Browne played seven matches taking 10 catches and four stumpings. Browne had previously played six first grade games for Northern Suburbs. th Brent Chapman became the 275 first grade player when he debuted on the second day against Redlands on 4 February taking his first wicket for nine runs from six overs. Shaun O’Hehir returned a personal best when he took a 10 wicket haul against Redlands with 6 for 26 and 4 for 17 in sixth grade. 12. Sixth grade scored a rare first innings tie – 120 with Redlands at Ian Droney on 4 and 11 February and then won outright by dismissing Redlands for 65 and making 66 runs without loss. 13. First grade final University 605 and 2/390 def Wynnum Manly 129.While the first grade final did not result in a win it never the less produced some historical events. University’s 605 was the highest score hit against Wynnum , passing the previous highest of 419 by Toombul in 1977/78 and passing University’s highest against us of 377 scored on 12 November 2011 It was the first time three centuries were scored in an innings against us ( N.J.Reardon 157, C.A.Phillipson 128, J.R.Turner 117). The second innings of 2/390 was the eleventh time in which two centuries were scored in an innings against us and the third instance by University. The second innings produced a record opening partnership of 329 with two centuries (M.R.Brundle 160 and H.Gardiner 189). The hoodoo of every batsman in a completed innings scoring at least 10 runs raised itself for even in that huge first innings total there was one University batsman who did not score 10 J.Holliday falling for 1 run. While one University batsman may have failed to score 10 runs there were six ducks in Wynnum’s innings R.A.Broad, L.J.Waters, W.J.Prowse, B.R.McDermott, G.J.Paulsen, and A.C.McDermott as they lost 6/11 at innings end. Three Wynnum bowlers conceded 100 runs A.C.McDermott 4/117, T.P.Evans 0/101 and J.S.Floros 3/150.
