The Kam Fan Awards is a celebration of work from our industry that is uniquely representative of Hong Kong. But the quality that it recognizes is nothing short of world-class. Our
industry is brutal in its demands. And work born of great ideas and driven by great passion
deserves that recognition.
As advertising and the creative landscape continue their dramatic transformation, I would
like to encourage all of our colleagues also to continue – to fight the Good fight. And
reach instead for Great. To create, innovate, defy and redefine work that is worthy not
just here, but on the world stage.
On behalf of the judges, the Kam Fan Organizing Committee and the Organizer, the
HK4As, I thank and congratulate every participant on the ground-breaking work that we
have seen, and I invite you to celebrate your collective achievements. Well done.

Norman started his advertising career in his home base in Singapore in 1982, and went
on to build regional expertise in a wide range of markets. His roles span Grey, Leo Burnett, JWT Taiwan, JWT South East Asia, Bates China and Lowe China. In Oct 2014, he
took the role of North Asia Chief Creative Officer and China Chairman for JWT, based
in Shanghai.
He has judged major local regional and international award shows, including D&AD in
2006, The One Show in 2008, Spikes Asia in 2011 and 2013, and served as Jury president
for the China 4A Creative Award in both 2011 and 2013, as well as at the 2014 Taiwan 4A.
He is also on the Advisory Committee for the annual One Show China Creative Workshop and the LongXi Awards.
Norman’s work has also been recognized at creative shows, worldwide. He led Lowe
China and Buick to win “The Best of the show” in 2013 and 2014 at both the China 4A
Creative award and The Great Wall Creative Awards. Under his leadership, the agency
also brought home a Gold, Silver and two Bronzes Lions from Cannes in 2014 in Print,
Outdoor and Film for the public service campaign “Human Traffic Signs”, created for
Buick/Shanghai GM. The same Campaign also won the Grand Prix in public service at
Busan AdStar International Advertising Festival and Four Golds, Four Silvers and Four
Bronzes at the Spikes Asia in 2014.
In 2014, Campaign Brief Asia and Longxi Review ranks Norman Tan #1 Creative Director in Greater China.
Norman is also a sought-after speaker at industry events, and contributes articles regularly to the Fashion Magazine in Singapore, as well as Ad Magazine Taiwan and China.

2014 saw Nils awarded Greater China’s Creative of the Year accolade, by Campaign
Magazine. He also ranked 4th most awarded Creative Director in the world, and his
Penguin ‘Mic’ campaign was the most awarded print in the world, according to the
UK based Won Directory.
Since beginning her career, Vivian Chang has held steadfast to her principle of “giving
life” to the advertising she produces. As an idea comes forth, creative and marketing
considerations work together to propel the idea forward. With an impressive record,
Vivian feels that the success of an advertising campaign is the result of complete integration of the advertising process.
Originally a member of the British Olympic fencing squad, Nils studied graphics
and was then offered a place at the Royal College of Art.
Having begun his career in London as a designer, he moved on to creating award-winning advertising campaigns for the likes of Land Rover, Ford, The Royal Mail, Woolworths and ING Barings.
In 2001 he left the UK for Tokyo, as Executive Creative Director of TBWA Japan, continuing to create highly awarded work on brands such as Adidas, Chivas and Nissan.
Next Beijing, as Greater China Executive Creative Director Ogilvy & Mather, where
he led them to become one of the most awarded agency groups in the world and the
first Chinese agency to win a D&AD Yellow Pencil.
Before joining United Communication Group, She was ECD at Publicis Taiwan, CD at
JWT Taiwan and as CD at Saatchi & Saatchi Taiwan. She has been responsible for many
extremely successful new product launches in Taiwan, such as Lexus and Vidal Sassoon,
as well as campaigns that built high brand awareness in a very short time for NISSAN
TEANA and ASUS Mobile phone.
To Vivian, advertising brings the greatest challenges, and as a result, the greatest
feeling of accomplishment. Never one to turn down a challenge, Vivian is obsessed with
making her clients the name on everyone’s lips.
Then to Y&R as China President & Chief Creative Officer, where he was responsible for an
astonishing creative resurgence within the agency, guiding them to become the most
awarded agency in the country at Cannes for two consecutive years, and earning
them the 2014, China Campaign Agency of the Year accolade.
Now, in 2015 Nils rejoins a resurgent TBWA as President and Chief Creative Officer,
Greater China.

Eric Cruz is a multi-award-winning creative leader, designer and educator who brings with
him over 18 years of industry experience. He is a ‘hybrid creative’ – fusing design, film,
moving media, music, art and technology to bring a unique perspective to advertising in
the connected age.
Kimura loves to cross borders. In his younger years, he backpacked through over 35 countries. No wonder, then, that after joining Hakuhodo in 1992 he established a unique planning and creative style that eliminates the boundaries of strategic, creative, digital, PR and
media development and works seamlessly through the entire process. In 2006 Kimura established Hakuhodo Kettle, a new type of creative agency that plans and implements innovative campaigns that often go beyond the bounds of traditional advertising methods.
Truly innovative ideas can come from anywhere. For this reason, everyone at Kimura’s
company is familiar with every field of communication. Bubbling up and serving his clients new ideas, his goal is for Hakuhodo Kettle to set the whole world aboil.
Having recently joined AKQA as Executive Creative Director, Eric is leading the growing
Greater China team – helping clients such as Nike, Jordan and Tencent create the future
through innovative brand storytelling.
Eric has held various leadership positions in agencies across Asia, Europe and the US,
developing a creative model for the agency of the future. He was previously Executive
Creative Director at Leo Burnett Malaysia, and also co-founded W+K Tokyo Lab, a creative
think tank and experimental music label.
His work has been recognised at the Tokyo ADC Awards, Cannes Lions, ADC NY, ONE
Show, D&AD and the Japan Media Arts Festival.
Kimura has won over 100 international awards, including 10 Lions at Cannes, 4 Grand Lotuses at ADFEST, 2 Grand prix at Adstars, Grand prix at New York Festivals, Yellow pencil
at D&AD, and more. He has also served as a member of more than 20 international award
shows including the Promo jury and Titanium & Integrated jury at Cannes Lions, Promo
& Direct Jury president at ADFEST, Executive Jury at New York Festivals, Digital Jury at
ADC Global, and so on. He has given speeches at ADFEST in 2012, Spikes Asia in 2012 and
2013, and Cannes Lions in 2013 and 2014.
To mentor the next generation of talent and ignite creative dialogue, Eric regularly delivers lectures and has taught Design and Moving Media at the Center for Creative Studies
in Detroit, Temple University in Tokyo, and The One Academy in Kuala Lumpur.
Originally from the Philippines, Eric grew up in the US and Spain. He studied Graphic
Design and Design for Film and Digital Media in the US and Europe during the heyday of
the internet.

Having failed to enable his surfing to finance an enviable lifestyle, John emerged in Singapore, where an initial foray into adland was marked by six years at Batey Ads. Seven years
at Saatchi’s followed, a highlight of which was getting the entire Tokyo office arrested.
With time off for bad behaviour (read: eight months surfing) he joined TBWA, where his
work for adidas - Vertical Football, Impossible Sprint, et al - soon earned worldwide acclaim.
After the journey around the Creative world, Saatchi & Saatchi is where his heart is.
After another year off surfing in Hawaii and Bali, John joined Google in late 2012 as Chief
Creative Officer, Asia-Pacific. Based in Singapore, he leads a team that is hubbed in Singapore, Tokyo and Sydney.
John has won multiple gold lions at Cannes, multiple gold pencils at the One Show, the
grand prix and multiple golds at the Clios, best of show (twice) and multiple golds at
AdFest, multiple golds at Spikes Asia, multiple golds at AWARD, the ADC prize (gold) in
Tokyo, multiple acceptances in D&AD, Communication Arts and The Work book.
He was named Asia’s Creative of the Year in 2004 and 2008 (the only person ever to ! win
it twices). He topped the Creative Rankings in Asia/Pacific in 2004. He’s been asked to
judge and speak at pretty much every major award show on the planet.
A fast forward thinker and a super fast talker Golf was born and bred in Bangkok, Thailand,
his mind and heart were blown open to the creativity in varied continents. Since leaving Saatchi & Saatchi Bangkok in 2005 after 3 years after gaining his Bachelor in Visual
Communication Arts from Assumption University, Bangkok, he spent 9 whole years on his
creative journey from Y&R, Hong Kong, Bartle Bogle Hegarty in Singapore and London, JWT
in Tokyo, Jung Von Matt in Hamburg, Walker in Zurich to Ogilvy Shanghai before returning
to where he started.
While on his journey , Golf was also collecting some awards as keepsakes along the way,
namly Cannes Gold Lions, D & AD, Clio, YoungGuns, ADC Germany, ADC*E (Europe), Media Asian Spike, Adfest, AWARDS (Australia), Adman (Thailand) and Bangkok Art Director
Association. Thankfully, he encountered many global brands such as Coca – Cola, Vodafone, Lux, Johnnie Walker, Hypo Swiss Private Bank, Axe, Barclays Bank, AEG, Unilever, SC
Johnson and Mercedes-Benz.
Besides, Golf wishes he could have a career in chanting and meditation (though, he is a true
Christian practitioner!!!) , tends to sweat a lot in Thailand and happily married with a lovely
young son.
He’d give it all back for more time in the water.

As Corporate Vice President, Steven is in charge of Tencent’s online media’s marketing solution and advertising business with a special eye on alignment of Tencent Video, mobile,
portal and social advertising.
A graduate of the prestigious Kellog-HKUST EMBA programme and ex-Chairman of the
HK4As Media Committee, Steven has extensive Asia, China and Hong Kong experience.
He was the Executive Media Director of Saatchi & Saatchi HK and was awarded as Best
Media Director in Asia by British Airways.
Steven later headed various offices and functions of ZenithOptimedia China and Hong
Kong for 18 years and became CEO & President of Greater China in 2010. Oversaw the
company’s operations in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, he led the company to
become Best Agency of the Year from R3-CAA, Best Agency of the ROI Festival, and no. 1
in RECMA in 2010.
He has won numerous advertising awards, including 2014 Marketing Influencer of ifeng.
com, 2013 Ad Person, 2012-14 VMarketing China Top 100 Marketers, Top 10 Ad Persons of
China, and Top 10 Digital Marketers of China. As a seasoned writer and speaker for industry titles and forums, Steven is also Adjunct Professor in several universities in China and
Hong Kong, as well as one of the few 4As Strategic Consultants for CCTV since 2009.
Recently Steven’s interest lies in Internet of Things, integration of new and traditional media, especially communication strategy for mobile media and content.

Henry Chu is a designer, programmer, and new media artist. Born in Hong Kong in
1970s, Henry graduated from the Electrical and Computer Engineering programme at
the University of Auckland, and founded pill & pillow in 2004. The independent studio
has won more than 120 local and international awards including Cannes Lions, Webb
and One Show. His iPad music apps Squiggle were exhibited in MoMA New York. Henry
was also a speaker at Business of Design Week, TEDxKowloon and TEDxTaipei.
Steve Garton has worked on the client, advertising agency, media owner and market research sides of the business, based in the UK, Australasia, and Asia Pacific.
He has developed entirely new services for sectors such as the Internet, and built
multi-regional surveys such as EMS and PAX, the currency for upscale audiences in
Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa.
He is particularly focused on the discovery of new insights into the relationship
between media and its audiences, and how digital technology will influence the
future of advertising.
Steve is a frequent public speaker at major international events and holds an MA at
Oxford University.

audience measurement solutions. Under Ms Gill’s leadership, her teams have successfully
delivered business impact by enabling client organizations to connect closely with consumers and satisfy wide-ranging business needs with latest solutions in today’s ever-changing

Ms. Gill is a veteran in the media, advertising and market research industry with more than

marketing research that spans from US, Canada to Asia Pacific. She is well versed in marketing research solutions and the latest media measurement technologies, and has held senior
positions in both the research buyer and supplier sides.

Isabella Mann has worked in the jewellery industry for nearly 15 years. She started her
career at Tiffany and Co, working in the eCommerce department in London. After 4 years,
she moved to Richemont and worked for Cartier, in the London Communication and
Events office.
A veteran marketer with around three decades’ experience of Hong Kong and Greater
China’s competitive media/advertising scene, Alex joined RoadShow Holdings Limited as
MD in April 2008.
Having worked over the next few years for British brands, Links of London and the AIM
listed, Theo Fennell Ltd she moved to PANDORA at the beginning of 2011. Isabella helped
build the UK brand to one of the biggest retailers on the British high street with over 120
stores nationwide. She also oversaw the launch of the company’s first estore which is
now a major revenue stream for the UK business. She is now based in Hong Kong overseeing the communication and marketing in Asia, for PANDORA - the region is made up
of 12 markets.

Over the years, Alex has worked with a lengthy list of the Territory’s leading advertising

David leads North Asian Media activities for Unilever. He has more than 30 years’
agency experience in advertising, media planning and marketing ranging from local assignments for the British Government to global work for Unilever and Shell.
Deryk entered the advertising and media industry in the mid 80’s at McCann-Erickson
and was promoted to Media Department Head in 1994. He joined as General Manager
and was instrumental to the launch of Carat Media Hong Kong in 1997. In 2001 Deryk
became the management partner of Market Catalyst International, a local full services
communication agency start up. The company grew to become the largest independent
advertising agency in Hong Kong and was acquired by Bates HK in 2004. Deryk then spent
4 years as Executive Director at Bates HK overseeing its media and full services business,
as well as new business and staff development. In 2008 Deryk joined OMD Taiwan as
Managing Director and successfully launched the PHD brand with the win of HP and Unilever. Deryk returned to Hong Kong in 2010 as Managing Director of Havas Media till 2014,
during which he doubled the company billing and tripled its revenue in 3 years.
Since 2010 he has worked for Unilever, after 7 years with its media agency Mindshare,
where he led the agency’s Unilever team in APAC and gained extensive experience of
developing markets.
David works across multiple markets and his high-performing multicultural team is dispersed around the region. He specializes in selection & management of digital agencies
& media agencies, FMCG / CPG marketing, digital media including social, search, RTB &
programmatic buying, 360° planning & media innovation. media buying, negotiation and
implementation, media budget setting & effectiveness measurements, and international
projects & managing virtual teams.
