A Word from CelticFest’s Artistic Director & Producer
Welcome to Edgewater Casino CelticFest 2008 – Western
Canada’s biggest and most entertaining celebration of
Celtic culture. We’re thrilled to be back, and proud to be
celebrating our 5th birthday!
We’re all set to bring you dozens of outstanding music,
dance and spoken word performances and workshops
over five days and four nights. This year for the first time, CelticFest will bring international artists to the city as well as talented Canadians. Our headliners include the
immensely popular Battlefield Band from Scotland, the brilliant violin supergroup Celtic
Fiddle Festival representing Ireland, Brittany (France) and Quèbec, Vancouver favourites Spirit of the West, Celtic guitar virtuoso Tony McManus, award-winning pipe and
bodhran player Steafan Hannigan (Northern Ireland), and top fiddler and stepdancer
Wendy MacIsaac with guitarist Patrick Gillis (Cape Breton). We’re also presenting some
of Celtic music’s brightest young performers, including Kierah, Caitlan Read, Chrissy
Crowley and Qristina and Quinn Bachand.
Your favourite CelticFest annual events are back, including our star-studded opening
concert The World’s Greatest Céilídh, the BIG St. Pat’s Night Out, A Whisky Kiss and
the festival’s late-night, intimate Artists’ Lounge. And this year there’s no-holds-barred
excitement at the Battle of the Bards, a supercharged literary pub crawl that pits three
great Celtic wordsmiths against each other. There are another 50+ events programmed
for your enjoyment - many of which are free of charge!
The 5th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be a family-friendly highlight with over 100
entries and 2,000 participants, and families will also love the weekend Celtic Village
Street Market and KidsZone activities.
CelticFest has become a huge success for many reasons. We’re able to present superb
entertainers because our audience of loyal and enthusiastic fans has grown so incredibly fast. We have a committed team of over 100 marvelous volunteers and we’re fortunate to have the unwavering support of key corporate, government and community
sponsors - old and new. All indicators show that CelticFest is becoming part of the
entertainment fabric of Vancouver, and this year we’re building on our strengths to bring
you our best-ever lineup!
Come join us for Celtic culture and kinship – we want YOU to be part of the celebration!

The Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association is thrilled
to help CelticFest Vancouver celebrate its fifth anniversary. It seems like
just yesterday when a group of civic-minded enthusiasts decided to start
this festival in response to cries that Vancouver was ‘no fun city.’ Well,
no more.
This festival has become a tradition that appeals to lovers of Celtic
music, dance, theatre, crafts, sport - and parades. Residents across the
Lower Mainland and beyond pencil this event into their calendars months in advance to
ensure they don’t miss out on the fun.
Enjoy all the festival has to offer.
