Sip, savor and stomp your
way through Grapevine’s 26th
Annual GrapeFest - A Wine
Experience September 13-16.
Whether you’re looking to sip
some delicious Texas, West
Coast or international wines
and premium craft beers, savor
the delicious festival food or
stomp your way to victory at
GrapeStomp, the 26th Annual
GrapeFest is the place to be for
family-friendly festival fun this
September.
GrapeFest, the largest wine
festival in the Southwest United
States, celebrates the best
of Texas wines, West Coast
varietals and international
offerings. This four-day annual
festival also features events such
as the People’s Choice Wine
Tasting Classic, GrapeStomp,
the
Champagne
Terrace,
KidZone presented by Baylor
Regional Medical Center of
Grapevine, Culinary Pavilion,
GrapeFest
Golf
Classic,
GrapeFest Tennis Classic, six
stages of live entertainment and
much more!
Texas is the fifth largest wine
producing state in the United
States. Named for the wild
Mustang grapes that blanketed
the land when settlers first
arrived to the area in 1844,
Grapevine is the headquarters
of the Texas Wine Industry.
Sip at the People’s Choice
Wine Tasting Classic, the
largest consumer judged wine
competition in the United
States. Sample more than 130
wines from more than 38 Texas
wineries and vote on your
favorite. A booklet detailing
the wines being offered and
a ballot are provided to each
guest upon entry. Sessions are
held throughout the four-day
festival. The winners of the
competition will be announced
on Sunday, September 16 at 5
p.m. Tickets are $20 and must
be purchased in advance.

Networking and Beyond
In a recent
discussion
about serving
as the Chairman of the
Board of the
Grapevine Chamber, I had a
business acquaintance express
surprise. He wondered out
loud why I would support an
organization that was there for
just networking.
Anytime you are asked a
question like this, it can make you
pause and quickly review in your
mind what the benefits are - why
you invest time and money, when
both are precious commodities.
For the Grapevine Chamber, the
answer is as varied as the number
of business members involved.
Yes, the Grapevine Chamber
has not just one, but two Business
After Hours Mixers per month.
However, instead of considering
these as “networking events,”

the Chamber considers these
as opportunities to “build your
network.” While there are now
Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and
email, none of these compete
with a one on one - eye to eye
handshake,
complete
with
passing on a business card. For
some business members, this
social setting is how they are
most comfortable in meeting
new people and building those

business relationships. If the evening doesn’t work
for someone’s business schedule, there are morning
and noon networking groups to promote your
products and services.
When a business takes time to look further into
the organization, they will find that a Chamber can
provide you, your business and your employees
with education, legislation and relevant community
information that strengthen not only our individual
businesses but the entire service area. From bringing
in local, state and national speakers to the monthly
luncheons, creating a City / Chamber partnership to
developing future leaders - the Grapevine Chamber
is a conduit to providing a forum that no other
organization provides.
For Baylor, the Chamber has provided an
avenue for our hospital to educate the Grapevine
community on our services and values. We have
had hospital administrators who have participated
in Leadership Grapevine to educate ourselves on
the community around us. The Chamber Board is
actively working throughout the year to find ways
to benefit the companies who see the bigger picture
and who invest in the Chamber, to not just promote
their business, but to work hand in hand with other
companies in our city and region to become a world
class community.

Win Money for Attending
the Luncheon!
Those in attendance for the August luncheon saw
the “Must Be Present to Win” drawing continue
its climb. With The I.C.E. Co., Inc.’s Pam Stewart
not in attendance, the drawing gained another
$50 and now sits at $750. Each month at the
luncheon, the drawing will grow as long as the
person whose name is called is not in attendance.
All you have to do is show up! How easy is that?
All Chamber members’ names are in the drawing,
sponsored by the Gaylord Texan Resort &
Convention Center. Cash in on your membership
investment by attending
the monthly luncheon for
your chance to win!

Three Top Tarrant County

Young Entrepreneurs Academy in Grapevine Chamber
The Young Entrepreneurs Academy
(YEA!) is a year-long program that
teaches middle and high school
students how to start and run their own
REAL businesses. YEA! was developed
at the University of Rochester in 2004
with the support of a grant from the
Kauffman Foundation. The Grapevine
Chamber of Commerce is excited to be introducing YEA! to the
Grapevine Community!
YEA! guides students through the process of starting and
running a legitimate business or social movement over the course
of a full academic year. YEA! has graduated almost 600 students
over the past 7 years, who have started almost 450 businesses
and social movements! YEA! graduates started as students, and
left the program as CEOs of their own companies!
Over the course of the program, students:
• Brainstorm business ideas
• Write a business plan
• Interact with business professionals
• Pitch their business plan to potential “investors”
(think Shark Tank meets the Apprentice meets American Idol)
• Obtain funding
• Legally register their businesses
• Participate in a Trade Show
• Actually launch their own businesses or social movements
Chamber Member Involvement
Through their interactions with business professionals
during the year, YEA! students gain some of the most
important knowledge and experience they need to succeed.
Local professionals volunteer their time and expertise as guest
speakers, mentors, investors, graphic designers, field trip hosts,
business plan reviewers, and much more. The time YEA! students
spend with adults who encourage their futures is invaluable,
and participants often report getting even more out of their
participation than they put in to it!
Sponsorship opportunities include:
•

•

Business Mentor (7 weeks, 1 1/2 hour each)

“This is what we do.” With your help, the Women’s
Division provided prepackaged school supply packs to 900
deserving students, many of whom attended the newly
formed CONNECT group’s Back-to-School Fair that was held
August 11th at Grapevine High School. Many facets of the
community participated and the families were encouraged to
speak with all of them. There were 1056 registered students
and the First United Methodist Church, The FUMC Thrift
Shop and FUMC Seekers Sunday School Class pitched in to
make up the funds to purchase the remaining school supplies,
so all preregistered students were served.
The August luncheon was our annual Style Show featuring
our members, Mothers or Grandmothers and their children
or grandchildren modeling some seasonal outfits from Style
and Grace Boutique. In September we will be hearing from
Dr. Cindy Ryan, Associate Pastor at First United Methodist
Church, Grapevine, about having a servant’s heart: passion for
service vs. apathy; a subject close to our hearts.
Please feel welcome to come visit our club at any of our
meetings. They are held on the third Tuesday of the month
at 11:45 am at Stacy Furniture 3rd Floor Community Room,
1900 South Main Street, Grapevine, TX 76051. In order to
RSVP, please send an email to [email protected]. Our
October meeting will be an exception and will be an evening
meeting. We will be holding our annual Women’s Division
Member Chili Cook Off at Nash Farm.
