DELHI HORIZONS 2003 ANNUAL REPORT Dear Friends: The past year has been filled with many highlights at SUNY Delhi. Enrollment growth, state and national honors for faculty and staff, groundbreaking for construction of new facilities, and academic, athletic and community service awards for students headline the impressive list of accomplishments. These achievements have put SUNY Delhi in the limelight and heightened the college’s reputation. They have also fostered great pride among the Delhi family, which includes the alumni and friends who have given generously to support student scholarships and other special activities at the college. The positive news is tempered to some degree by New York State’s economic climate. State tax dollar support for SUNY Delhi has plummeted from 57 percent to 36 percent of the college’s operating budget over the last three years. This has created tremendous challenges and made private support for the college more important than ever. It also makes the achievements outlined in this Annual Report even more impressive. Making progress on the eight institutional goals that serve as the focus for the Annual Report is one of the reasons SUNY Delhi has continued to move forward. The number one factor is our faculty and staff. Their commitment to helping students succeed is extraordinary, and they have prepared our students well for the future. You are an important part of the Delhi success story as well. Your support allows SUNY Delhi to provide students with a college education that not only prepares them for the working world, but also helps inspire them to be good citizens. Sincerely, Candace S. A drop in state tax dollar support for SUNY Delhi from 57 percent of the college’s budget in 2000 to 36 percent today has made fundraising an absolute necessity to ensure a quality educational experience for students. The depth of activities, with the creation of a new grant writer position, illustrates the college-wide emphasis on securing additional resources. Those efforts are already beginning to pay dividends with the college earning federal, state and private grants for special programs and new facilities. The generosity of alumni and friends is helping fund vital programs and services for students, faculty and staff as well. The college is also becoming entrepreneurial with All-American Justin Wood finished in second place at the NJCAA Cross-Country Championship, held at the Delhi College Golf Course. both its fundraising and its approach to generating additional resources for the college.
