Financial Assistance The Skaneateles YMCA welcomes all who wish to participate and believes that no one should be denied access to the Y based on their ability to pay. Through our scholarship program, the Skaneateles Y provides financial assistance to youth, adults, families and seniors based on individual needs and circumstances. Financial subsidy applications and evaluations are handled in a fair and consistent manner. The process is confidential. Membership cards are not transferable. There is a $5 card replacement fee. Program Fees: Nonmembers who pay program fees may apply the difference between member rate and nonmember rate toward a membership within 30 days from the start of the program. Refund Policy:: Program credit or refunds are issued when a class is cancelled. When events beyond our control cause a cancellation, no refund or credit is given. Membership dues paid in full are not refundable or transferable. Insurance: The Y does not carry individual accident insurance for participants.. Individuals participate at their own risk. Day Passes: The fee for a daily guest pass is $10.00. This fee may be applied toward a membership within 30 days. Members with Disabilities: May bring an individual with them for assistance at no additional cost Valuables: DO NOT leave cash or jewelry in your locker. Please bring your own lock for your day locker. We also have locks available for rent by the day for $1 at our member services desk. Smoking is not permitted on Y grounds. Just follow these few simple steps: 1. Join and maintain a current membership at the Skaneateles YMCA. 2. When visiting other participating YMCA’s for the first time, simply show your membership card at the front desk. 3. Complete the membership visiting guest form. NOTE: 1. You must maintain a current membership at your home Y to be eligible for this program. Y’s will regularly verify that your home membership is current. 2. Membership does not include facility members discounts on programs. 3. You may register for programs at participating Y’s at the general public rate. 4. Other YMCA’s may be accessible to you through the Y- USA’s Y-Away program. Ask for details at any location. Our membership card provides you access to a wide variety of member amenities at each location, including strength training equipment, cardio machines, swimming pools, fitness classes and ice rinks. Fee: Y-members $195 Public $215 Programs Musical Theater and Dance Ages 8-12years March 1—April 19 Thursdays, 4:30-5:30pm Join instructor Sue Benjamin for a class that combines musical theater and dance! Children learn how to project their performances to the audience through the art of choreography and dance. Children will gain confidence by performing roles that are based on current musical theatre performances. Fees: Y-Members $70 General Public: $90 Arts Programming We are currently putting the finishing touches on some exciting new arts Classes for our youth members! Babysitter Training Ages 11-15years 4 sessions available: January16, 9am-2pm February, 21 &22 March16, 9am-2pm June 8, 9am-2pm This five hour course provides participants with the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to care for children in a safe and responsible manner. Class participants will be given exposure to CPR and First aid. There will also be a visit from an emergency service professional to discuss personal safety. Fees: Y-Members: $35 General Public: $55 Babysitter Basics Learn how to be a mother’s helper! Ages 9-10 years April 11, 12-2pm This 3 hour course which provides participants with the skills necessary to help care for children as a “Mother’s helper”. Mothers helpers are not full fledged babysitters, but they do care for children and keep them entertained while the parents are busy elsewhere in the house. Fees: Y-Members: $25 General Public: $35 Ballet for Children Ages 5-8 years January 7– February 18 Saturdays, 11:15am-12:15pm This is a technique class in which the instructor, Ginny Crimmens, will help the dancers make the mind body connection. Participants will learn the basic skills needed to become a performer! Fees: Y-members: $70 General Public: $ 90 School’s Out February and April Break K-12 years February 20,21,22,23,24 April 12,14,15,16,17 6:30am—6:00pm Safe, affordable, quality child care for youngsters during the hours when there may be no adult supervision in the home. Children have the opportunity to explore, create, share experiences, make new friends and have hours of fun! Bring swimsuits and towels, clothing appropriate for messy, active indoor and outdoor play. Snacks provided, please bring a lunch. This is a NYS licensed program. Pre registration required! Fees: Y-Members: $30 per day General Public: $40 per day Nature Trail Historical Hike Coming this spring … Charlie Major will conduct a guided hike along the Skaneateles Creek. He will provide an in-depth history on the former water powered industries that once thrived along Skaneateles Creek. Hear about the former Skaneateles Short Line Rail Road that once made stops along the way. Watch for dates! Classes focus on age appropriate skills, large motor development, songs, games and crafts. There will be fun, fitness and emphasis on kindergarten readiness in a nurturing and safe environment! Our dynamic and caring teachers bring their passion for working with young children to our programs. We believe children learn best through play, and we strive to offer varied activities on a daily basis, including enrichment such as learn to swim, learn to skate and art. Teachers are trained in CPR, first aid and child abuse prevention. Activities are based on fun themes that will engage, encourage and excite kids. There will be indoor and outdoor (weather permitting) activities. Come ready for an active day! Fee: Y-Members $75 General Public: $100 Happy Feet Ages 4-6years Mondays, 9-11:30am 3 sessions available. January 2-February 13 February 27-April 9 April 23—June 11 Join Instructor Madeline Raymond for an active and engaging 7- week program featuring music, movement, learn to skate, and free swim play. Class meets one day per week. Fee: Y-Members $105 per session General Public $125 per session Little Lakers Activity Club Age 4-6years January 2-February 13 11:45am-2:45pm Kindergarten children can ride the bus from Waterman after school. Younger children may be dropped off. The instructor will meet the children and then have lunch! After lunch, children will be off to a fun, supervised activity! Children will have one class of the following each week: learn to skate, learn to swim, yoga, music, art, movement and crafts! Available in 3-day a week or 5-day a week sessions. Seven weeks of fun! Fees: Y-Members 3-day: $125 5-day: $165 General Public 3-day $145 5-day: $185 Aquatics The Mary H Soderberg Aquatics Center Is comprised of multiple bodies of water. The competition pool is 25yards long and boasts 8 lanes. swim. We also have a zero entry leisure pool, plunge pool of our twisty slide and a 10 person spa! Swim Lessons Parent and Child ( 6months to 3 years) Parents work with child on water adjustment, trying new skills and how to appropriately support the child in the water. Mommy & 3 (ages 33-4) Stepping stone between Parent & Child and Preschool levels. Parent is in the water with their swimmer and the instructor learning basic water skills. Preschool Pike (ages 44-5) Students with little or no experience swimming. May be timid and may or may not put their face in the water. Preschool Eel (ages 4 to 5) Students will put their face in the water and are ready for independent swimming. Beginner Polliwog (ages 5+) For the student with no experience swimming or for the very timid swimmer who is not comfortable putting their face in the water Polliwog (ages 5+) This class is for students who will put their face in the water and will float on their front and back and paddle with their arms and legs with assistance from the instructor. Also for the student that is just starting to swim independently. Guppy (ages 5+) This class is for students who swim front crawl with their face in the water for 10 yards and swim on their back for at least 10 yards without assistance. Minnow 1 (ages 5+) This class is for swimmers who are comfortable in the deep end and able to swim 25 yards of front crawl with rotary breathing and 15 yards of elementary backstroke and 15 yards of back crawl without stopping. This class is taught in the 25 yard competition pool. Minnow 2 (ages 5+) To sign up for this class you should be able to swim 25 yards each of front crawl and elementary backstroke and 15 yards each of breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly. You must be at least 18 years old to participate and capable of swimming a minimum of 2,000 yards, with advanced swimmers covering 3,500 yards or more. The yardage is Spring Session April 23-June 15 broken up into different sets with M,W,F 5:30-7am rest intervals in between. This program is beneficial for tri-athletes, former competitive swimmers, former collegiate swimmers as well as fitness swimmers. A coach is present and practices are geared toward a variety of different levels and abilities. Two classes available. This course allows for partial weight bearing exercises that protect your joints while allowing efficient calorie burning. Water Fit Increase your mobility and balance as well as toning your body with low impact exercise. Great for anyone with arthritis. Known as the Zumba "pool party ! Integrating the Zumba formula and philosophy with traditional aqua fitness disciplines, Aqua Zumba blends it all together into a safe, challenging, waterbased workout that’s cardioconditioning, body-toning, and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief. In order to participate in this class, you must pass a preliminary swim test which includes the following: A 550 yard swim which must include 200 yards of front crawl with rhythmic breathing, 200 yards breaststroke and 150 yards of front crawl or backstroke. Participants must be 15 years old and also be able to dive to a depth of 9-13 feet, retrieve a10 lb weight and swim 20 yards on their back holding the weight. American Red Cross - WSI Water Safety Instructor (Swim Instructor) Winter Session: January 9—March 12, 2012 Monday, 6-9:00pm Spring Session: May 21-25, 8:30am– 4pm Become certified to teach American Red Cross swimming and Water Safety courses. You must be at least 16 years old and pass a pre-test. Fee: $245 SCUBA The YMCA/SSI SCUBA course consists of 11/2 hours in both the classroom and pool each evening, plus four open-water dives. Certified instructor Henry MacDonald brings extensive knowledge and certification at all levels of SCUBA diving. 6-week classes .
