A MAD WORLD MY MASTERS CALAMITY JANE AVENUE Q THE HISTORY BOYS What’s On Summer 2015 WELCOME TO OUR SUMMER SEASON... LET’S MAKE A DATE ... at Darlington Civic Theatre. APRIL Join us this season as we journey from 1950s Soho to the black hills of Dakota, from the golden age of Hollywood to Groovy Greece! Join us for the trip of a lifetime, with no passport required! We’re excited to welcome the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of rollicking Jacobean comedy A Mad World My Masters. Complete with live band and jazz singer, this is one production you won’t want to miss. Other highlights include Alan Bennett’s The History Boys - recently voted as the nation’s favourite play and a brand new tour of Avenue Q, a musical from a team whose credentials include the songs from Disney’s Frozen. Bringing a touch of Hollywood glamour is a fresh and vibrant production of Calamity Jane as well as The Songbook of Judy Garland starring Judy’s own daughter Lorna Luft, direct from the USA. Along with a fantastic selection of music and comedy and one of my personal favourites, Voca People, amazing vocal sounds combine for an evening of total excitement. For our family audiences we have Sing-a-long-a Frozen, then Ministry of Science drop in to take us on a journey of discovery and we are delighted to welcome back The Birmingham Stage Company with Horrible Histories - Groovy Greeks and Incredible Invaders featuring 3D. Hopefully it will be all aboard for a classic thriller double-bill this summer with talking Scarlet’s The Ghost Train and Sherlock Holmes & the Ripper Murders. 8 4 9 DATE PAGE Jasper Carrott’s Stand Up & Rock with The Bev Bevan Band 2 17 4 My Mountain Life 3 17 Whitney - Queen of The Night 4 18 The Hollies 10 5 Pasha Kovalev Life Through Dance 11 5 A Mad World My Masters 14-18 6/7 Hairspray Darlington OS 22-2 May 8 MAY DATE PAGE I look forward to welcoming you soon, Arnold’s Big Adventure 8&9 9 10 9 Arts Showcase 5 18 Ministry of Science Live 6 19 Regional Youth Theatre Festival 7 19 Avenue Q 9-13 20/21 The History Boys 16-20 22/23 RGS Callum Roberts 19 24 The Proclaimers 21 24 An Evening of Dirty Dancing Horrible Histories 23 24 24-28 25 30-4 July 26 11 40 12-16 10/11 18 12 JULY DATE PAGE 12 Sherlock Holmes & the Ripper Murders 7-11 27 12 28 An Intimate Evening with Russell Watson 20 The Ghost Train Godspell in Concert 21-23 13 Big Red Bath Balletboyz theTalent 26 14 ArtsSpark Showcase 14 28 20-22 29 Sex in Suburbia 27 15 The Songbook of Judy Garland The Illegal Eagles 28 16 Joan Armatrading 23 30 Rhythm of the Dance 24 30 40 ABBA Mania 25 30 16 Last Night at the Proms 27 31 29 & 30 31 Sing-a-long-a Frozen Friends reception Let’s Hang On Calamity Jane Tiffany School of Dance Alice in Wonderland www.twitter.com/DarloCivic JUNE Vane Women Voca People Lynda Winstanley Director Some of our performances take place in Central Hall at the Dolphin Centre. TOM BUTCHER SOPHIE POWLES Don’t miss Arnold Ridley’s classic comedy thriller about a group of travellers – including a newlywed couple, an estranged couple, a self-indulgent young dandy and an elderly spinster with a parrot – are stranded in the waiting room of an isolated railway station on a dark and stormy night. Each reacts with various degrees of credulity to the station master’s warning of death to anyone who sets eyes on the ghostly train that haunts the line. Arnold Ridley’s inspiration for The Ghost Train came after becoming stranded overnight at Mangotsfield Station in Bristol, now a disused station on the Midland Railway main line. He is probably best known for playing Private Godfrey in the BBC comedy Dad’s Army. DAVID JANSON JUDY BUXTON 26 Starring Neil Roberts (Holby, Family Affairs, Coronation Street, Charmed, Beverly Hills 90210), George Telfer as Dr Watson (Emmerdale) and Samuel Clemens (RSC), the son of the author Brian Clemens as Sherlock Holmes. The grisly serial killings of prostitutes and vulnerable women in Victorian Whitechapel, dubbed by the popular press as the work of 'Jack the Ripper' are the talk of London, and from deep within the smog-ridden slums, yet another piercing shriek is heard. Sherlock Holmes and Dr John H Watson are drawn into one of the darkest plots ever to shake the foundations of England. There are freemasons, conspiracies and plots at the highest level of the establishment. But for Holmes, there is a uniquely personal element to this new and terrifying case.
