UNIVERSITY OF SAN FRANCISCO BASEBALL A look into the increasing success of the USF Baseball Program UNIVERSITY OF SAN FRANCISCO MEN’S BASEBALL UNIVERSITY OF SAN FRANCISCO MEN’S BASEBALL PLAYER DEVELOPMENT PLAYER DEVELOPMENT MAJOR LEAGUE DRAFT Since the beginning of the Nino Giarratano era at USF the Dons have had success in the draft and at every level of professional baseball. Since Giarratano arrived on the Hilltop in 1999 he has seen 38 players selected in the Major League Baseball draft (not including two players who were selected twice while at USF) by 20 different teams. First round picks include left-handed pitchers Aaron Poreda in 2007 and Evan Fredrickson in 2008. USF has also seen three of the players drafted under Coach Giarratano make it to the big leagues in Scott Cousins (currently on the Florida Marlins 40-Man roster) Aaron Poreda (Chicago White Sox and San Diego Padres), and Jesse Foppert (San Francisco Giants).
