Annual Report Fiscal Year 2015
“Another year for us to be grateful
for every member of your team and
their dedication to helping victims
and their families heal.”
— NOVA supporter
“In my darkest hours
NOVA was there to show
me that I wasn’t alone
or crazy, and that shook
the very foundations of
my existence. It changed
my life and I will never
forget the things that I’ve
learned here…so much that
I always think of NOVA
when I know someone is
in trouble now.”

Fiscal Year 2015 Highlights
With funding from The Pew Charitable Trusts, the Norman
Raab Foundation, and Bucks County Children & Youth Social
Services, NOVA developed the Trauma Support Program to
provide counseling to children and their family members who
have experienced child abuse. The program is unique because
counseling is provided in the child’s home and is available to
both the child and their non-offending caregivers. In FY 2015,
the NOVA licensed counselors provided services to 182 children
and caregivers, utilizing an evidence based form of therapy
called Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
In FY 2015, NOVA developed the Centralized SANE Program
with funding from the Office of Violence Against Women’s
Encourage Arrest Grant and the STOP Violence Against Women
grant program. Through this effort, NOVA will contract with
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners to provide forensic rape exams
to rape victims at three of the county’s six hospitals. In 2016,
NOVA hopes to expand the program to provide rape exam
options to sexual assault victims at all of the hospitals in
Bucks County.
Using a state approved training curriculum and supported
by a $10,000 grant from Foundations Community Partnership,
NOVA provided 86 trainings to 4,014 adults. Research on
this training has been shown to increase safety, security and
protection for children and youth (infants through young adults),
and families. Mandated reporters include such professionals as
teachers, social workers, guidance counselors and coaches and
volunteers working with children.

EMPOWERING SURVIVORS, PROMOTING CRIME VICTIM RIGHTS, AND CREATING SAFER COMMUNITIES IN BUCKS COUNTY SINCE 1974
Our Volunteers
Without volunteers, NOVA could not accomplish all that
it does for victims and the community. In FY 2015, 138
volunteers gave 18,073 hours to NOVA — the equivalent of
more than 9 full-time staff positions to answer the hotline,
provide support at emergency rooms and legal proceedings
and work at the thrift shop.
Ray Kerr is recognized as NOVA’s Volunteer of the Year at the annual
Central Bucks YMCA Volunteer event. Ray is flanked by Keith Kirkner,
Director of Finance and Administration and Julie Dugery, NOVA’s
Volunteer and Community Outreach Coordinator.
