Purchased in 1973 by Dean Richard Moy, SIU School of Medicine. Fink is best known for his brilliantlydetailed
drawings and etchings. Born 1921 in Rhode Island, died 2006 in Maine, a prolific artist and former SIU Carbondale
administrator and art professor. Studied and taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, MFA from Yale, his works are
in collections of 19 museums around the country, and some appear in auction houses today. A good art investment.

creations alike. He allows the design of the wood to guide him in the creation of the furniture. The figured oak slab on
this table comes from a very large tree in the Folse back yard.

ceramics, wood furniture, and painting since his retirement in 2000 from almost 30 years as Chairman of Surgery at SIU
School of Medicine. Oriental Classical Shapes are often the inspiration for his ceramics. The artist never knows until he
opens the kiln just exactly what the crystals will look like after firing with Crystalline Glaze. There are many elements
that affect the outcome. This vase is a lovely example of snowflake design, trimmed with a subtle blue-purple.

Chinese Red Vessel, 9" Egg Vase by Ben Owen III
Chinese Red Vessel, 9" Egg Vase, by Ben Owen, III; third generation potter of the well-known potters' village of
Seagrove, North Carolina. Chinese Red has become one of Ben III's signature glazes over the past 25 years. His father
worked on the red glaze, his grandfather worked on the Chinese shapes, and Ben III has perfected the line of Chinese
Red Vessels. So much so that in 2007, Ben III was commissioned by the Governor of North Carolina to create a series
of Chinese Red Pots to honor Chinese officials on a special ambassadorial tour, and he was then invited to tour the
Chinese pottery villages where the first Chinese Red may have been used. Each time the Ben Owen kiln is opened, with a
new load of Chinese Red pots, people stand in line and take a number, to try to purchase one of the treasured pieces.
Marty Sumner has brought one back from Seagrove to donate for Denim & Diamonds. How fortunate the buyer will be.

Carved House Wrens Under Glass Dome by Wm DeSelms
WilliamDeSelms carves tiny native and exotic birds out of polymer clay, then uses them to make molds from silicone
rubber. The final casting is done with a mixture of resin and tiny glass particles. DeSelms says that the birds his dad and
grandpa would bring home from hunting were the most beautiful things he had ever seen, and he started making birds at
the tender age of seven. His Pheasantry Studio in Roseville, Illinois is filled with dozens of African finches, an inspiration
to DeSelms as he carves the lifelike birds. This pair of house wrens is labeled #14 and was carved in 1987.

1900's Handmade Log Cabin Quilt
Early 1900's Log Cabin Quilt handmade in a Log Cabin. This quilt is donated by the family of Lorenzo Richard Morris,
who died of lung cancer in January of this year. This beautiful quilt has remained in a cedar chest and never used since it
was lovingly made of dress scraps and flour sacks by Richard's Aunt Dolly and Aunt Rebecca, who lived in a log cabin
with no electricity or running water in the hills of Missouri in the early 1900's.

Antique Marbles - The Hottest New Collectible
Two books on the history, identification and pricing of antique marbles included, by authors Robert Block & Everett
Grist. This old half-pint jar from the St. Louis Dairy Company contains 44 marbles from the 1920's and early 30's,
donated by Margie Higgason, whose husband was the little boy playing with them long ago. Marbles have been made
since 1759, some by hand, some by machine in later years. Marbles in this bottle already identified vary in value from 50
cents each to $600, and possibly more, depending on size, condition, and rarity. Some marbles go for thousands of
dollars. Tucked inside the Grist Book will be a list of those already identified, with page numbers. It will be up to the
buyer to find them and identify the others. The value could be great. Antique marbles are sold and traded online, as well
as at auctions and conventions. A new excuse to browse the antique shops and flea markets, or simply enjoy fingering
the marbles and admiring their beauty and intricacy, and reminiscing about a time long past. Or you could always play
"Marbles"!

Nemadji Indian Pottery Vase
This Nemadji Vase is circa 1973, made of white Kansas Clay. Nemadji Indian Pottery Vase, 8 1/2" tall, plus book
entitled "The Myth and Magic of Nemadji "Indian" Pottery" by Michelle B. Lee. Nemadji pottery has been produced in
Minnesota's Arrowhead Region since 1923. Nemadji Tile first graced the floors of America's most wealthy, then the less
expensive pottery was produced as a tourist item during the Great Depression, and was sold as Indian Pottery. While
never produced by Indians, the pottery was reminiscent of ancient indian pottery, hence the name. The unique painting
was developed in 1929. Production of Nemadji ended in 2002. It is now a collector's item.

Beautiful Handmade Antique Quilt with Cross Stitch Embroidery, over 100 years old. Made by Lucille Crossman of
Xenia, Illinois and left to her grandson, Bill Higgason of Springfield. Lucille was born in 1875 and died at the age of 95.
This exquisitely stitched quilt was generously donated to Denim and Diamonds by Margie Higgason in loving memory of
her husband, Bill Higgason, who died of cancer seven years ago.
