at 7:30pm.
As it says in the title, it will be amazing…!
Football Fixture
The first ever friendly football match against federation school Cornfield ended in a
4 - 2 defeat. The Oak Grove College team started well and Jack Ward put the team
1 - 0 up just before half time. The boys came out for the second half brimming with
confidence. However, Cornfield scored 4 great long distance goals to take the win.
New Age Kurling Competition
Last Wednesday ten students competed against other
local schools in a New Age Kurling competition. There
were some closely fought games and all students showed
good sportsmanship. Craig Hannon did a fantastic job
coaching George Hutchinson who grew in confidence and
went on to win three of his games. Our top team with
Danny Fairburn and Luke Cooper finished fifth.

This week we received a personal thank you
from Link To Hope for our Christmas shoe
box donation to some of the poorest people
in Eastern Europe. Class CA contributed 28
boxes out of a massive 34,597 that were
collected at the depot in Worthing, coming
from all over the UK. Once again, a big thank
you to everyone who contributed by either
sending in items for the boxes or packing up
a whole box themselves. We hope to support
this charity again in November...so get
collecting items now! Please check out the
website for further details http://
linktohope.co.uk/shoebox-appeal. Thank you!
Bad Weather Procedures
As the winter brings the colder weather please
ensure that you listen to the local radio (Heart
FM, Splash FM & Spirit FM) where news of school
closures due to snowfall will be broadcasted.
Should you have concerns about whether school
will be open please check the school’s website
www.oakgrovecollege.org.uk which will be updated
by 7:00am on each morning of possible closure.
We will also send a text to parents – please
make sure we have your most up to date mobile
number.
If county transport is not running do not bring
your child into school unless you are prepared to
collect them too.
Australia Day celebrated Koa style
Koa family group celebrated Australia Day on 26th January. Students participated in “I'm a
celebrity” style activities including searching for stars in different sensory materials and
stroking a real live snake! In addition they made didgeridoos, boomerangs and pavlova. A
great time was had by all!
Red Nose Day—Friday 13 March
To raise money for Comic Relief we will be selling Red Noses
in school from Monday 9th March. These will cost £1 and
come as a lucky dip of 1 of 9 designs. All money raised goes
to help transform the lives of millions of people, both at
home in the UK and across Africa.
In addition to celebrate and fundraise on Red Nose Day we will be holding a variety of activities at school including a Funny Face Photo Competition and a quiz. On Friday 13th March with
a donation of £1, students can wear red clothes, a funny hat or create a crazy hairstyle.
Christmas Sumdog Competition
Congratulations to all of our Christmas Sumdog Competition participants. Our overall winner was John
Corr who answered an amazing 10,000+ questions and for his efforts received a £10 Amazon gift
voucher. Our runners up were Taylah Fothergill, Kyle Hobson, James Halse, Zhane Hartley and Charmaine Moulding-Hughes who each received a £5 Amazon voucher each. Our winners were presented
their prizes by Phillip and some of our governors. It was brilliant to see the enthusiasm for our first
Christmas competition. Look out for our next competition at Easter!
Milk in School
All Free School Meals (FSM) children are now entitled to a glass/carton of free milk during the school
day. This is being made available at lunchtimes with lunch. If your child is not entitled to FSM and
would like them to have milk at lunchtime there is a small charge of 25p per glass. We will be writing
to all parents shortly to ask if they would like their child to receive milk.
Contact with parents by email
From March 2015 the school will be using email as a means to make contact with parents for all
newsletters and correspondence.
If you would like us to email you newsletters and general letters please ensure that you advise us
of your email address. A letter will be sent home shortly requesting this information.
Support from The Wooden Spoon
Oak Grove College has just opened a soft play room for their students. This excellent addition to our facilities was made possible by
the generosity and support of The Wooden Spoon Charity. The full
cost of equipping the room was met by the charity. This will enable
students with complex learning needs to have more sensory learning
experiences and an additional environment in which to play.
This additional to our provision to ensure that the holistic needs of
all our student are met is much appreciated and Phillip Potter,
Headteacher, spoke at the opening about the need for all in the community to work together to promote the learning and holistic development needs of those with the most complex learning needs while
thanking the Wooden Spoon Charity for their great contribution to the college.
“We are immensely grateful to The Wooden Spoon Charity and the soft play room will make an immediate impact on the quality of what we provide to our students”.
Wellington Boots
If you have any wellington
boots that are no longer
needed, and you would like to
donate them to OGC for the
students to use. Please leave
them at reception. We are
particularly looking for the
smaller sizes. Thank you for
your support.
