Showcase your girl power during an exclusive pre-game event by trying your hand at a Homerun Derby, taking the Texas Ranger Girl Scout fitness challenge, and making the world a better place as a Peanut Butter Buddy. This event is sure to start your Girl Scout year off in the WIN column. Peanut Butter Buddy Service Patch August and September Cost: Free Be a Peanut Butter Buddy this fall! Through this service patch program Girl Scouts explore what it takes to keep their bodies fueled and lend a helping hand to those struggling to do the same. Complete the steps to learn all about food science nutrition and to help others meet their nutritional needs. OCTOBER Goodwill Good Turn Service Patch 10 October 1-31 Cost: Free The Good Turn Project is a collaborative service opportunity with the local Goodwill Industries of Dallas, Northeast Texas and East Texas, and support from GSNETX, to help individuals with disadvantages by collecting usable items for Goodwill to sell. Money from these sales will fund job training, helping individuals to become independent. Girls who collect at least two 7-10 gallon bags of items and complete and submit the report form will receive a patch. Programs in a Box We want to make your troop experience as easy as possible! We're excited to offer Programs in a Box at NO COST to help you create fun, educational, memorable troop actitivites for your Girl Scouts. GSNETX’s Volunteer and Organizational Learning Department partners with the amazing Trefoil Guild of Northeast Texas to make this happen annually. This workshop has an option to certify adults in both TR301: GSNETX Camping & and TR302: On the Road Camping. Topics included are: Fire building & safety, health & sanitation, packing & gear, weather issues, meal planning & food preparation, knife safety, and tents. NOTE: Adults who wish to receive certification are required to also attend an event pre-meeting on October 5 from 6:30-10 pm at JoAnn Fogg Service Center Teddy Bear Clinic October 22 Methodist Richardson Medical Center Cost: Free Earned Awards: Teddy Bear Clinic Patch, Daisy “Gloria” petal, Brownie First Aid Sometimes even Teddy Bears don’t feel well. Grab your favorite stuffed animal for an exclusive checkup at Methodist Richardson Medical Center! Doctors, nurses, and therapists will set up a special hospital clinic for you and your bear. Teddy bear clinics are a great way for Girl Scouts to explore medicine in a fun filled way! Minimum ratio of 1 adult per 2 girls. This is a great “Mom and Me” activity! Tyler Rose Festival Oct 14 & 15 Tyler, TX Cost: Free Awards Earned: East Texas Patch (1 of 4) A Texas tradition since 1933, Girl Scouts can come and smell the roses (literally!) at the Tyler Rose Festival. Come see the coronation of the Rose Queen, or watch the Rose Parade! From garden tours to floral shows or arts and crafts, there is plenty to do and see at this fabulous East Texas festival! 11 11 Share the Warmth Service Patch November 1-30 Cost: Free GSNETX can give back through Sleep Experts’ Share the Warmth Blanket Drive. Girls are asked to collect and drop off new or gently used blankets to any of Sleep Experts’ 40 North Texas locations, the GSNETX Paris Service Center, or GSNETX East Texas Regional Center. Each girl who collects blankets will be eligible for a free patch. DECEMBER Silver Lining Service Patch December 1-31 Cost: Free The Silver Lining Patch Program connects girls with residents of nursing homes, retirement communities, assisted living, and adult day care facilities to improve their quality of life through acts of kindness and in-person visits. JANUARY Heart Health Service Patch January and February Cost: Free How much do you really know about heart health? Enough to save a life? Join us in spreading the word about Heart Health. The meeting is followed by the adult recognition luncheon where volunteers, staff, and community partners are recognized for their contributions to support girls across Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas. MAY, JUNE, JULY Fun for He & Me at Camp Rocky Point May 12-14, 2017 Camp Rocky Point Cost: $50 per person Gear up for a weekend of fun at the lake with your dad, grandfather, uncle or other favorite male. Sleep in a platform tent and participate in some of your favorite camp activities during the weekend. Meals are provided Saturday breakfast thru Sunday breakfast. Summer Service Patch Program May, June, July Continue your Girl Scout experience through the summer by giving back to your community! More information will be available on this free service patch in early spring. Do you know how weather affects their navigation? Come learn all this and more at the Great Texas Balloon Race! Honor Guard meets regularly the fourth Sunday of each month at Southern Sector Service Center. Honor Guard is a group of girls interested in flags, flag ceremonies, and patriotism! Training and development is based upon continual understanding and respect for the American, Texas, Girl Scouts, and WAGGGS flag. Through a year-long program, girls will learn about river ecosystems, conduct scientific experiments, and explore the wildlife in and around aquatic ecosystems. The scientific data collected will support academic research, inform policy, and serve as a possible early warning system for water quality events across Texas. Wat-er you waiting for? Tejas Riders Contact: Shelby Woolly Phone: 903.221.3014 Email: [email protected] Dates: Application March 1 -31 Practices: 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month Location: Camp Bette Perot The Tejas Riders are an award-winning, elite group of Girl Scouts who have advanced equestrian skills. They represent the council at exciting events like the Mesquite Rodeo and act as guides for younger Girl Scouts. The Tejas Riders also give countless hours of service to the equestrian program at Camp Bette Perot, while also building leadership skills. The girls must be currently registered and be 12 years of age by September 1. Transportation to and from all events is the responsibility of the girl’s parent or guardian. THIS IS NOT A TROOP ACTIVITY. There is no fee for this program, but does entail commitment from the girl and her parents/guardian. Share the Warmth with families in the Dallas Area as they transition through their time of difficulty. The good news is we can help: Donate a snuggly, new blanket during the month of November to any of the Sleep Experts’ 45 locations and it will be given to a family, providing warmth and security. Each girl who collects blankets will be eligible for a free patch, while supplies last. 16 GSNETX Activities and Events SEPTEMBER FIRST Robotic Teams Info Meeting Thursday September 1, 2016 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. JoAnn Fogg Service Center Brownie Level Cost: Free GSNETX Program Team is looking for Brownie troops to pilot a new robotics program through the FIRST LEGO League. FIRST League is an organization where students of all ages form teams and take on different robotic challenges using Legos and different robotic kits. Teams would meet on a weekly basis, building and brainstorming their robotic challenge. Teams require two adult leaders and usually have 2 to 6 girls per team.
